Looking at a used '03 4Runner with 100k miles.
Anything in particular I should be wary of when I look at it?
V6 or V8? Frame rust, and leaking shocks, especially if it has X-Reas (basically shocks diagonally across share fluid, expensive as fuck to replace) are good places to start. Hard to check if brake calipers are seized, but if it's got maintenance records, they may have been serviced. It's nearly due for a water pump if it hasn't been done already.

V6
Saw a pretty rusted frame on a 4runner the other day, so definitely will be looking at that. Will check the shocks, calipers, and ask about the water pump.

jw...any specific reason why '03?
Maintenance records
Timing belt replaced
Check shift between hi-lo 4WD
Headers/manifold for cracks
03 gasket issue
Look around the T4R.org forums
make sure it runs

Lowest mileage 4Runner I've found within my budget. Was trying to avoid the early 4th gens.
Clean Carfax with maintenance records, no reported accidents.
Looked at a few 3rd gen 4Runners, but none under 150k miles that weren't complete rust buckets.
Go for '05 or later with the V6 so you get the 5-speed auto instead of the 4-speed.

Is it worth a $2k or 50k mile increase?

It looks like the head gasket issue was much more prominent in the '04-05 models, still exists in '03 but not nearly as widespread.
Assuming no CEL, are there any visual or auditory signs that there's a head gasket problem?
Toyota Tax.
15 years old and 100k miles. That's probably north of $10k.

Stop caring about mileage faggot. You want one with maintenance records that has been owned by middle aged white people
