Yeah I almost always have it zipped up in my jacket pocket, but I absent mindedly put it in my back pocket after fueling up.

Noticed it was gone 20 minutes later and spent 2 hours searching for it in the dark. Showed up at a police station a month later with all the cards gone except for some business and grocery store cards.

Prolly. Lumens are on a logarithmic scale though, so 7000 lumens is not twice as bright as 3500 lumens, only like an extra 1/4 or something like that.

building off of what >>16822301 said

Once you provide a smooth surface
>rough with 200grit Sandpaper
>wash down and wipe with tack cloth
>prime
>sand down with 500 grit sandpaper until smooth and even
>wash and tack cloth
compressed air > water, but water itself will work, you'll just need to give it more time to dry.
>fairly light coat of paint.
Not enough to create runs, expect to do at least 2 coats.
>Once it dries, rough with 500, wash and tack again and spray some more
>do 3 coats total of paint
>wetsand with 800, 1000, then 2000
>Wash and tack
>Spray clearcoat
>once first coat of clear is tacky, not completely dry, spray another
>3 coats of clear
>sand to desired orange peel using 2000 grit
>buff with leveling compound, then swirl remover
>don't wax it for about a month so the paint has time to cure

Holy fuck thats a lot of god damn work. Ive already put 30 hours into this fucking it up, and i dont know what to do now. Im not paying $400 USD for a new fucking fairing.

Please tell me the fastest way to make this not look like shit (get the glossy black back) so I can sell my bike. I bought 80 grit sanding block but its doing literally fucking nothing on this because the scratches are so deep. I tried to put JB weld in but it just made it worse. What is the easiest god damn way to fix this please lord
>>
>>16822337
Get some filler primer and layer it up, then sand it down.
>>
>>16822337
Wet sand it. It literaly takes like 5 minutes to fix that.

Also pretty much gauranteed it's "calculated lumens" or "estimated lumens" rather than actual measured lumens, meaning it's way off. Also it's in a reflector not made for that type of bulb so the light doesn't get focused. As a result you get a light that is extremely uncomfortable for everyone around but doesn't actually provide better visibility.
>source: I've tried them

>>
>>16822400

>>

You need to wet sand with a flat object or else you will nevee get the scratches out.
>>
>>16822405
Wrap it around the sponge and then sand like that. Don't put a shitload of pressure either, just let it ride along the top.
>>

My buddy had one and let me ride it a bit before he crashed it and sold it.

It's probably the most aggressive cruiser i've ever ridden meaning and you can have some fun on it and corner pretty decently. That being said, it's inferior to the FZ-07 and 09 in just about every way, which is my buddy ended up getting an 07. If you like the cruiser aesthetic then it's a good bike. A little slow but it's fun. I'd get it if I HAD to own a cruiser

So my bike burned today.

I parked at 21:30, went to some neighboring friends (on foot) and came home at 02:00 after a couple of beers. At 5:15, I wake up to sirens and I walk out to the balcony to see the firetruck pulling up and my bike alight in a red blaze.

I live next to a football stadium so it was probably hooliganism, or at least deliberate to some degree. I don't know.

I don't know what to think, and it stills feel like a dream. The reality of the situation will probably hit me in a few hours.

As I said in the title, big shoutout to Honda, as the gastank did not rupture or burn. I had filled it yesterday and a full 16L (4 gallons) of gasoline did not catch fire. At one meter of my bike is a ground-level appartment where an old 80+ couple lives. Literally half a meter. Things would've been bad if it lit up.

Bike was a CB500F, country is Greece.

Insurance has up to 3000€ of fire/act of terrorism coverage. Don't know how slow the process is though, have you guys ever gone through something liken this before?

Does the damage look repairable? I think it looks like 3000€ worth of damage for sure

One more thing: I found it off the stand, like someone kicked it to the side (resting on the metal brace behind it). Either the fireman stood it on the other side or the guy that set it alight kicked it before

No noise reported by neighbors, or anything rowdy.
Also, who the fuck burns a motorcycle at 05:15. This is thief-hour, vandal-hour. I think it was deliberate

Don't think 3000€ is going to cut it, bikes are expensive in Greece. Time to get an older one.
It is a special pain because this bike was the only money I had made myself for two years, and it just burned and melted.

>>16822774
soccer? Yeah

>>16822784
Man as I live in a poor neighborhood I thought of electrical fire as the least likely suspect. I googled around and found very little photos of bikes after electrical fires
Is this something that happens?
If I parked it at 21:30, why did it burn at 05:15?

As I said, 05:15 is also witching hour around here. Thieves come out at that hour. It's too suspicious.

>>16822787
No idea yet, I do have terrorism/fire protection for half the bike's cost but how long do these coverage processes take?

Actually yes. And for under 3000€ if you can wrench yourself. It's gonna be a huge project, though. All metal parts (engine, frame, suspension, steering, wheels, brakes) are reusable after thorough cleaning and a rebuild. If the rubber gaskets around the valve cover and side covers are intact, the engine should work as-is after rewiring and replacing intakes, cooling system, all rubber parts and fuel injection. Oil change is recommended. Frame needs cleaning, repaint and new rubber and plastics. Wheels the same. Suspension and brakes needs rebuild and fluids replaced.

All parts used parts off salvage bikes:
>complete intake and injection ~300€
>computers, sensors and relays ~200-300€
>complete wiring loom ~200€ plus above
>complete fairings and other plastics ~500-700€ (or buy chinese aftermarket)
>instrument cluster and controls ~200-300€
>cooling system plastic parts ~200

As for brand new parts, all gaskets and rubber parts, tires, chain, battery, filters, bulbs.

Plus cleaning and painting supplies.

Government healthcare wouldn't do anything about the overpriced supply chain of doctors anyways

What are you going to do, make medical school cheaper, by slashing salaries for its employees, while demanding they do the same work, so students can pay less, and then tell students that since they paid less, they now get to earn less, while subsidizing additional students to increase competition in medicine and drive prices down even further?

Taxation isn't theft, the university system is theft. The peole who come out of it demanding relatively astronomical earnings in exchange for their "value" is theft, especially since the only thing giving them value is how scarce their skills are, because the education is too expensive.

When you use taxes to pay for the services of the educated on someone else's behalf, america's fucked up tertiary ed system is indirectly ripping off the entire country, as if their textbook price fixing schemes weren't bad enough.

i'm going to drop a bomb on you. having a functional smartphone in america can actually be cheap as all hell.

I grew up in a normal white family. We used the latest and greatest budget android models that could play angry birds at the least with prepaid services like tracfone. We didn't chat on the phone for ten hours at a time and met people face to face for shit like that. The total cost for all five of us? About $200 initially, and then as low as $30 every two months. I'm well off now and I still use prepaid (but with unlocked phones instead of chinkphones) because it's so fucking cheap if you use your phone properly.

The poor people really could stop buying iphones

But usually the "carbs just need cleaning" can be a sign of other problems and they just have NFI. It can also just only need them cleaned too. Mostly its the first scenario.

I'd at least do a compression check, its not hard to wind an odo over to make it have low mileage.

because this bit of the frame here will crush like a coke can if you drop the bike onto a rock or tarmac.

I know because I've seen it happen right in front of me, and if you google this problem you will find a lot of stuff about it on forums, mainly from owners pretending this isn't a problem because of post purchase rationalization.(even from some who have had it happen to them).

I also don't see how it's anything like a sportbike frame because it's not an aluminium twin spar or steel trellis design.

Old mechanic here. You can do it if determined. Fires rarely bother anything beyond the peripheral engine bits they actually melt.

You may be able to get paid and keep the machine if your insurance company will allow you to deduct some trivial amount from the payout and let you keep the bike without changing the title to some salvage nonsense. YMMV since not in US.

Clean it off, take more digital pics than you think you need, then disassemble it trying to keep larger assemblies intact for convenience and hardware inventory. For example remove forks as an assembly. Wrap in plastic to contain dirt.

After completely stripping to the bare frame, degrease it completely then have frame sandblasted. I use monument shops because they use sand blasters to cut letters in gravestones and almost always blast on the side for cash. Paint or have powder coated as you prefer.

The nice thing about restoring bikes is you can often find wrecked organ donors, or if not, use Ebay since prices are often better than commercial salvagers though they also advertise there.

You need a factory service manual. You can find exploded parts views online. I suggest you get on BRAND SPECIFIC forums since you can find shitloads of specific info there and possibly parts. Post your burntpix for sympathy and do a build thread. I fit 1 1/2 Harley Sportsters in my military dorm room locker. If you are determined you can do what countless other bikers have done, and you can become your own mechanic which is fucking insanely wonderful throughout life.

You could use your insurance payoff to buy something cheaper to ride while taking your time with the project. No hurry means better result.

You can have that machine skinned out in a weekend, but don't molest until you get paid and own the wreck. Basically the whole job is an exercise in parts replacement.

Honda already beat that once by builiding Wings (and at least one VTX model) in Marysville, OH. Their US ATV plant makes buckets of money.

Bring on the tariffs! More bikes made in US with Burger optimizations is fine with me.

They are nearly indestructible. I had that exact year and model but in red. I put ~50K miles on it only replacing chain, sprockets and tires. Valve adjustments are very rarely required and since it's a screw and locknut affair, no dealer or box o' shims required as on earlier models.

The carbs are easy to do yourself. Remove and inspect the fuel valve too as they are vacuum operated. You can replace them with a pure manual petcock if want.

Do not run pod filters. Stock airbox works well.

Fountain of knowledge:

http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/index.php

Show up with 900/1K in cash. They aren't particularly valuable because not a meme bike.
>>
>>16823467
Bikes are easier than car carbs and those CVs are simple to do. Vacuum fuel valves often kick owners (and some so-called mechanics) arses when diaphragm fails. Remove, inspect or replace with manual valve, and ensure tank is clean inside.

It's wildly unlikely the odo was tampered with or the rest of the bike would show it, and it doesn't. Looks like typical garage sitter.

Compression tests are a good idea. NEVER jump off a RUNNING car or da tiny bike regulator will an hero trying to regulate the cars output.

Just fucking buy it, then ride it places and take picks that make us wish we had your yes-bike life.

Part of being an effective cruiserCuck is cultivating a sense of your own style. The fact that almost every damn Harley on the road looks the same is a testament to the failure of American CruiserCuckdom. Don't be a fail.

6 year, its an expensive car.
>>
>>16825396
no. But there's really no performance benefit to EFI on the 2 strokes anyway. There were fuel injection on the factory 2 stroke enduro bikes just to cope with the altitude changes.
