Anyone here ride a Ural? I am looking into them, but am unsure. I met with two dudes last weekend and rode their bikes, but how bad is the quality assurance on them? I currently own a 2016 TW200, and a 2005 DL1000(that I have put 70k miles on).

As a Russian i tell you that URAL is like everything made in Russia lacks quality on every part that was made here. That's why they put brembo brakes on it. If same engine would have been done by Japs it would be indestructible, but it's made in Russia so expect the worst.

new to me bike has sat for a few months since previous owner rode it. no major problems I've discovered, but today it took a while to start, and would die with any throttle. once I got it going, it would take a second for the throttle to catch up after input, and would randomly idle quite high (~4000rpm) and then back down again.

bike is a 91 cbr250rr. I'm thinking it just needs a carb clean, but if that fails, what should my next course of action be? vacuum leak checks?

Well lots of reviews about Alpinestars, gloves and boots, complain about them falling apart. I'm not too keen on trying my luck.

The color on the Daytona is not that bad and the quality should be far higher. I admit it's not the color I would want, though.

>my bike will slow down much more than yours even at 120kmh

Can you read fuckwit?

The rate at which your bike decelerates from 120km/h is HIGHER than the rate it will decelerate from 60km/h

You're delusional if you think wind resistance isn't a massive factor in this.
>>
>>16781044
I regularly pull the clutch so I can rest my right hand, have had it in neutral too.
My bike has the aerodynamics of a brick wall. I comfortly cruise several km without losing much speed like that. Letting go of the throttle will make me go from 130 to 100 in 1-200m in 6th gear. That is engine braking. I need to switch my brake lights on to warn cars about it, I slow down that fast with engine braking.
>>
>>16781049
Oh and also, post a webm of you on your bike (if you have one) in 5th/6th gear at 50km/h on a moderate downhill and show me how much it slows down from having neutral acceleration.

Pulling clutch/neutral: can cruise along for a while
Letting go of gas: drop speed fairly quick
Not giving gas at idle in 6th: it will still move

So if I'm in 6th gear at speed and I stop giving gas I will slow down until I've reached the idle speed.

You need to learn how to read.

Torque to do what exactly? Ride DOWN HILL at 50km/h? Grow up fuckhead. I can imagine you're the type of person (when you're old enough to get your licence and save your neetbux to buy a car) that puts a far can exhaust on their car and drives around parking lots at 5000rpm in first gear.

>if there are hairpins you WILL ride at 50kmh and will need engine braking if you don't wanna go fast.

Lmao what the fuck are you going on about cunt? The situation has ALWAYS been about a moderate downhill, straight section of road. You're trying to justify riding in 2nd gear at 60km/h and 6000rpm in that situation by bringing up a completely different situation.

So why shouldn't I ride at 6k? From what I can tell the powerband of the SV650 starts between 5k and 6k.

>>16781349
Why would you NEED to ride at 6k rpm while commuting down a straight hill?

Who gives a shit about what the SV one redlines at, you don't own one.

If you cruise at the speed limit downhill or on the flat at high rpm you're retarded.
>>
>>16781349
I'm not the guy you were originally responding to. I have no idea why you shouldn't ride your bike in its power band. I have zero experience with Suzuki bikes though.

This is my bike's factory power band, though it's completely neutered with the stock tune and exhaust. Much better with an ECU flash and upgrades.
>>
>>16781358
> I have no idea why you shouldn't ride your bike in its power band

You're responding to a straw man argument. Nobody is saying to avoid the powerband. However, he's implying that at all times you should be in the lowest gear possible revving the fuck out of your bike while cruising along at 50/60kph for reasons I'm not sure. He mentioned something about hairpins?

Yeah that's crazy. I once had a friend that would ride with riding boots and a jacket and gloves but no helmet just sun glasses like what a faggot it even looks off like huge padded body and a tiny head popping out.

I get that people like the wind and breeze and don't wanna wear a jacket or something but always always always a helmet and gloves too

I'm not complaining about protection here as I don't care about tennis shoes which are less safe than work boots anyways. I'm talking about stereotypes. The people wearing flip flops are the ones taking the bike down to the beach or something prob no helmet either. All over the world people wear flip flops and ride motorcycles.

The people with the work boots almost always have cut off tees in the warmer weather and they are the douchebags of the biking world. They are almost always assholes and almost always have a liter bike because you're a pussy if you don't have one

Where the hell do you live? Keep in mind the exhaust comes with a baffle insert to reduce noise. I'd imagine it'd then comply with noise pollution requirements pretty much everywhere.

the r-77 race series isn't street legal as far as i know (or at least that's what it says on their site) plus i live in fucking california

>>
Alright. I'm mad.

I attempted to adjust the throttle position sensor on my vstrom 1000. I put it in dealer mode, saw the -C00 code was actually _C00 and the line didn't move up til above 2k. I looked up how to adjust the sensor and I either missed or the guide I read omitted the part where you physically rotate the sensor, not just the screw,so I tightened the screw, which was quite loose, and it actually made the code line rise, so I figured i should tighten the bastard more. The screw is a torx tamper resistant one, and soft as hell. Stripped it a bit, so I double checked another guide and got the right info, tried to loosen the thing, and now it's all stripped to hell because I can't get a straight shot at it, the radiator hose is in the way. So, I tried to JB weld a bolt onto it last night, and let it sit over night to harden. Bolt came right off just now. So now, I have a stripped torx security screw covered in jb weld, in a very tight space.

What the fuck do I do?

I'm moving to CA in August/September for a job offer I got. My exhaust had better be allowed or I'm gonna raise hell. I have no idea why it wouldn't be street legal. With the baffle inserted it's not even that loud. Now, without the baffle inserted yes it is very loud and probably not street legal in places that care about that sort of thing.

I think "bred for the racetrack and not for street use" is just marketing, but fuck if I know, I'm not in CA yet.

I don't remember which fender eliminator I got. I bought it on eBay a while ago and I can't remember my eBay password for the life of me.

>>
>>16781826
alright, thanks anon.
you're going to have to check if your exhaust is street legal, i don't believe the yoshi is, quote from their site "RACE SERIES
FOR CLOSED COURSE COMPETITION ONLY;
NOT INTENDED FOR STREET USE." then again it might be marketing because it says "intended"
also if you live in cali you have to find an exhaust that meets CARB emission requirements, and that's nearly fucking impossible, i'm honestly surprised two-stroke dirt bikes are legal at all in cali because the gov here is retarded.
you MIGHT be able to get away with an akrapovic but only if you put the catalytic converter on it which kills performance
>>
>>16781826

I'm losing at least one of those already moving to CA.

>>
>>16781842

bikes need to be over 7.5k or a certain age to be registered in California if out of state. Everyone here in socal has illegal exhausts and >>16781864 what he said is correct. Most cops will let you go with it if you are not a dick. there are occasions where people do get busted and have to throw the stock back on for inspections. ive never heard of a bike actually being smogged. You may be better off buying a bike here and modding it.

What do you mean by this? They need to be over 7.5K miles to be registered if I'm moving from another state? My bike is a 2015 FZ-07 with under 3K miles on it. Are you telling me I could keep my Oregon registration? Tags don't expire until 2019.
>>
>>16781946

Yea it's something like 7.5k. I've talked to a guy with newer cbr which he keeps in az bc of that. You can keep your Oregon registration for now. Just don't get found out your actually living here. If you get pulled over after a year or so with a ca license but an Oregon bike they might get suspicious.

Well as far as I see it you have two options. The easiest one would be to light the bike on fire and claim it was electrical, I suggest running your highbeam wires to the inside of the gas tank so that they arc, then simply start the bike, flip on brights, and poof.

Alternatively, go to a hardware store, buy a new screw with the same thread pattern, and replace it.

I'd recommend the first one.

Because why make money, if you can make even more money?

The XC is targeted at a different, younger, audience.
I see it like this:

The F-series is the baby series, fun for starting riders or people wanting a light BMW.
The S-series is for the younger people with money. Fast and loud.
The R-series is for the old BMW rider. It has the engine they always had, nice and relaxed.
The K-series is for the elderly BMW rider and the proper tourer. Big, heavy sofa's.

As an 1199 owner, I'd pick the ducati. I test rode the S1000RR (2015 model), Yamaha R1 (2015 model), but the Ducati had, in my opinion, the better engine character, sound, and handling. It's also surprisingly roomy for someone like me, at 6'1" tall. Because it's so narrow, it feels a lot smaller and agile than the BMW, and is more comfortable than the R1, which I didn't expect. The fueling is great on the 1199, with just a small flat spot between 4-5000rpm when riding through town, but not noticeable when riding faster, whereas the R1 was a little choppy at several points. The BMW was pretty flawless in terms of fueling/power delivery, but I didn't enjoy how weighty and sluggish-steering it felt in slower corners. It's a monster in a straight line, with great power delivery, but the clocks weren't as good as the Duc or the Yamaha, it doesn't sound great in comparison, and to be honest, I just wasn't excited about the thought of owning one.

I considered the S version, as the suspension is really cool and the LED lights are good, but I really didn't feel enough of a difference between the base model and the S to justify the extra grand or so difference. Instead, I'm gonna use the money to make a couple of trips to the MotoGP in Spain/Italy, or do a couple of trackdays.

Either way, you won't be disappointed, the Duc and the BMW both offer ridiculous acceleration and brutal power, but the looks, character and sound of the V-twin nailed it for me. The traction control is great on both, too, you'd have to be doing something completely stupid to lose grip with either.
