Are the Renegade Tarilhawks fairly Capable? I'm not looking to climb mountains with it, but some moderate off-roading would probably be done a few times a year, but it needs to be a decent daily driver as well and I like it quite a bit on pavement.

Also, I've heard a mixed bag on general Reliability, some people have had zero issues, others have been a catastrophe. Almost every horror story has been about a 2015 though so I was thinking Teething issues. Thoughts?

Isn't Oz different due to the lack of Fog on a lot of the offroad tracks or is that California I'm thinking of?
>>
>>16878305
There's plenty of fog around on dry winter days from East to West southern coast, but not as often in other parts of the world. You're right in the presumption most vehicles here would benefit more from driving/spot lights than fog lights.

Either way, it's a bag load more grunt than the original 2H/1HZ would've offered.
>>
>>16878518
That's an older 6.2 intake and looks like V belt accessory drive. There's several different NA 6.5 intakes that are similar. Wouldn't make much sense to swap all the early 6.2 stuff onto a 6.5.

I'd wager it has something to do with making the conversion easier to adapt to whatever Toyota/Nissan it's being fitted to. Mind you, the company that performs the majority of these conversions in Ausfaglia, "Brunswick Diesels", has a history of being rip off merchants (eg; pulling the sump, fitting new main amen big end bearings and selling as a "full rebuilt" exchange motor).

Fuck I love that colour so much. This small eyed pepe brings joy to my life.

It's even better because if it was one shade darker, it'd look like horrible Australia Plain Packaging colours and if it was lighter, it'd look like a digusting olive colour. But BRG is just spot on. Love it. That and lime green - just not on cars, hehe

>>16878469
Transmission, gearing, lockers...
Normally true but not when offroading, senpai (;
>>
>>16878654
Nah the early NA 6.5 intakes are the same thing but slightly lower profile.
The later ones are similar but offset the runners to bring them closer to equal length.
Literally no reason to use the older intake.
>>
>>16878670
Gearing/transmission isn't a replacement for a large diesel torque curve.
By the time you gear the small gasser low enough to compete with the diesel's torque you've got a top speed of 25.

Lockers don't help if you lack the power to turn the wheels when all four are biting.
>>
>>16878698
Do you have to have a large displacement engine in order to maximise torque curve? Couldn't you simply retune it so to increase power at your tyres rather than having an output maximisation at your engine? But more at the top speed of like 100km/h or something.

This is literally what all the medium and heavy logistics military vehicles do in order to keep displacement low but have insane towing capacity and torque at the wheel.
>>
>>16878730
We're talking small displacement gasser vs large displacement diesel
No you can not "tune" a small displacement rev happy gasser to make torque at the tires rather than the engine.

All gearing does is exhange torque for speed, with some torque loss due to friction and mass.

This is not at all what the heavy logistics military vehicles do. Most of them have large displacement diesels and top out at fairly low speeds.

The ones that seem to have an oddly low displacement diesel for their size are likely running 2 stroke detroit diesels which don't rev for shit and don't make shit for HP but make torque comparable to engines twice their size.
>>
>>16878670
>Transmission, gearing, lockers...
Normally true but not when offroading, senpai (;
The other guy beat me to it, these aren't really a replacement at all, but advantage in completely different ways. In terms of "displacement replacement" in the examples of Landcruisers and Patrols, it's often easier and more effective to simply turbocharger the diesel six that came in them. But then there's the obvious advantage of having a dead simple mechanical N/A diesel, and if such a GM diesel can be bought cheap enough it, it's often better value replacing a factory diesel six that needs a rebuild.
This is more for the purpose of towing or overlanding loaded to the hilt than outright 4x4 capability.

Last time I checked the classifieds the very occasional 6.5 that comes on the market is better value than what ever factory turbo 1HD Toyota that may pop up.
>>
>>16878770
Oh yeah - you're right. Sorry.

I'm incredibly drunk right now and got confusing horsepower with displacement. Yeah they go on heavy, multi-fuel engines. I was trying to rationalise the transmission's role at the wheel and ended up confusing myself.
>>
>>16878810
Are there any NA TayYoda diesel engines that come on the market? What was wrong with the older 6.2 predecessors? And weren't all 6.5s turbo-ed in order to try and match up to the power of the Cummins?
>>
>>16878857
Plenty of Toyota 1HZs and Nissan TD42s (both non turbo) come on the market for various reasons, but for a good running moderate mileage (about 250k km) 1HZ is typically around $3000. Non turbo 6.2 and 6.5 in similar condition usually change hands for no more than $5000. When adapter kits are readily available, it starts making sense.

>>16878289

If I'm lifting the rear of my truck with an add-a-leaf set, will a shackle flip + longer shackles also add to the lift or do they just allow for more droop?

>probably should have posted in the stupid questions general
>>
>>16880968
Nigga how high do you want your back end? An AAL plus a shackle flip would work, but it'd be bouncy as hell and you wouldn't get much more than 1 or 2 inches of travel out of it

Mostly it'll just raise your back end towards the heavens
>>
>>16880980
I'm only looking for about 2 inches of lift but I want more articulation in the rear. But I suppose that means I'd also need extended travel shocks to allow for the added drop and my 5100s wouldn't cut it.
>>
>>16881049
Go with just the shackle flip/extended shackles for now, and see if that's what you want. An extra leaf is mostly to compensate for extra weight over your back-end, even if it does provide a bit of extra travel.

I wouldn't know much about the shackle flip since mine aren't inverted from the factory, but I know the Billies have a decent amount of travel since I'm also running 5100s
>>
>>16881087
Was thinking of that too but I figured the AAL is easier to remove if I don't like it. The shackle flip is more or less permanent on my truck or at least a shitload more work to revert back.

Argh.. So much research to do

Owning two vehicles is no worse on gas than owning just the one that's the worst of the two.
>>
>>16882646
Why own both an SUV and a Truck if they do the exact same thing?
>>
>>16883023
SUV requires a trailer for an open bed, but offers lockable climate controlled cargo storage.
>>
>>16882453
Any reason the pickup can't be used for overlanding? With a bedcap you have a much more accommodating cargo area and load capacity for supplies to last longer outside of civilisation. With false floor and draw setups you can pack for an awful lot of options...
Otherwise, nah. I have two similar branded SUVs, one for work, beach and bush bashing, the other as the family taxi and long distance overlander. I really wish my work pig was at least a crew cab pickup though, as I often find the SUV cargo compartment a shortcoming.
>>
>>16883249
>truck has more cargo area for supplies
Dude. A G-Wagon or Defender with a roof rack holds much more with the only sacrifice being that it can't tow as much as normal picc'em up truccs.
>>
>>16883249
tl,dr; there's nothing wrong with owning an SUV and a pickup if they fulfil their own criteria, at least in my opinion.

Hey guys, I picked up an 02 Frontier with 4x4 and 135k miles on it back in October and over time put on 31 inch General Grabber AT2 tires and did a 1.5 inch lift by adjusting the torsion bar.. Will it be good enough to go off road like that or will I need to do suspension work? I've taken it through a few small "runs" of mud when fishing, but that's about it cause I live in Chicago and I'm waiting till the weather gets better to go to some park. Also does anyone know of any trails close to Chicago?

So since I blew out one of my 31's, and am on my back up 30's. I was thinking, because I really want to diesel swap on 35's-37's and 1 tons, But I was already planning on buying some 33's in a little while, say 6 months, That maybe I should wait longer, save up and buy 35's, a ford 8.8, and gears. What do you guys think? I would be more prep'd for the future swap, when my 4 banger inevitably bites the dust, with a 8.8, and the tires already, not to mention It would hype the build up and make me go through with things.

End goal is something like
>4BT
>Front 40/44, rear 9 inch
>AX15/nv4500 trans
>np205/stock np231
>35's-37's

Yeah, 10k is a stretch, but that is the max I would spend most likely. And considering it would become more reliable, faster, better on the trail, and be a really good learning experience, I think its worth it. The swap probably wouldn't happen for a couple more years though. Like when I'm out of college and have worked a couple summers and during school. Plus I work at a very reputable automotive shop right now so, I don't know, I have the Minds of guys who have build custom rat rods, and 1300hp dagsters at my disposal. Plus a jeep homie. Like every time I think about it I'm like, nah it's waaaaay too much, but then I remember how fucking crazy it would be. I don't know, I got a little while to think about it.

The size difference between a Tahoe/Land Cruiser and Suburban is negligible in 99% of situations, but the Suburban offers more power and a significantly stronger drivetrain that's conducive to reliable operation even with oversize tires and abusive driving over rough surfaces while often being the cheapest option available.

Full width Dana 44 and 9" ford rear aren't 1 ton axles. You need Dana 60 front axle and a Ford 10.25-10.5 sterling or GM 14 bolt FF or a Dana 70 rear...
>>
>>16889669
I was going to post this. The D44/9" is closer to 1/2 ton, although I was going to add for a YJ with the intention of running 35" tires, the half ton axles are still comfortably well within their capability.
>>
>>16889669
>>16889777
He was saying he'd like one tons with 35s, but was considering a compromise at 33s with the 44 and 8.8, because he could do that sooner, rather than waiting for the tons. Just to clarify, based on my understanding.
>>
>>16889870
Yep, that's what I gathered. Regardless of his misinterpretation of the label "1 ton" his choice in componentry is apt.
If I was him, I'd just replace the 31 for the time being and work towards the end goal of being able to run the 35-37s ultimately desired instead of fucking around with a stopgap measure that's still just as elaborate.

Buy a GM 6.5 instead of a 4BT. They weigh the same, the 6.5 makes nearly twice as much power and runs smoother.

>6.5 TD with trans and t case - $500-1500
>dana 60 - $500-1000
>overkill crossover steering - $500
>14 bolt - $150-300
>gears and install kits - $600
>lockers - $750
>H1 wheels and tires - $500

$3500-5150 for far more power than a 4BT, locker and geared 1 tons, and 37s on double beadlocks.
Fuck a $10k budget.

>>16890046
Those prices are unrealistic, but yeah I have considered a ton of different diesels or even gas motors, but so much support and information for the cummins, and that means easier compatibility with other parts. So yeah the 6.5 would be bad ass but it's not the same, and less reliable, by a small margin. 10k was the estimate if I did rebuilds, and steering, and other smaller things that would improve it. Plus possible labor casts if I need help.

Ye, sorry for the miscommunication.

3 linking the front was also a consideration, because it would only cost me about 2k or a bit more to custom fab one with my friend. But thinking about that, doing the fab for a d30, with intentions of upgrading the axles, no matter what axles, would mean restarting.

I didn't mention the 3 or 4 link idea up front since I wanted opinions on that but, if I rebuild my 4 banger, just do 33's and chromoly shafts, I would just start going for the front link.
>>
>>16890383
>Those prices are unrealistic

My 6.5 was $300, Dana 60 $600, disc brake 14 bolt $200, gears and install kits $500, my 14 bolt had a factory locker and it was $330 to Spartan lock the 60. The last set of H1 wheels and tires I bought was $150.

Those prices are not only realistic but easily obtainable without even doing too much shopping around. The only one I think is off is the $1500 upper end for the 6.5, trans, and t case. If you pay over $1000 for that stuff you pull yourself you're getting ripped off pretty bad.

I have spent more than that on steering BUT that's including the full cost of the parts and labor for setting up crossover on the 50 and full high steer on the 60.

The 4BT is reliable in stock form but once you get it up to stock 6.5 power levels they're about the same. Biggest difference is the 4BT just costs a lot more. I think the last one I saw on CL was $3k and needed a rebuild.

1997 Suburban k2500. Of course there are other areas where I've spent tons of money so my project has been far from cheap but I've sprung for a lot of extras while building it.

As far as gathering the stuff to slap locked 1 tons under a YJ with a GM diesel drivetrain, it's easily doable for about half of your budget if you're rushing to get all the parts as past as you can. If you buy stuff as deals pop up you could potentially do it for around a quarter of your budget.

Either uprated/strengthened halfshafts making something else go bang or, take existing half shaft out and mill down at the axle end to engineer a weakspot. That way when it breaks it's at the hub end and you dont have to strip the whole axle down to knock the broken piece out of the diff. I get what you are saying though they go bang scarily easily.

Is there much hate on LR here, everyone seems to be into Jap and theres not much of it in the UK
>>
>>16890576
Lol, honestly, if left standard Landrovers are relatively "bulletproof". If you start trying to run bigger tires or lockers without changing much else is when they start becoming troublesome but the same could be said for a lot of 4x4s. From my minuscule experience with Salisburys the carrier bearings, axle spline area and axle housing tubes (where they slip into the pumpkin) are the weakest points, but there's plenty of aftermarket to amend this and companies like Ashcroft seem to be the go to guys these days. At the end of the day the Salisbury is based on a Dana 60 centre so there's no reason they can't be built into a stout piece of gear.
While I once lamented Landrovers, these days I've become somewhat Rover-curious... May God have mercy on my soul.

Take the PMD and relocate it some place out of the engine bay. Behind the bumper gets plenty of airflow, but is exposed to the elements. In the passenger compartment is dry and stable temp-wise but you will need a cooling fan.

Have a replacement PMD on hand and always go for the lifetime warranty ones. It WILL fail, it is only a matter of time. Also a good idea to check the harmonic balancer.

They had a lot of reliability/build quality issues but here in the UK they are the best when you factor in
Servicing - parts are abundant, rotors/pads can be done yourself all round for £100 using OEM
Residuals - Once they hit £7.5k (TD5 90) or £10k (td5 110) they dont go lower

Only downside is the low power, ok on torque (300nm) less so on bhp (120bhp) but fit a VNT turbo, larger intercooler, better air filter, remap and 200 bhp/450nm is not only achievable but reliable. To do that yourself will cost ~£1k without the remap (costing £3-400 extra)

Also I've never seen one snap in half like some of the American off roaders do

>Can't this war just end? I don't want to sit out of another thread...

>>16892486
The factory power figures may sound low, but for this sort of vehicle they're adequate. I wouldn't be putting any bets on a 200hp TD5 in terms of duty cycle and longevity in adverse conditions. That's a fair whack of power to be pushing out of an agricultural 2.5 for anything but the odd highway overtaking maneuver.
Chassis wise, they're tough enough.
>>
>>16892547
>That's a fair whack of power to be pushing out of an agricultural 2.5 for anything but the odd highway overtaking maneuver.

Except the td5 engine is a 6 cylinder BMW engine with a cylinder chopped off to fit under the bonnet. The reason it is tuned so poorly is because it is designed to be capable of running on low grade fuels. The tuning market on these in the UK is quite popular with 200bhp being the "safe" limit - know of a few in excess of 130k miles in that tuned state. 250 is possible but longevity, not so much. It also helps drivability -less stirring of the gearstick = increased MPG which is a bonus even if you don't drive them for the economy.

Ah, no it isn't. It was developed by Landrover before they had anything to do with BMW.
AFAIK it was based on an already existing motor.
>>
>>16892666
I recommended an alternative engine swap for the YJ. No one told him to buy a Suburban.
>>
>>16892695
On further inspection; >>16892648
It was indeed "based" on the L-Series engines.
According to Wikipedia it was developed alongside a 4 cyliner 2.0L and a 6 cylinder 3.0L. But when BMW bought them out "they brought their own range of diesels which rendered the 2-litre and 3-litre Storm engines unnecessary"
Again, I guess it depends on how those 200bhp examples are driven, treated and loaded. I still remain skeptical constantly utilising that sort of power when the going gets tough.
>>
>>16892717
My mistake then. Probably shouldn't post while drunk.
>>
>>16892737

>>
>>16892726
Found the exact same link... My bad we are sort of both correct. BMW bought land rover and bought the TDV6 in the dicovery/RR sport (same chassis/different body) well they didnt have conventional chassis but you get my point.
The L3222 Range Rover had the TDV8 and both engines, or certainly the TDV8 are plagued by turbo failure, both of which are either body off or engine out jobs. Typical for BMW engines of the '00 era.

I actually really would like an L322 but plagued by engine reliability/air suspension failure to the point that air compressors are service items replaced every 3 years.

Now that Ford own LR they are fitted with the TDCI puma engine/'box from the transit vans which have no end of problem. Early TD5's dont take the tune well, you need a 2003 or later engine with revised manifold design as these warp even in standard tune.

Also I think they sound good for what is basically a tractor engine

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpVvQYKVimo
>>
>>16892803
Actually, the TDV6 was a Jaguar/Landrover joint venture designed motor that came during the Ford era, and the V8 diesel also didn't have anything to do with BMW either, but I'm not sure on the origin (presuming another Jag motor?).
From memory though some of the earlier D3 platform Range Rovers may have had the BMW six?

All said an done though, the best diesel motors for a Land Rover are Isuzu diesels.
>>
>>16892840
Im thinking of the TD6 which was the BMW engine. The others were Jag/ford/LR development I think.

The Isuzu is rated highly over here by farmers for its carrying capacity but engine conversions are more costly than it would cost to tune the TD5. In an ideal world the 3.9/4.2 V8 petrol from the P38 would be the best whichever the one is where the cylinders dont go bad

Ebay 9-12k lb winches aren't a bad bet these days, and will run you about $300-400 landed. Look for Runva or Tigerz 2. The rule of thumb with winches is you want them to be rated at least 1.5 times the gross vehicle (or combination if you tow a trailer offroad) mass.
I'm pretty sure that brush guard is a home fabbed job.

Dear /ORG/

I bought a 2014 GMC Sierra today with 4WD. I was sitting in my driveway and put the truck in neutral and shifted it to 4-low. I cannot get it back out of 4-low now and can't figure it out.

If you guys don't have anything I am taking it to the Chevy dealership down the road from me in the morning. Hopefully they won't charge me a "nominal" fee to get my truck out of 4-low.

Idunno senpai. There was a 9 inch piece of granite on an 80 degree slant on the right side.

You'd charge at it going 15 and freespin your front tyres (since there was legit flowing water down the rock) and when you press on the brakes at where you're freespinning, you'd have your tyres locked without momentum but the angle makes you slide down 5 inches to the winch spot. My friend on 35s couldn't do it.

And I'm not putting 40s on Taynger.

If you didn't hit rough terrain with it, then sounds like the electronics are frayed. Just be glad that you're at your house and not 50+ miles away from your city and have this issue. Good thing you caught it "early".

On the terrain here, the 4wd system builds up so much tension that if I take it off the path, put it into electronic "2wd", then move the vehicle back and forth, it finally shifts from 4wd-l into 2wd with a really loud "THUNK".

It always weirds me out that international picc'em up truccs have coil rears. Almost all picc'em up truccs here are leaf spring with 2 inches higher in the back than the front.
Another thing that's weird is the short bed and mandatory "Crew Cab" option for all international vehicles with beds.

I guess you have less individuals carrying large amounts of top soil, gravel, and lumber to justify a NA / International split (or worse: THINK they'll ever carry that much shit in the bed).

>It always weirds me out that international picc'em up truccs have coil rears.
They don't. The D23 Navara released 2 years ago was the first global Pick-up to offer a coil sprung rear, the base trade pack model D23s still have leaves. In fact, the 1/2 ton Ram was the first commercially available pickup that I know of with a coil rear end.
>Almost all picc'em up truccs here are leaf spring with 2 inches higher in the back than the front.
As do the global pick ups. At least the global midsize trucks have moved away from the older style torsion bar to double wishbone coils.
>Another thing that's weird is the short bed and mandatory "Crew Cab" option for all international vehicles with beds.
Again, that's an option. Almost all of the global pickups have three cab options on a single wheel base. Crew cab in Aus are incredibly popular as they offer one of the most versatile recreational body styles available. And as a weekly trade pickup, they tow a lockup trailer extremely well. Just need to drop the trailer for weekend antics. The majority of fleet vehicles are single cab 8' dropside beds.

Yeah, just the Everest. All Ranger have leaves.
Just like all the pickup based SUVs like Isuzu MU, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the like.
>>16896876
Tell you what, those dropside trays are infinitely better to work with than styleside beds. And even with a shortbed on a crewcab, it allows for a 6' wide tray. Those rollbars are normally associated with higher trim "sports" recreational models (like SR5 Hilux and Wildtrak Ranger).
They certainly make a Colorado/D-Max in all three options too.
>>
>>16886591
2.0 ifp shocks front and rear. They're 260 a pair
>>
>>16896939
Ah so they don't just give out rollbars to every Aussie rugbymom who buys a Hilux. Good to know. Also good to know on those back bed coils v.leaves.
I've never seen a newer 2015+ Colorado single cab though... Extended cab yes. But not single cab (yet).

Most things I've patched together from anecdotal evidence so would've never known the fold out beds were regular hiluxes even if I saw them in person. Rarely do I ever see an F-150 or 1500 with the commercial fold out access beds despite (as you mentioned) them being much better to work with. Even on fleeters unless they're F-350s or higher. Plus you can drop all the toolboxes you want onto them without ripping a hole through.

Anyway. I gotta sober up and wake up in 7 hours and try not to crash into trees

I'd speculate it'd simply be a LHD adaptation of ours with different engine options. Not 100% on the European market, but Aus Rangers only get the 2.2CTDi four cylinder or 3.2CTDi five cylinder (which is a fantastic motor btw) without a gas option.
I'd presume Ford NA will develop options very similar to what Chevrolet offers for the NA Colorado, a gas four and a V6. Keep in mind it'll have to have Bronco market friendly options too if it's going to share this platform (fingers crossed for a 5.0L, although that may be wishful thinking).

>>
>>16896727
As long as the bar is rated for a winch, and the mounting bolts and fixings are load rated there's absolutely no worry. It should be strong enough to suspend your car in the air.
If you're making your own winch cradle, just be sure to use at least 6mm (I'd use nothing less than 10mm) steel plate fixed hard on your chassis.

>Ok, here goes:
Truck was a Wahmbulannz back when first built. The back seats were removed to make room for medical crap (with the exception of the passenger side 2nd row bench for a jump seat). That crap was removed in the back though, along with the inverter for the 110v electrical system and 2nd alternator or compressor that was under the hood. I still have the AC, some of the flashing lights, the siren speakers, the radios (gotta hook them back up), all of the emergency control equipment, a laptop mount (I removed it for now), and center console with all of the switches intact by the looks of it.

I figure I have a great base to build an oberland rig from, but some of the stuff is gonna be very costly. But first things first I need to fix all of the misc. Things wrong with it mechanically. For instance, once the weather warms up I'll be fixing my valdez oil spill coming from it.

Not having a garage, and stuck working nights really sucks. But hey... at least I was promised day shift sometime next month.

>TL;DR: Pic related is my truck 20 years ago
>>
>>16897472
Shame you don't have the second alternator or compressor. Is there still provision to drive it under your hood?
Having a second A/C compressor is a fantastic base to build your own "Endless Air" or "Air On Board" style tire compressor. I'd hook a small
2-3 gallon tank up as a reservoir combined with 6-8cfm and have air for days.

There is a dead pully where either the air compressor or 2nd alternator was, so installation will be easy. I'd bet it was a 2nd alternator attached, as there's a few wires in that area taped off and out of the way, not to mention the old emergency lights back in the day drew a LOT of power. Another dead giveaway is that rooftop AC unit. I tried plugging it into an extension cord from my house to see if it would work, and it blew the 15a fuse like it was nothing. Starting that sucker up will overwhelm the alternator currently installed.

On board air is something I want though. For now the eventual plan is 2 alternators under the hood, an air compressor in the back with a reserve tank underneath. There's enough room for whatever you want down there...
>>
>>16897640
Makes sense. Given the vast amount of 12V air compressors these days for reasonable money, a larger charging amperage is probably the way to go. Especially with all the pattern 60mm piston compressors on eBay. I'd probably try build it into that pseudo parcel shelf along the passenger side quarter window.
If I had your setup, I'd be interested to see if there'd be a portable genset that could power that rooftop A/C overnight.

Yea... that shelf is coming out and something else is going in place there... That "box" houses the blower unit for the rear heat/ac. Since I have no compressor, and the previous owner snipped the coolant lines heading back there, I figure that will free up a lot of space.

>Portable generator to power AC.
If the truck is parked, I'll probably just plug it in. I've got a 50a shore power input just beside the fuel filler. Only issue is I'm missing that Inverter. Last time I priced one out powerful enough to fire the AC up it was close to $1000. On the flip side I guess I could power my house in an outage with 2 high output alternators and that inverter...

But I digress, gotta fix the oil leak and a few other misc things first before I open that can of worms...

Under normal operation they're perfectly fine. If you try to overspeed it to ten times what it's rated for, it will fail sooner than a genuine Holset, and it will do so in a more catastrophic manner that will likely damage other components like wiring, soft hoses, or thin plastics.

If you're building a hybrid turbo, many of the hybrid kits come with genuine Holset compressor housings that takes care of a large chunk of the small amount of danger inherent to them. That's likely the route I will be taking with mine. $170 HX35w replica + $250 HX40 billet compressor and Holset HX40 compressor housing, much cheaper than buying a genuine HX35 or HX40 and overall performs better than either one on the 6.5l.

Google, my friend. Who told you a 4HE1 diesel from a medium duty truck weighed less than an SBC?

I fucked up which ELF/NPR motor I was suggesting, meant to recommend the 3.0, which is actually the JJ1.

Yeah, the 4.8 is too big.

Also "half as much" is hyperbole, it's actually like 200-250 lbs lighter.
>>
>>16899171
705 lbs straight from Isuzu's documentation, so 40-75 lbs lighter than a 4BT.
>>
>>16899171
>>16899215
Also:
>82 hp
>207 ft-lbs
Why? Any SBC or BBC option is going to weigh less and make significantly more power and torque while being easier to find, having more swap documentation, and being cheaper/easier to source parts for.

Trump always tells the truth, even when he lies.

Trump:
>Obama wiretapped me!
News:
>Obama himself did not physically tap into wires at Trump tower to monitor communication. Trump confirmed liar.
CIA:
>We have no evidence thus far that communications were monitored.
Social media:
>Trump confirmed liar.
CIA:
>It seems some communications may have been recorded for national security purposes. We can neither confirm nor deny these allegations.

Also. Today I learned there exists a 5.3 V8 Colorado available in single cab.

Weird that Chebby would've made the small trucc available in I-4, I-5, and V-8 without an intermediate V or Inline 6 to buffer it. I guess such is the perils of a fleeter based market.

you need to get more pictures of this kid
i wonder how fat he is now

>>
>>16899075
Not him, but i know the 4BD1 3.9 litre often put into Landrovers (which would be my engine of choice) is also in excess of 750lb, as is the 3.9 Mitsubishi 4D34. Burbalade isn't wrong when he says the 6.5 is marginally lighter than the common 3.9.
>>16899171
The 4JJ1 is a great modern diesel, but is significantly more of a project getting a computer monitored CRD to run in a vehicle it wasn't designed for.
>>
>>16900954
http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7348
I'll try find data on the 6.5 but from what I found looking into Landcruiser conversions the Detroit/Chev from memory ended up about 750lb and was about 2-4" shorter than a typical 3.9 four cylinder.
I love the commercial direct injected fours, but there is a good argument for the V8.

I have a i5 in a Z71 regular cab. It's still a turd. I miss my old 4.3.

Hm. Maybe his single cab just had it swapped out which is a possibility. The weird thing was that chebby tossed in a V8 option into their compact truccs which is weird considering they skipped V6 production.

I fucking miss my I-5 Colorado. Anon if you have a spare second, could you PLEASE cold start the I-5 (under 5 degrees C) and rev the engine up to 3 000? Then post like a 10 second youtube video? I miss that sound on long winter nights waking up at 8am to the sound of my I-5 in cold temperatures and it still being dark.
