Mustangs and Camaros are capable of low-20s/high teens mpg as long as you drive with fuel efficiency in mind and haven't modded the engines too much.

Some good suggestions in thread but I'll tell you my own experience with my Lexus SC400.

Living in Houston you get a lot of traffic but I still get decent MPG.
In city I'll get 16-18. While on the highway I'll get 23-25 and if I'm driving at a constant rate without any acceleration or deceleration needed I'll get a fixed 27 or 30 at 70MPH.

Pre 98 SC400s will get worse MPGs but the 98+ has VVT-i so it helps a lot in fuel economy and also comes with a 5 speed transmission.
