drz's are way too expensive for what they are. They're like the tacoma of the motorcycle world.

Can get a KLR for like 1/3 the price in similar condition and while it won't be as good offroading due to the weight, it will still be capable for trails and way better for road.

just look into a bunch of bikes beyond DRZ's and KLR's. There's like 25 good dual sports to choose from and one of them will fit the needs you want.

Things like bigger fuel tanks, higher seats, rakes, etc. that make a bike good on road make it worse off road and vice versa, it's always going to be a trade off.

Take them for a test drive if you can, best way you can figure it out.

They're pretty much all at oil change every 3k and valves every 7500. Smaller ones will be more stressed on the highway.

If I was doing a decent amount of highway commuting, I would never get a DRZ400 but if that's really what you want to do then feel free.

The GS500 is objectively the best beginner bike.

It's a mid-sized 4stroke twin cylinder bike, so it drinks less than 6 liters per 100 km.

302s aren't great truck engines (300 six is probably best truck and industrial engine Ford ever made) but they do OK and if the price was right might as well use it. Suggest building for torque, not over a 600 CFM carb and no open plenum manifold cuz u want dat torque. No high compression either. Low is nice for burning modern shitgas and not detonating when lugging up hills or with load.

Going kevlar jean shopping tomorrow. Maybe even get a new jacket. Lost a fair bit of weight and shit doesn't fit right anymore.

I don't think I like the digital dash. The speedo is slow to update, but I like the green/blue back light. I prefer a mechanical speedo and tach but I can see those not working well with a bike like this just because of how fast the engine revs.
