It's an A to B commuter sold to the sort of urbanite scum that likes things "quirky". Remember that there's also a market for Minis.

Basically the first gen was all about looking like the future. Now basically everyone makes EVs that look similar to the base cars.

Also these things don't look that bad in real life.

EV is still niche so they need to make them look "unique" to appeal to buyers who love the smell of their own shit.

the chevy bolt and model 3 will get them more mainstream and then you'll see more ev chassis looking like regular models in their respective brands

Virtue signalling. People rich enough to buy electric cars will want everyone to know that it's electric so that (in the buyer's mind) they can tell that the person driving it is a progressive, forward-thinking, environmentally-conscious paragon.
Cucks will just want it to look unique enough for them to feel smug when they drive it, and if it has to be fugly to accomplish this then so be it.
