That's pretty fookin' impressive for kit cars. How modern is the design and tech on those Factory 5 kit cars? Are they basically modern racing chassis with a old timey body on top?

>How modern is the design and tech on those Factory 5 kit cars?
Very. They use a program called Solid Works to design the chassis in CAD. The Chassis' are then all welded together on a specially made jig assuring they're all the same.
Are they basically modern racing chassis with a old timey body on top?
Yes and no. They're racing style tube frame chassis' with specific suspension parts from each donor car. Like Their Hot Rod, COupe, and Roadster kits which are based on the Fox/SN95 Mustangs. The kits use the entire live rear axle from the donor cars if you don't opt for the (recent expensive addition) option of the 2015 Mustang IRS..
The 818 kit actually uses the most parts from its donor car, the GD Subaru Impreza. It also uses the steering rack, lower control arms, brakes, hubs, steering wheel, seats, etc among other parts.

sweet all this for the same price as the lambo. If I shill enough motortrend on demand stuff I'll have the money to buy one in no time.

>Old ass Porsche with a bodykit and a naturally aspirated water cooled boat anchor engine
>Same speed as brand new Porsche 911 GT3RS
Production cars just suck. Engineers are cancer.

Engineers are good. Bean counters are the cancer you're talking about. Good for business, bad for cars.
>>
>>16746623
Production cars have to adhere to regulations
Your shit box modified for the track doesn't

Retards who make comparisons between a stripped out track warrior on slicks and brand new street cars are retarded

>implying engineers arent also somehow responsible for fookin' fast tuned cars

Yeah, it's the numbers crunchers' fault that the brand new $120,000 Viper ACR is slower than a FWD shitbox with less aero and the same horsepower

>Retards who make comparisons between a stripped out track warrior on slicks and brand new street cars are retarded
It wasn't on slicks and it literally has more cupholders than it had in 1975. Nice try, though.

The newest Viper ACR just came out last year.

>Street tires
>Full interior
>Boat anchor single cam engine out of an early 90s base model (unmodified)
>No aero that can't be removed from the car and stowed inside the cabin on the way to and from the track
Sorry, what exactly here is more extreme than what manufacturers can do with their trackday specials (ACR, GT3RS, etc)?
>>
>>16746825
So 300k for an uncomfortable shit box that is slower than a luxury 150k acura nsx

Jesus fucking Christ, is this really the state of modern automotive journalism?
