Someone is mad at someone else and trying to force that it was them for whatever reason. The guy in question posts here something like once a year so it's spilling into these threads because they think it is relevant. That's about it. Standard Australian shit posting. any advice here?
my clutch has nearly no play and its getting hard to get it to neutral. What to do ? Would replacing clutch cable help or is it something else?

adjust the cable you idiot, look up in the manual for your bike the procedure for doing this.

After getting a 600 for my first bike it's pretty evident everyone who wines about 600s being too much are whiney cunts.
Just brush up on all your msf course shit. Watch twist of the wrist or something. Take it easy for a few days and focus on practicing skills. don't do anything stupid. You'll be fine and won't be crying about having to sell your bike and buy another in 2 months.
Also don't be ashamed of you drop it.
>>
>>16838222
600s are exceptionally dangerous bikes. You touch the throttle and the front end comes up. You touch the bars and the bike scrapes peg. you touch the brakes and the bike flips over the front.

Wouldn't recommend for anyone unless they're actually a proper superbike racer.

Should I sell it privately or should I ask a garage how much he will give me for it while buying a YBR125 from him?

My nmax has 2900 kms.

It's fine. Your oil doesn't care unless you manage to overhead the engine, which won't overhead unless you manage to fuxor the cooling system somehow.
>>
>>16838713
Kek. Wouldn't a larger rear sprocket make it accelerate better? It's slow but it cruises really well
>>
>>16837939
Refer to your manual for clutch adjustment. Inspect cable at clutch lever for damage. If any strands are broken, replace cable.
>>
>>16838721
yeah, thought you meant it accelerated quickly already but had a low top speed when you said it wasn't fast but had torks
>>
>>16837978
>One is more precise and one is more rough i guess.

Nah, but it's easier to have two adjustment points vs one long dangly extended adjuster. Some cables like Harley have an adjuster in middle of cable.

Adjusting engine side first is customary, with final adjustment done at lever for convenience.

Typical free play is about a nickel's thickness at the lever, after making sure cable end is seated at engine end.

Larger rear sprocket only improves mechanical advantage in first gear. Cruise RPM in top gear will be higher and top speed if limited by gearing will be lower.

Smaller rear sprocket drops RPM in top gear.

If not, it will be pretty slow but you can make them fairly quick, the after market is huge
>>
>>16839087
>Larger rear sprocket would help in every gear though.

It just changes your shift points. If you aren't getting what you want out of a given gear, you're in the wrong gear unless you've run out of gears in one direction or the other.

I run taller than stock gearing on all my street bikes because I prefer to loaf at cruising speed on da highway. Mostbikes come with relatively low gearing so Fatty McLardass and his hambeast wife can have lotsa torqueage at low speeds in town.

Shafty gear options are limited but those who care sometimes find other same-make bikes whose rear hub will swap, like VTX 1300s and 1800s.

Motors torn down completely now, it's off to the machine shop for bead blasting. It currently has the 1st oversize pistons/rings in it which tells me it was rebuild before, will be taking it to 3rd oversize even if it needs it or not.

First round of parts arrived today. Everything that can be replaced is being replaced, every fastener, every bearing, every seal, everything.

Keeping original points ignition. Something that can be fixed and maintained on the road. Keep an extra set in the bike, Fuck putting a pamco in. Paid $80 for a 200w rotor/stator/timer from Mister Electric because I'm not falling for Hughs 400% jew markup. (XS Direct here in Canada sells the 200w PMA kit for $350, lol)

Just making a little rock solid engine, I whistled the electric starter into the woods, I run a headlight, a brake/rear and that's all. No battery, no problems.

I suggest you swing down to SSB and set on bikes and see what you like.

Solid machines, plentiful used so wise to buy used and save money. 883 was born (as a debored 1200) for insurance reasons hence the similar larger displacement Sporties. Easy to work on and like other Harleys has an aftermarket no other brand can come close to matching.

Sporsters are not a "girls bike" and anyone so asserting is a motorcycling history illiterate.

Since xlforum is down for some reason (it's the canonical Sportster site) I suggest Chop Cult if you are looking at a specific deal and want intelligent feedback. Good community and not a bunch of uptight Boomer fucksticks like many other forums. Lots of Sporty owners there and many take them cross country.

So, 98% of Harley owners? I own a 2007 FXDB myself, I love it. I'm into custom chops though and holy fuck Harley owners will never consider anything without a pan or shovel a proper chop.

Except that in reality before HD's marketing department got in metrics far, far outnumbered HD chops.

Ignore all the shit on the front of the bike, it was just on that KZ750 front end, it's all gone now except for those long forks, the front wheel and the trees.

That XS650 rear wheel is gone, in the first picture there 2nd shelf on the cart is a PBI 32 tooth 530 sprocket drilled in HD bolt pattern, so I can run an old 16x3 HD wheel on the back and run a disc and caliper setup from a 2003 HD softtail.

No front brake, rear brake will be run from the handlebars from the ex-front brake lever. Mid controls using an extended stock style shift lever.

A front end, a gas tank, 2 coils, a condenser, a motor, a seat, a rear fender, a rear wheel.

Nothing else needed.

>Expensive to purchase and maintain.

Put down the crack pipe and walk away slowly on the "maintain" bit. No valve adjustments, belt beats chain for life and shaft for complexity, weight and maintenance. Belts on Sportsters are easy for owners to change unlike big twins. Evo Sporties are, all of them, easy for owners to maintain and noob mechanic friendly.

Purchase is as good as the deal you cut. Demo ride the 883 and the 1200 back to back to see if like if buying new.

Fun finance trick I did when I bought my '88 FXR:
I got one invoice for that VIN with zero accessories. (Avoid dealer accessories unless free or close to it, you can get hyooooge variety later.) I got a second invoice for same VIN with many accessories to pad the price. I got the loan based on the large invoice then bought the bike without extras so I rode home with no out of pocket down payment. Not needed if your dealer offers zero down.

BUY THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUALS AND PARTS CATALOG. Harley does those exceptionally well and with part numbers in hand you can have a very easy life shopping online.

>but if you have to explain it to every normie you're fighting an uphill battle

I don't have to, but it's fun putting assholes in their place.
>>
>>16839283
Cool. That four-piston Softail caliper will get it done and the price is right. Dunno if need HD rear wheel sprocket or disc spacers to center but they are cheap.

It should work out nicely.

That's the thing, you really can't. They don't have any public track days. Some of the car clubs have private days, but they are CAR clubs. You can rent the whole track, but that also entails marshals, EMT service, fire crew, so it comes out to about 1k an hour, minimum 3 hours.

Bolt owner here. Check the specs. Superior in every way as long as you don't need HD on your tank.

I'm already looking to upgrade after one year of owning it so be prepared to want to step from a midsize cruiser soon after you get it (any midsize).

That's how track days work though. You rent the track for 8 hours then split the cost.by charging 50 people $160 or whatever. Laguna Seca isn't going to be a cheap track because it's really famous and has a bunch of environmental and political bullshit.

If you are a motorcycle mechanic you'll naturally pick it up. There's no excuse for some dumbfuck calling (any) motorcycle, other vehicle, or any machine what it is not. It perpetuates the stupid. Those who know not should simply shut up or ask questions.

It's the same thing as firearm illiterates making uninformed comments about weapons. It's noise pollution.

If into technical shit the history of its development is relevant to understanding evolution. That goes for any system or machinery. For example if building a custom motorcycle or car, understanding what fits what and how it works or can work with components from different vehicles or different years involves when it was made and for what specific purpose.

When someone makes a false assertion, it's in the interest of truth to educate them. If they are being wetoddid, such as belittling someone else's choice from a position of ignorance, it's ethical and appropriate to correct them.

History of the VTX examples above was relevant when the owners figured out final drives would swap. No Honda manual would tell you this, but knowing the models were built in overlapping periods suggests they might share parts. They do, and VTX owners can gear up or down for dirt cheap.

In the case of Sportsters, history isn't just anecdotes and old pictures. You can, and many do, use Sportsters as adventure bikes and scramblers which was their original purpose. Knowing what swaps or swaps with modification over that history affects thousands of custom bikes built every year.

Why was it built? What can it do? What did its predecessors and successors do that suggest more uses? All are relevant to motorcycling. Front end swaps on sportbikes are common, and again based on knowing the lineage and specs of a variety of machines. GSXR engine swaps like 1000cc into 750s aren't in the factory service manual but they work nicely.

Have you seen how stupid the average motor vehicle operator is? People crash 150cc standards with drum brakes in a straight line safety courses and fuck if I know how.

Even beyond that it's not a matter of being able to survive on a 600 (although no matter how careful you are if someone pulls out in front of you no matter of taking it easy is going to save you from your ability to control that bike or not), but it is harder to learn or ride safely when you are devoting a bunch of your focus to babying the bike.

Right, and it's harder to learn on a 250 than it is on a 125. Better yet a 50cc scooter. Grow a pair of balls and get the bike you want. People will always be retarded on any sized bike. As long as you're not one of those people you are good to go.

Obviously the smaller the bike the better off you'll be but you're really not that good off riding any kind of motorcycle they are inherently dangerous.

There's no arguing that riding 'learner' bikes is safer but don't let anyone, especially from dbt convince you to get a meme 250 that you don't even want

I'm not sure how safe I'd feel on an older 250, let alone a 125, in highway traffic. Yeah, the bikes can match traffic speed, but it sure is nice to be able to accelerate from (say) 65 to 75 in a hurry in order to get out of someone's blind spot.

To be clear, I think little bikes are great for learning throttle control and line selection on closed courses, and ideally everyone would start on a pw50 at age 4 and/or race in their local 250 series, but that's not necessarily a reason to buy a little bike for the road.
>>
>>16840311
Reminder that it's safer to ride faster than traffic. Holding 5-10mph more than traffic is doing will keep you constantly passing cars and make your riding way safer.

git gud.
>>
>>16840311
my aprilia rs 125 was a better bike in every measurable way (except maybe mpg) than a boring 250 four stroke

took some serious twisting of the throttle to maintain 75 or so mph on the highway but it had 20 or so more mph in reserve if the need arose

murican btw

Right because there are actual motorcycle noobs that would choose an R3 over an R1, if they had the opportunity to get both.

Fuck off, noobs don't know what's better for them simply because, shoking news, they're noobs who have never ridden a fucking motorcycle.
Their opinions can't have any foundation, apart from other people's opinions.

Everyone is better off learning on a 250/300. Every single one.

Did you read what I said? Obviously everyone is better starting off on the smaller displacement bike. But if everyone played it safe and did everything in fear of being hurt you wouldn't even be on your shitty 250 as bikes would undoubtedly be outlawed.

Get the bike you want to get. There is no point in risking your skin every time you hop on your seat if you don't like the bike you're riding. There are always going to be retards who know nothing about bikes jumping on the r1. Those people wouldn't be discussing bikes on dbt though. 600s get a crazy wrap on dbt as being brutal hard to ride jet packs that fling riders off into oblivion with one flick of the wrist, which is far from the truth.
