previosly owned an aw11. Why go FR? did you watch to mutch initial D? look for an s12 200sx, or an early 80s celica gts hatch, both fr 4 cyl full independent suspension and light on their feet and not to sought after so can be found for fairly cheap. I actually just picked up an 89 supra n/a for cheap and They are a little heavier but still a blast to drive and put the back end out every once and a while

IF for some reason this isnt a really shitty bait, if you want some idea of how difficult it will be to do something like this then go look up project binky, its 2 guys converting a mini to 4wd. You will have to do AT LEAST that much work, if not more converting a MR2 to FR. Bear in mind that not only are these guys putting the engine in the same place as before, they are also mounting it the same direction as before, you will not only have to practically rebuilt the entire front end of the car, you will have to do a lot of work to where the engine once was. And dont look at the build and think that you willonly need to do parts of it, you will need to do LITERALLY EVERYTHING they have done. These guys are professional mechanics/fabricators, and do this shit for a living, have a huge fucking workshop full of every tool they could ever need, and it has taken them over 3 FUCKING YEARS and they are only up to the fucking brake and fuel lines. Even IF your dad can weld to something like the quality that those guys can, then you still only have him doing 90% of the fucking work. Then what do you end up with? A fucking AE86. Thats all a fucking MR2 is, a corolla with the engine in the middle. If you dont like the hatchback, then there are coupes out there, about the same money. If you want to do something unique with an MR2 that doesnt end up being what you were trying to avoid in the first place, get an SW20 and figure out something with the engine from a GT4 Celica, its the same thing so should fit without as much fabrication. Then you end up with a 4WD mid engined missile, which would be way more fun than a shitty AE86 clone, and also a fuckton easier to build since you wouldnt have to rebuild the entire fucking car to get to it.

But in the end, this is probably just another shitty bait thread.

and the mini had the space for the engine and gearbox at the front, and didnt need a transmission tunnel. Oh, and the MR2 will need strengthening in the middle to prevent it driving like shit. And good luck getting the engine to fit under that bonnet, you will have fuck all clearance in the best case scenario. oh, and forget about keeping most of the interior trim, the transmission tunnel you will have to cut will get in the way of most of the stuff in there. If you are trying to justify this just because the car has space for an axel in the back you really need to rethink what your priorities are, fitting the rear axle in a conversion like this is nothing compared to the rest of the fabrication that you will have to do, especially around the front end.
