How realistic is/was Tokyo Drift?

In terms of the car scene in Japan at that time (2006), the drifting, street racing, etc.

When I was in Japan last year I didn't see anything to do with drifting or street racing. I didn't even see a single GTR in Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto.
>>
It wasn't.
>>
>>16836913
it was based of 90's drift culture it was already 6 years behind the curve
>>
The drifting itself was quite on point, even Tsuchiya was one of the stunt drivers.
Street drifting still happens, not inside Tokyo though. Mountain pass racing still is alive and well. Street drifting in Gunma, Osaka, bay areas, small cities, etc. There are lot of instagram pages, though, a lot of these drivers that post footage of themselves are foreigners.
Their cars, usually silvias, look more like drift missiles though.
>>
street racing is dying out. though it is easier to get track time these days.

I was stationed in Japan, in the Kanagawa prefecture just south of Tokyo. Rode my motorcycle up in the mountains to get away and relax. all the good roads had hi vix orange plastic posts down the middle, in the curves.
>>
>does Hollywood give a realistic representation of the reality
You really need to ask this question?
>>
>being able to maintain a conversation while in a car drifting down a mountain pass
>>
Do you think anyone would actually drift through Shibuya?
>>
>>16838183
"Curves" is so uncool, say corner instead.
>>
>>16838212
Or better, apexes
>>
>>16836913

2/10

It had cars in it. That was about it for realism.
>>
>>16838377
no on in F&F movies has a real job. they all drive quarter million dollar custom cars.

I think that's the biggest issue I had with those movies. Even at the start of the races you see them putting up thousands and thousands of dollars to ante and race but what the fuck do they do for that money? And that's not even to mention the 100k dollar cars they were driving

About as realistic as the underground racing scene in FATF.

TD was a weeaboo wish-fulfillment fantasy.

To be fair, the whole point of the first movie was that they were hijacking trucks and stealing the shit inside of them so I guess most of the money was coming from that. Plus that shitty sandwich shop they had too
>>
>>16839089
Judging by the other things happening in the movies: crime.
>>
>>16836913
Japan has turned into a cucked country, it had a serious beta problem that only another nuke can fix
>>
>>16838201
Well, you can't deny that the intersection would be a pretty good place to drift. When nobody is around for the crossing though.
>>
>>16839136

It was 15 grand or more, if they had to, overnight parts from Japan.
>>
>>16838530
Nigga what?

Brian was a cop. The "muh family" gang hijacked and robbed supply trucks filled with electronics and shit, and then proceeded to sell them. Everything after that is done through crime and heists.

The only thing that wasn't explained is how Brian managed to get a GTR in 2F2F after he quit his job.
>>
>>16839136
That was a 355.

>I didn't even see a single GTR in Tokyo

That's because you have to go outside.

When I lived just outside of Tokyo, I would see one once every few days at a minimum. Just walking around my neighborhood, there would be tuned supra's with big ass turbos, and people would go out and light them up down the main road in front of my apartment, er well mansion I guess.

Even in insane tourist areas I'd see tuned WRX's and old skool Evo's. Shit, even the big ass vans would have body kits and exhausts on them. You must not have looked very hard.

Mate, I literally spent 8 hours a day walking around outside for the 30 days I spent in Japan. And not only did I walk around for 8 hours during the day, I also spent 6 hours out at night after taking a couple hours of rest in the afternoon.

And I didn't see a single GTR.

they could have at least waited till he was in Florida. Where car registration is done by private companies and there is a thriving grey market import car business.

instead change it out for a plebeian mitsu lancer

Nice! I took quite a few shots too, I've only seen a handful of AE86s prior to visiting there, so it was pretty cool to be able to look around so many. Damn they've gotten expensive though!
>>
>>16844432
>>16844715
are those prices in hundreds of thousands of yen? because those prices are crazy good, for how clean those old cars are
>>
>>16844903
If they were, I'd have 3 in my driveway right now ha..

Naa, they're in millions, so the one at the front: 2,100,000 JPY = 18,500 USD.

The one further back, 3,800,000 JPY = 33,500 USD.

Very expensive. They were all pretty much mint, the higher priced ones especially were insanely clean for the their age, but yeah that's still a LOT of money.
