Ausfag, 80 UHF channels with duplex repeaters in some areas. 40 is highway channel in most areas, 38 and 39 usually for vehicle to vehicle coms with 5 for emergency.
a lot of off-road clubs make them mandatory since they're the best method of comms for multitasking
I had one in my F150 for a while, it was pretty cool but a bit boring if no one is on

Get an antenna.
I bought one last weekend at a flea market. It's a standard amplitude modulated 40 channel CB radio in the 11 meter band. I'm an electrical engineer so I'm going to be fucking around with it as a mobile rig and a base station. I already love playing with it. I think I just found a new hobby.

No skip with VHF/UHF though. Which can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending upon how you use it.
hitler did nothing wrong, over.

U.S. is channel 9 for help, 19 is the party line.

Do not turn it on without an antennae, it can damage the unit.
CB's are not plug&play. They need to be tuned to the antennae/vehicle.
Higher end models have an "swr" mode for tuning- if you don't have a knob for that then you need another device to plkug in to tune the antennae.
I used to be near the Mexican border, shit sucked with beaners using linear amplifiers and stepping over 5 channels +/-
