buying a heavy spec truck for live bottom and hauling logs. if i hit rock bottom I can always haul reefers, dry vans, flatbeds, etc. 14.6k front 46k rear axles, 18 speed, leaning towards a freightliner classic. Detroit or Cat.
is this a worth while investment? trucking kind of fell in my lap 3 years ago and I'm running with it.
thats a big truck

New can be $150-250k.
Used can be $20k for a real beat to shit one and up.
I'm looking to spend up to $50k on a used heavy spec tractor.
Make sure you get a sliding fifth wheel if you aren't sure what you're hauling, preferably under 42" tall.
An FLD will hold up better than a classic, but a T800 is better suited to offroading. Detroit is going to be your lowest cost of ownership, since the 60 Series had damn near a 20 year run, so they're dirt common and cheap. A 14L will have plenty of grunt offroad stock, but you can bolt on 700+ hp for a few grand with a 12.7L. Definitely want to go pre-EGR, so 2002 and older, but a 1999 or older will get you around the ELD mandate if it isn't repealed.
