The SW20 is more powerful if you go for a turbo variant, but more expensive. A naturally aspirated SW20 would be about as powerful as a ZZW30, which never came in a supercharged/turbocharged varient, but heavier and probably more expensive, also with more miles.

The SW20 is a fun car, but if you are bad at driving or a beginner, stay away. I had one as my first car and I nearly died many times. If you are willing to spend a bit of money putting in a new engine yourself, get a ZZW30 and swap the engine with a 2ZZ-GE. The 1ZZ-FE that comes with the ZZW30 is prone to oil burning and doesn't produce much power. Despite that, the ZZW30 feels amazing to drive, and it can be tracked stock.

However, the SW20 looks nicer and has a larger aftermarket in my experience.

I had a BMW before and they don't last up here in the north. Rockers from that era only seem to last 1-2 winters before completely rotting out.

A clean SW20 that has a turbo is very hard to find for a reasonable price. Especially one made after 1993. An SW20 that has a hard top, turbo, manual tranny, low miles, was made after '93, and in good condition is like finding a unicorn.

ZZW30s are usually stock, have low miles, and are clean as fuck. They are usually around 5k too. I'd say your best option is a ZZW30.
