Is double clutching a meme?
I saw a video on it today. Tried it out. Hard to get the hang of it. But when I do get it right, shifting is a lot more smoother especially in the upper revs.
Anyone here double shift?

I do mainly for 2nd 3rd cuz those are my most likely to fail gears on mu car
>>16882111
can't you just rev match while the clutch is pressed in?

I think it's got something to do with changing the speed of the input shaft to save your synchros. Considering synchros are a wear part anyway, it's basically a meme

yeah.
But its fun.
>>16882865
this. it's a meme, but as the other posted said, it's quite satisfying when you have all the movements synchronized and can do it very quickly

If you're driving a vintage car, you have to unless you want to grind the hell out of your gears.
Just get a dogbox. Synchro wear solved.

sure, but idk how old it would even have to be
if you have one of those cars you probably already know this

It's also useful with cars with higher mileage syncros, but yes, most "modern" cars will mechanically be able to be downshifted without rev-matching. Basically anything 1980+. Basically everything from the 60s on was all syncro, but primitive, easily work syncros.
Double clutch does have a place though. You're pulling into a parking lot, going from 2nd to first. Current rpm 1500-2k. Yeah you could ham fist it in there, some cars even with fresh syncros don't like going through a 2k RPM change into first.
So, you rev match. However, clutch in, rev, pop clutch is quite timing-reliant, ie, your footwork matched with a very slight throttle blip, from low-rpm, all has to be perfect. Much harder than, say, a 4-3 shift starting at 4000rpm. So, clutch in, neutral, give it a rev a bit higher than necessary, but close, slot it in a pop the clutch. It seems like more work, but I assure you it's easier that way. Double clutching has its place, just like knowing how to float a gearbox up AND down. And I mean something OTHER than a Honda with triple cone syncros.

*worn syncros.

Or heavy machinery. Where the technique is actually used daily.

Its a meme, frogposter.
Yes it's an entirely a meme unless you are driving a truck from the 1950s or your gearbox is seriously fucked

Mine's pic related from '61, but everything earlier should be too.
