Still can't guess what speed I'm driving at unless I look down at the speedo. Typically I'm 10 mph over what I think I'm driving at. My car is just too damn smooth.
Anyone here can guess or feel exactly on the dot their speed all the time?
I've been driving for 10 years now and I still find I cant maintain speed without looking at the speedo.
I'll try and keep 120km/h but when I look down like a minute later I'll be doing like 110 or some shit.
My other weird problem is, I cant maintain distances. If I'm following a pack of cars (buddies to a restaurant in an area I don't know) I'll start out at 2-3 car lengths then all of a sudden I've drifted back to like 10+ car lengths. Mainly on the highway though, doesn't happen in the city that much.

What kind of pussy-ass shit is that? Try "ever since I could sit on a lap and hold a steering wheel".

Been drivin' since 5th grade. Can tell EXACTLY what speed I'm at with out lookin'...in fact, I don't even look at all when I'm drivin'. That's how Jedi I am. I get in the car, close my eyes, and when I open them, I am there.

Your mother's husband's lap doesn't count, nor did his special 'gearshifting' training to prepare you for a manual.

eh im 24 and been driving like 8 years, none of my bikes/cars have had a revmeter but i can revmatch and guess my speed by engine noted/gear.
none of them have been smooth, all shitboxes. but yeah newer cars have nvh insuluation, so its pretty hard to tell by feel. go oldschool and get a shitbox from the 80's; strip the sound deadening out, as-much-to straight intake as possible, and straight through exhaust and you can learn it pretty easily.

Depends which car I am driving. My company car is a BMW 535d and it is so refined and quiet it is so easy to end up way over the speed limit without thinking. Especially on the motorway or when overtaking

I can tell because my shitbox is a base 2008 PT Cruiser. It rattles and shakes at different frequencies at different speeds.
Rear wiper vibrates loudly at 35.
Liftgate interior plastics at 45.
Silent at 52-62.
Glovebox door rattles at 65.
Passenger seat shakes at 70.
It's ugly and shitty but I like it and I've put 195k on it, it's like an old friend. Not great on gas (16city 22hwy) but with the rear seats removed you can fit a ton of shit in the back. Moved my entire studio apartment in one trip in that car a few years ago.
Pretty easy to work on if you can get over Chrysler's half-asleep engineering.

Licensed for 6 years, I don't even need my speedo. Seriously. I know just by feel what speeds are in my truck, and it's helpful since the speedo is 5 slow anyways and at 38-51 mph the speedo bounces between 25-55 randomly because old cable.
