OVGT86 kinda feels like a successor to OVG86.
I'm not feeling vallelunga or mugello, but the whole "low power rwd fun car" always brings good and fun racing.

Optional skin pack is on the OVGT86 server. You do not need it to race but those skins have been added for variety.

Anyone here play Midnight Club LA? I can't stop replaying it, it's just so fun and the soundtrack is great and there's so much content. I never see it discussed on /v/, or any other racing game that's not Need for Speed or was released more than a year ago.

>>16756655
>never had a PS3 or X360
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I wanted to play this game ever since it first came out but I never had the opportunity sadly.
The customization options were something I was really interested in and looking back at videos of it nowadays, it's still pretty impressive how this game (which is almost 9 years old) can offer customization that's just as, maybe even more detailed than the latest NFS game.
>>
>>16756677
Why not pick up a ps3 or 360? Easy to find, cheap of course, and has a neat little collection of games that are also cheap. But pick one up before they get into that ps2/xbox territory where the games start being sold for their original retail price or more due to scarcity.

And as for the game itself, yes the customization is really good. It's a fun little arcade-style racer. The only flaw is that the default controls are weird (using the analog stick to accelerate/reverse and the triggers to change gears) but thankfully you can make a custom control set.
>>

Sorry James but I'm not giving you adrevenue. You could've just posted your proof in the thread instead of making me read some article(?) you've written.
>>
>>16756749
Two can play that game
https://pretendracecars.net/2016/11/29/all-possible-simulation-value-the-review-of-brick-rigs/

I'd like to put emphasis on these sentences:
>The Steam store page lists Brick Rigs as a dynamic driving and destruction physics sandbox powered by the Unreal 4 engine
>the game’s physics engine handles your creations quite well. I’m not going to say this is some hidden gem of a simulator, but controlling your vehicle with a standard Xbox 360 pad warrants an experience similar to BeamNG or Rigs of Rods.
>Weight distribution comes into play depending on where you’ve placed each block on your car.
>the damage engine allows you to limp around sans bodywork – running over the various pieces that you’ve left behind on the side of the road
>there are even options to change basic spring settings in the garage menu for that extra bit of mechanical grip.

sounds like good driving physics to me
>>
>>16756749
>this 30min-in-development amateur touge game is shit, so everything is shit
it's a fucking graphics engine, you can even rewrite original physics and collision functions if you feel like it
>>
>>16756763

Quality journalism.

>>16756759
You know ad hominem is an argument based on the targets personal qualities? You calling it an ad hominem makes you self-aware of your credibility.
>>
>>16756749
There's a difference between Milestone and Sector 3 though, Milestone actually made their physics engine and can reasonably port it to UE4 while S3 has been living off ISI's work.

Also, Milestone have said they have been working on UE4 for like two years so unless they're dirty lying loud italians, you can reasonably expect them to have worked out how to make it work as they wish.
>>
>>16756759
Ad hominem isn't always a fallacy. In this case it is a valid argument.
>>
>>16756802

Does anyone know if there's a rip of the fictional sponsor decals from the Need for Speed games (e.g the Touge Union or Noise Bomb decal on this car)? I'd like to do some replicas of some of these liveries, and it would be nice not to have to create the sponsors from scratch.
I know these decals appeared in Pro Street, Shift 2 and NFS 2015 but I haven't found decal rips from any of these games
Did anyone ever try doing that? Is it even possible?

I suppose you can try to use TexMod to dump the texture and rip the logos. I can't remember if these were available in the vinyl editor, or just baked into the default textures though, so you might have to dump a car texture and do some detouring.
>>
>>16757655
Thanks, TexMod sounds neat
I only see people using TexMod with the NFS games developed by Black Box (up to Undercover) but it should work with all DX9 games, right?
Is there maybe an equivalent software that works for DX11 games?
>>
>>16757707
Yeah, should work with all DX9 games. Was widely used in the TDU2 community to put porn on cars.

Also Tomb Raider nude mods.
>>
>>16756768
A lot of people missed the point of the article linked in >>16756749

Injecting your own, scratch-built physics into Unreal 4 isn't something a team of four people (okay, most likely 6 or 7 now) at a brand new studio can pull off in six months like SimBin UK are claiming. It's a job for a Milestone-sized team or bigger - Milestone's transition to UE4 has most likely been several years in the making.

I'll even quote myself from the article:
>The Unreal Engine is almost a closed toolbox of sorts; you simply can’t take part of one game engine, and throw it into another without years upon years of work.

Grats to Ranek for landing his dream job (gee, Nick from the Lego Games who went to Daytona this year, wonder who that could be), but on paper it's really difficult to see how what they're promising to deliver is anything other than wishful thinking.

>>16757052

>>16758230
That's not what you inferred in your article though is it? You suggested that putting a new physics engine in UE4 was nigh on impossible, which we all know is complete bollocks, Epic Games designed the Unreal Engine in such a way that assumed devs would do just that!
You're right about optimisation though, that's a right pain.
>>
>>16758276
I think it's good enough to give a rough idea of what different sway and spring rates do.
I was pretty satisfied with my findings. Then they released 1.11 and it broke the mod.
>>
>>16758285
>You're right about optimisation though, that's a right pain.

My own journey into the unreal forums saw guys struggle to maintain acceptable FPS when lighting a dining room scene. You know, tables, chairs, candles, etc.

So I'm definitely curious to see how this will play out on a 4 mile race track with portable lights everywhere, the sun, headlights/taillights on cars, and reflections out the ass.

Again, not impossible for a big team with lots of specialists, but

>>16758312
That's probably gonna take till next week. I'm unable to use my PC which is actually capable of running games until then. But if I manage to do it, I'll upload a zip on the thread or in the wiki or something

I'll have to use Shift 2, since I don't have NFS 2015 (and TexMod wouldn't work with it anyways) and my disc of Pro Street is broken
>>
>>16758222
Used it for a bit without problem, didn't want to deal with the hassle and ended up getting all the DLC. The Porsche pack is cheap enough still with the "season" pass and so is all the other content together that it was more convenient to buy it than rely on people to upload the content. You can probably wait for a sale on all the DLC butpiece together what you don't have and see how much it comes out to. For me it was a lot cheaper than I expected and I didn't have to have random dlls from russians sitting on my computer.

Not sure why you hold your gears so long. You should be in 4th going into Surtees, hop on the left curb with your tires and straight line through that section with your foot somewhat on the throttle to keep the car balanced. You're choking a lot of time there.

Not sure of the config, but you should probably be shifting as soon as the light turns red or just before.

Shift to 5th for the main straight
go more on the left when you are braking for T1
trail brake to T2. If you do it right, you will be almost flat out 2/3 into the corner(tip: reduce brake pressure to 90% in the setup).
T3 looks fine
Tap the brake to position the car better for the last corner while your about to hit the middle of T4
Wide entry into T5, so you can floor it faster and get more speed.

General tip: Be brave and brake later. You would know you nailed a corner when you go from the brake to the throttle almost immediately, and you hit it in the middle of the corner, instead of going on and off almost from the beggining of the corner.
Here's my line from my PB in the livetiming thingy.

I understand the appeal to GT cars, but I really just want to simulate the fun road cars. Almost every rFactor 2 mod I can find is a GT car, but I've been enjoying the couple mods I've found that fit the bill.

Is there any specific sim better for that? Am I looking in the wrong place for rF2 mods? I need more shitboxes...

Shitboxes don't emulate well in sims aside from AC because low speed simulation is really hard.

is it possible to learn manual from a video game?
>>
>>16763769
You'll be able to learn the very basics but most games don't simulate clutches well at all. That and most Pedals aren't that realistic aswell because they don't have the same kind of resistance
>>
>>16763731
RANWEC still got double figures each race i think, albeit across 3 classes.

Didn't some series get 0 attendance at a race? Or 1 person went on the server then disconnected when he realized no one else was showing up
>>
>>16763769
you'll get right muscle memory, you'll be suprised with how clunky and unevenly/rough are you in real car (and you'll probably struggle to move at first). or maybe you'll learn some bad habits and destroy your real gearbox, or at least burn the clutch. if you really want to do it, LFS is probably the best sim about stalling while trying to run from low rpm, but really, nothing will fully prepare you for real thing.

"learning" manual takes six hours for average dumb european girl who wants to get driving license, it's not rocket science.

How much hype would there be for a not serious toegay thing in AC once a slot pops up?

Minimal mod cars, street only. Races would be balanced via tyre choice preferably. If not we'd have you be out if you crash to try and let people in slower cars have more of a chance, or ballast maybe?

>>16764707
It's very easy with clear braking points and a good collection of fast and slow corners. You can gain lots of time in the final turn and use the downhill to your advantage. There are at least two corners where you can jump the brake markers, and the grass doesn't impart any resistance on the car which will make for some close racing and possibly less crashes.

I saw Ranek at a grocery store outside of the SimBim HQ yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen lego sets in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the boxes and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any simulator infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each box and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

that's not what they mean when people say sims have problems simulating low speeds.
It means that sims using the Pacejka "magic formula" tire model (basically all of them except AC and Live For Speed I think) have issues properly simulating tires that are rotating slowly or not at all.

>Wikipedia: A problem with Pacejka's model is that when implemented into computer code, it doesn't work for low speeds (from around the pit-entry speed), because a velocity term in the denominator makes the formula diverge.

Now the wiki article talks about pit entry speed being the point of mathematical breakdown, but it's not the speed of the car that matters, it's the speed of the wheels because they are rolling. Pit lane speed is variable, and the speed of the wheel varies with size, so a realistically-modelled Twingo for example, let's say in rFactor, will be more accurate than a realistically-modelled Cadillac Escalade at 20 MPH because its smaller-diameter wheels are rotating faster and thus complete the equation at a lower speed than the Escalade on 24s.
iirc some sims have a "low speed tire model" I want to say NR2003 and GPL had something like this that takes over for the magic formula when it becomes ineffective.
