Leaking oil was Pre-Evo thing. Knucks, panheads and shovels.

Never seen a drop of oil fall out of my twin cam, the milfucky 8 doesn't drip either.

Built like shit? Fuck no, lol. They're engineered like ass using old technology but they are by no means low in quality.. they're entirely overbuilt and one of the easiest scoots to work on. They're caveman tech and everythings far bigger than it needs to be.

Source, I fuck with mine.
>>
>>16857519
That's the thing I noticed when comparing my shadow to my dad's flstc, while mine had a lot more tech (other than EFI), his was made out of much thicker, sturdier and more quality of materials.

>>16857489
World's full of homos, didn't you read the news?
>>
>>16857519
So basically Harley-Davidson bikes are sorta like American muscle cars? Simple engineering, no cutting edge technology, shit power to displacement ratios, but enough torque to not give a shit about any of it?
>>
>>16857527

It's comparing a BBQ beef sandwich to a bowl of top ramen. They both hit the spot in different ways.

As horrific as old Harleys used to be they're nowhere near as bad as the early Japcrap, I'm not talking 70's during the resurgence of the rising sun, prior to that. When Japan was the China of manufacturing.

Just don't expect modern technology, or modern handling with a Harley and you'll be fine. You'll have a bike that'll age gracefully, always have an insane amount of aftermarket support, OEM parts for days and can be fixed by the average fucktard. The Milfucky 8's are starting to get more NASA shit under the hood so good luck with all those communication wires and whatnot.
>>
>>16857546
And misfiring is a feature.
>>
>>16857553
Misfiring? Is that a common issue with H-Ds? I always hear about leaking oil, vibrating handlebars, and shoddy build quality, but not engine misfiring.

>>16857568
I addressed oil leaks above, that's a pre-Evolution engine thing, its a meme.

Vibrating handlebars? Maybe if you swapped out a bunch of shit without a proper tune and it's running like ass? TwinCam B's are counterbalanced and hardmounted, very little shake, The Twincams on dyna frames are rubber mounted and not counterbalanced, they do vibrate a bit but nothing horrific. It feels good on the nutsack regardless.

Shoddy build quality addressed above, low tech? Yes, shoddy? Fuck no. They're farm equipment. They're not winning any prizes for advancements in engineering but sometimes you'd swear their assembly line had to employ blacksmiths.
>>
>>16857600
I don't have a problem with the sweat smell, it's mostly the lingering stench of detergent that stays in even after sweating in it that gives me a headache.

He means misfire, other v twins have 2 pins on the crank so the rods move independent of eachother, Harleys only have one pin, both pistons are on the same pin.
>>
>>16857608
he means the "potato potato" sound that isn't either, but related to the weird engine timing
>>
>>16857646
>>16857622
Speaking of that, would the 750 engines be decent for freeway use? How would it compare to say, an FZ-07? FZ-07s are street fighters made to be nimble in the cities, but they also do quite well on the freeway. Wondering if the Street Rod would be similar.

Boots and gloves are definitely more important than pants. Gloves cover the part of your body you instinctively put down to absorb impact in a crash. Boots cover your feet and ankles which are easily broken in a crash. Your legs have some of the strongest bones in your body and are not easily broken. Yeah road rash on your butt and legs sucks, but breaking your ankles and hands is much worse.

Gloves, boots, helmet, and jacket are all vitally important when riding. Gloves and boots are even more important than a jacket for slow city riding.

Fuck yeah that sounds pretty good man. I've always loved Yamaha anyway, fuck H-D. I'm the anon who own the red FZ-07 and absolutely love it. I grew up on Yamaha 2 stroke dirt bikes and they always performed so much better than my friend's bikes which were Kawasaki and Honda. My dad always had Harleys growing up, despite himself admitting they are a maintenance nightmare (back in the day) so of course that's what I saw street bikes as being.

But god damn, my Yamaha FZ-07 has been flawless mechanically and with good maintenance it's been nice and easy to own. I've owned it for about two years now and couldn't be happier.

Thinking about getting a cruiser one day as a second bike, and maybe I'll start looking at the Bolt. Good shit, thanks for the video.
>>
>>16857987
They are cheap too, you can pick up a nice one for under 5 grand if you look around, I'm almost completely decided its going to be my second bike. I started on a Ninja 250

From what i read on the ktm forums, the stock exhaust already flows pretty well so it doesn't really need to be tuned until you add Power Commanders and stuff, so I don't really plan on it.

I did a 15 minute idle ecu reset after I put it on and it doesn't backfire or pop at all under normal deceleration. It got a little poppy when I was coasting in first down a steep hill in a parking garage though.

that's not how it works, a power commander is what lets you tune it, there is no way to tune it without a power commander or other aftermarket solution

if you just put a slip-on muffler, it's fine, but you should tune the bike if you put on a full exhaust, header and all.

>>
>>16858446
>Should

I mean really you should tune a brand new bike as soon as you buy it because they run pretty lean.

Pic related makes more sense to me than what you're saying though desu.
>>
>>16858500
That person is wrong. Popping on deceleration is because of the air injection system (emissions stuff) that new bikes have. Removing that will eliminate the popping that you hear with an aftermarket exhaust, it's just normally muffled by the stock system.
>>
>>16858510
also stock bikes won't run lean enough to damage anything, and that sensor on your exhaust is often not used to adjust AFR when the bike is running anyway.

you should get the tune to make the most out of your pipe anyway, it will make your bike run better, but it isn't strictly necessary with just a slip-on
>>
>>16858521
>>16858510
and here is a link with some more info about the air injection system, called SAS on the KTM:

my bike shows me the red light when its stopped, you know, the "low battery light",however, once i start riding, the light goes off, what did my bike mean by this? fucked up charging system? battery is brand new
>>
>>16858510
My bike has a stock muffler and no cat converter, the popping is from unburnt fuel igniting inside the muffler which is also why flames come out of the exhaust when you let off the throttle.
>>
>>16858384
My red line is at 10K kek.
>>
>>16858538
Your bike draws power from the battery while it is off, probably for the alarm then while going it is making power so the light turns back off, makes sense right?

you should have it on a trickle charger when not being ridden is what i am trying to get at here.
Otherwise you will fuck that new battery soon.

Interesting. Thanks. I'll take a look at it after this game of doto. I'm not against getting it tuned, i just did some light research and found that it didn't seem necessary.
>>

This is exactly the purpose of the air injection systems fitted to new bikes, as explained in the link here: >>16858532

>>16858567
>it didn't seem necessary
It's not necessary. I've been riding my FZ-07 with aftermarket pipes and no tune for almost two years now. I would definitely see a performance gain if I tuned it, though it isn't mandatory for the operation of the bike.

Those are the only signs I'm aware of to watch out for, and they're all good. Any suggestions?

Modern FI systems autotune off the O2 sensor during closed-loop mode, and apply a "best guess" adjustment based of that tuning to open-loop mode running. Since you are in closed-loop most of the time, it works well.

BTW popping on decel isn't a useful guide anymore, as your FI system will shut the injectors off completely at throttle-off anywhere above idle.

AND last for reminding all that if you have a Keihin FI system, you don't need a PC. Keihin tuning cables and software is available (KTM FI change software is just Keihin software with KTM branding. My understanding is it doesn't care what brand you hook it up to.)

For a pipe? Often not. Not to say there are no benefits to a tune. There may be compromises the manufacturer made for emissions, etc. that can be improved upon. But for a pipe or airbox mod, usually no.

IMO high end helmets are more important for street riding than track riding. Comfort and noise reduction take a big role in street riding and that's the only real advantage of the best helmets.
>>
>>16859752
I'm just using some shitty 150$ icon alliance and it just feels like a fat turd on my head and it isn't super comfy. But with me finish my tattoo and saving for a new bike I can't justify buying an expensive helmet right now

Yeah I have a cheapo helmet right now and found a carbon fiber helmet at the shop for $300 I really want to get.

Super light and comfortable but my helmet works good right now and I can't really justify buying another one.

Polls very close and have gotten around 25 responses, some with obviously fake emails that shouldn't be counted, (kappa@gmail, really?)
but at the moment it's a dead heat for all three responses so will OP next thread with the poll and post results tomorrow night so maybe we can have a clear winner

Here's the poll again if you somehow missed it

It's fucking awesome. Below 5k RPM it's a little sluggish, but pretty much as quick as my VT. After 5 though it takes off. I keep merging into the highway at like 90-100mph unintentionally.

It's pretty comfy too. I'm overall really enjoying it, going on a big tooj blast with a buddy tomorrow, he'll be on a r6 so it should be interesting

Significantly cooler operation than aircooled.

The fuel tank houses the fuel pump, they probably didnt want to make the already small fuel tank eve smaller.

He will trail behind till the wind blows him off the track, mate. The only chance thee little 125 has is on pinhead turns, but even then the little bicycle doesn't have enough to continue accelerating through bends.

This isn't a dick measuring thing, but at one point it's just not fun to go on spins with people who will trail behind so much,

What you may consider is that some of these Urals have 2 wheel drive (sidecar + back whee;), and others are one wheel drive. The one wheel drive is a better candidate for sidecar removal. After all the design is very old, so handling capabilities probably aren't cutting edge.
