Why do all the modern, futuristic, electrical cars have to look so... ugly?
this
i can't get behind EV and be a tesla fanboy like everyone else because they look ridiculous, like sterile soapbars with the curves of a bathtub.
once they make another roadster or something like that i'll be on board

If you look at something like an old Range Rover for example, these cars had character. It seems the more we advance in technology, the more cars start looking the same. Like round blobs with too many buttons everywhere.
They are trying to be unconventional to establish a recognizable style for their differentiated brand.

essence of cuckoldry
>ugly
Depends.
The ones who go with Prius or Teslas are the same who call conventional cars ugly.
You just need a faible for the futuristic to like them.

This isn't limited to Tesla, though Tesla's designers have not figured out how to make their cars look decent. They've been especially bad at making the grille-less front end look good.
Low drag + safety regs = ugly
The more you focus on muh efficiency the more you have to go towards this soap bar shape.
When there were few regulations and cars were very unsafe and very inefficient, there was a large breadth of styling and shape. The more rules there are, the more cars will tend to look alike. This is just how it will continue to be for most cars. Only those niche cars on the very high end will have distinguishing features and actual style.
>crash test standards raising belt lines and making pillars thicker
>pedestrian safety standards making front ends amorphous blobs
>ambitious MPG requirements (CAFE) making low drag massively important leading to roundness and lack of features
Designers have less and less to work with as time goes on, so they do stupid shit like making ridiculous ugly shaped grilles and headlights to try and differentiate their cars from a sea of shit that looks the same (see: Lexus).

It's kind of depressing to think that in 20 years, all cars will look like this Tesla.

I don't know, it's pretty annoying though. These fuckers need to release a conversion kit already so we can have good looking electric cars.
Imagine if this was electric Kreygasm
>>16855345
Electric AE86 with a simulated manual transmission, really loud speakers on the outside playing 4age effects and a powerband tweaked to match the 4age's
Just imagine what else you could do.

>Kreygasm
You have to go back.

this
>>16855345
>imagine if this was worse
why? stop skipping your physics classes kid, it will prevent you from making stupid decisions like buying an electric car.
Model X details are great. the problem is the general shape. If it had a boxier back end. Then it would be better.

Blame safety nannies enforcing strict impact rules which dictate the overall shape of a car. Also standardisation across multiple sub brands for ease (i.e. cost reduction) of manufacture dictates the overall shape too, since fitment won't allow for much deviation. Companies like PSA, VAG etc.

The general shape is just looking incredibly awkward.
>>16855345
Send it to this guy or buy the shit from Manzanita and do it yourself. 0-60 in under 2 on a track with slicks.
>>16855369
are there any manual transmission electric cars out there?
>>16857772
There's a lot of Geo Metro/Swift EV conversions that use the stock gearbox. They're only using a 10hp forklift motor though.
The "TOO MUCH TORKXXX FOR A TRANSMISSION" thing is a meme. There are transmissions and overdrives that can take the torque of a real motor but they're not cheap or practical in most cases.
