No it doesnt, you can just as easily tune a 1.4t and 1.8t to be as fast or faster than a stock GLI.

Have a 2015 Jetta Sport 1.8t and went to the dealer, $600 later ive got another 72 HP and 109 more ft/lbs of torque. Thanks APR tune. There are a lot of guys who get the APR tune and nothing else because its a super easy way to get power for a cheap econobox.

How does the GLI compare to the GTI or a miata or Fiesta ST as far as fun goes?

I've got 20k for a car and am looking at a boxster or older 1 series bmw but may just give up and get a newer GLI or Fiesta ST. I need a fun car though.

You can't really compare a 4 door sporty sedan to a Miata...

One offers practicality while the other is just a pure roadster. Depends on priorities. But the GLI with a tune will rape the Miata in straight line or in the highway.

If I remember correctly the focus ST runs a K03 that's already nearly pushed to its limits. You can do more mod wise with the GLI.

That said, vw underrated that engine. It's more like 225, anyway it's as fast as a 300 horse v6 Mustang so...

I'm sorry but no V6 mustang will do 0-60 in 5.5.... I had a 2013 V6 with the same engine, 93 tune, CAI and 3.73 gears and the best it did was 5.7

Those numbers are cherry picked to all hell. In the real world a GLI would give any V6 mustang a real run for its money. Throw an APR tune on the GLI and it will pull on the mustang.

Get a nice USED GLI for cheap .... get an APR 93 tune and make sure you have some good tires and it will be faster than 300 HP cars. The turbo makes so much mid range power with the tune it's crazy.

I can get a used GLI in my area for around 18k with 20k miles. I might just take your advice.
