If you just want AWD for the snow you should know that tires are far more important that drivetrain. Also the Golf R has the worst kind of AWD where it just feels FWD most of the time and occasionally sends power to the back.

Well it has a hatch while the WRX doesn't, but is the RS out of the price range? I don't think it has proper AWD and is heavily biased towards FWD if you're OK with that.
