So what is stopping someone from mounting a high power invisible beam laser in their car that shines out the grille.
So when taco bell in his broken ass Nissan won't get out of the passing lane, flip it on and set his car on fire.

Is it, dare I say, the perfect crime?
>>
>>16710816
how much power do those things use?
>>
>>16710823
I'm no expert, but the one pictured is a 3w laser, and it will certainly do some damage
>>
>>16710832
>>16710823
There are some 10w ones around, but they're green
>>
>>16710838
10w would surely burn through an abs fuel tank in seconds providing it hits a place high enough that liquid fuel can't dissipate the heat.

But really, I can't see a way for one to get caught doing this unless everyone started doing it. It's just so discreet, even if the car doesn't burn to the ground, it will take weeks of investigation to determine it was a laser. By then there's no way to pin it to you.
>>
Imagine doing this to one specific car, or one specific make. Cause a massive government mandated recall.
>>
>Hit reflective area on body
>Go blind
woooooooow
>>
>>16710925
Just don't do that then.
Can even have a low power red one for aiming.
>>
>>16710816

Taco bell will have one burning a hole through your radiator because you're tailgating.
>>
>>16711180
Well if you go to taco Bell your anus will already be burning so

I guess WAT racing now has a weapons division.

Because of the distance of the target. It would take absurd power to do what you're thinking (I think).

I run a 30 watt engraving laser that will cut many materials but only when the distance is tuned properly and pretty close. Too near or too far and nothing happens.

Maybe a microwave wavelength emitter would be more feasable? The military did one for crowd dispersal called the "active denial system". Who knows what will happen if you focus it at a single point?
>>
>>16710816
You'd have to buy a new radiator each time with that kind of heat, and with the shitty plastic that cars are built with now, good luck doing anything more than putting a big hole in their fender. If you only shot say, 80's model Jeep Grand Wagoneers with the wood on them, then you'd set them on fire.
>>
You would need a laser way more powerful than you can even hope for, OP. And it would need to be constantly focused for the distance you are hoping to burn.

Source: I own a 2w laser

NISSAN MOTORS HAVEN'T CAUGHT FIRE IN YEARS. CAN WE LIVE THAT DOWN ALREADY?

>Fri Sep 9, 2016 | 9:50am EDT: "Nissan Motor Co is recalling about 134,000 late-model cars, mainly in the United States and Canada, because a fluid leak in the braking system could lead to a fire, the company and U.S. regulators said on Friday."

Fuck. Did we learn nothing from the lincoln towncars guys? When are your engineering departments going to talk to each other!

that's why you wear UV-blocking safety goggles

Use the handy hand mirror you have laying in the passenger seat just for this occasion
>>
What about shooting a slug into their petrol tank, massive hole causes all their fuel to leak out quickly and they have to pull over.

I will genuinely put a workable solution on my car.

Just mount a couple paintball guns behind the grill

I think you guys are missing the point op is trying to do this discretely and the driver is gonna know someone shot him hence the Lazer

Why is /o/ so violent? I swear to god you guys are always talking about attacking people and their property.

Yep your R&D is too high on this one. Lasers are not even a deployable weapon for the us federal government yet. But sure, put one on your car.
>>
>>16710816
You sure that isn't a light saber? And if it is, you totally need to mount it to the front of your car.

Americans are unironically this stupid

>So what is stopping someone from mounting a high power invisible beam laser
If you ever get into a car accident, you won't have time to remove that before the car is towed off. Or you might be in the hospital. Meanwhile, inspection of the car shows that it has felony equipment installed and you get convicted of mounting dangerous assault weapon(s) in the car. My state's law will convict you for the crime without needing you to actually use it. The act of equipping the car with the weapon is sufficient for felony conviction.

>You sure that isn't a light saber?
It is possible for a person to economically make an electromagnetically controlled gas jet flame to look like a light saber. And it has damaging properties. That was shown in an early episode of Mythbusters: The Search. And yes, it can be waved around somewhat slowly.

just use transparent balls

lasers that deliver enough power to do that are bright as fuck and damage your eyes by just looking at the dot it projects.

but yeah, go for it

even better, use these bionicle ball launchers. completely silent and don't need to be hooked up to any kind of power source or gas tank
>>
>>16712429
If you have a mechanism to shoot the tank its not going to in other drivers line of sight and the eventual stop of the car will be some way down the road before anything is noticed.

Infrared lasers have very shitty divergence, and they are easily scattered as they travel through various mediums.
