So I'm just getting into cars and I finally have a decent enough income to afford something nice. I love old 60s-70s land yachts and I'm currently looking at a 1970 Eldorado. Gimme some more suggestions, bois
>>
pls respond
>>
70's-80's Lincoln
>>
>>16709188
1970 Eldorado. 472 engine, front wheel drive, AC and power windows standard.
Fucking awesome car. When they were new they were one of the most desirable cars available. Super fast, super powerful, super cool. And since there are not many left they are unique. The rear windows go into the roof, not down. Very cool.
Front wheel drive so no hump in the floor.
Buy it. Buy it and be the only man in your neighborhood.
>>
>>16709879
Don't be a pussy with some small shitty car. I have a 472. Have you ever had one under your foot? It's fucking incredible. It never stops pulling. It's 8.3 liters. It would rip a Toyota or a Mustang in half. Google the torque. It's unheard in today's market.
Black leather seats, two and a half tons of Fuck You.
Nothing like it.
Don't be like everyone else. Be your own man. Google the Cadillac 472 engine and read about how these engines are used in dragsters and huge trucks. Imagine what happens when you put one in a car. It's awesome.
>>
>>16709889
>Don't be a pussy with some small shitty car.

as opposed to a pussy with some big shitty car

the engines are shitty boat anchors and theyre 7.7L not 8.3
>>
>>16709896
No asshole. Apparently math is beyond your reach.
>>
>>16709901
472 = 7.7L
500= 8.2L

youre not right by any means
>>
>>16709896
Loser
>>
>>16709889
>Google the torque
525lb/f holy shit
>>
>>16709902
OP don't listen to this asshole. Get the Eldorado and push the jerk offs in Toyotas and Mercedes off the fucking road into a ditch. Fucking pussies with tiny cars and tiny dicks. Crush them.
>>
>>16709907
gross torque

they make less than 400 by modern standards
>>
375 horsepower stock. Go to the MTS website and get up to 1000 horsepower.
That's right. Up to 1000.
Google MTS. Maximum Torque Specialists. A THOUSAND horsepower is possible with the 472.
Will your car corner? No. Will it stop on a dime? No.
Will you be able to claim ONE THOUSAND HORSEPOWER? Yes.
>>
>>16709916
Go fuck yourself.
>>
>>16709907
>pounds per foot
>>
>>16709916
Oh boo hoo. Fifty pounds in 1970 is really only 40 pounds now. Whaaaa whaaaa
>>
>>16709925
theyre not good engines

cant be helped

>>16709934
>500 cid
>cant even make 400 lb ft

kek
>>
Don't be a sheep OP. Get the Eldorado.
Have more class and more style and more horsepower than ANYONE!!
Have 5,6,7 hundred horsepower. Have a THOUSAND HORSEPOWER. Fuck the weaklings. Be different. Be cool. Get the 472. Don't listen to the tiny dicked losers. Be the man your grandfather wanted you to be. Don't try to impress the douchebags in the tiny imported cars. Be the American. Be the man. Stand alone and tell others to stand somewhere else because they compromise, YOU DO NOT.
>>
>>16709879
>1970 Eldorado. 472 engine

The '70 had the 500ci engine. Only year it made full power. It was actually the most powerful Cadillac ever for over 30 years until CTS-V.
>>
>>16709939
They're used in drag cars you asshole.
>>
>>16709951
Same block. Not much difference. A little more HP.
>>
>>16709952
so are flatheads and single cylinder Briggs and Strattons
>>
Do you know what happens when you press the accelerator on a 472/500?
It pulls. And it pulls. And it keeps on pulling. It's completely different than a smaller motor. It pulls and pulls until YOU let up. It doesn't let up, YOU do. Fucking awesome.
>>
>>16709188

They're super comfy drivers and reasonably valued, but get ready for that 5mpg.
>>
>>16709964
until you hit 4000 and it runs out of steam
>>
472 ENGINES don't care what the temperature is. They don't care if it's hit or cold.
Hills? Who gives a shit. Not the 472. Step on the gas and climb that fucking hill no problem. Tear that hill a new asshole. Even if the AC is on and you're towing a boat. A big boat. So what, it makes no difference. Go 80 miles an hour uphill towing a forty foot boat. No fucking problem. And just pull over to the left and pass that asshole who is in your way, and bring your boat or camper along with you.
>>
>>16709970
Not mine you asshole
>>
>>16709965
You can't put a price on manliness.
If you try to you might as well get a Pinto.
>>
>>16709978
dang does it go to 4200
>>
>>16709981
I have never reached a plateau with mine.
It never stops pulling. Never.
>>
>>16709188
Describe the Eldorado you're thinking about getting
>>
>>16709987
doubt it

these things are pigs
>>
A friend had a clean one back in high school, 1981 or so. Yeah, I'm that old- anyway...

Yeah, they have a bottomless pit of torque, and get about 6 mpg. They are heavy as fuck, so they roll hard when cornering, the nose really dips if you aren't smooth on the brakes.

Kinda cramped engine compartment compared to my Chevelle.

I'd probably have to drive around to find the right parking spot these days- I can't imagine parallel parking one in the city.

On any BPOC type motor I'd be cautious with the redline- they all seem to have weak bottom ends.
>>
The back side windows are so fucking cool. They slide back into the roof instead of going down into the body.
>>
>>16709997
Fuck off. I have one, you don't. I've had one since 1978. I still have one. I've always had one. Fuck you.
>>
>>16710007
take your meds

guess that explains your behavior itt gramps
>>
>>16709188

You should get a newer, safer car for better protection in a potential impact.
>>
>>16709188
That's a nice Caddy.
>>
>>16710011
I will kill you. I will drive my 68 with the 472 into your building and wipe out everything and everyone you love and then I will drive to the beach and have ice cream while you choke on your own fucking tears!
>>
>buying a 70s caddy
So I see you're a connoisseur of pretty turds....

This guy's right. You still see Ford land barges everywhere.

1976 500ci engine made 190hp? Holy kek

190hp from 8.2L

Land boats are awesome, but keep in mind that old caddys didn't share a platform with anything else, so it's either extremely hard to find parts or they're super duper expensive to replace

70s Lincolns on the other hand are just Ford f250s with Lincoln parts and are cheap and easy to replace because of the quantity of old Lincolns on the road too.

Keep that in mind and good luck, brother
>>
>>16709889
>It would rip a Toyota or a Mustang in half.
But you will never use it for such a thing.

>>16709913
>Get the Eldorado and push the jerk offs in Toyotas and Mercedes off the fucking road into a ditch.
And you will never do this either.
>>
>>16710434
How is that even possible? Honest to god, an engine like that should make way more without even trying
>>
>>16710491
Car manufacturers were just hit with massive smog regulations and had to find new and terrible ways to make a 7+ liter engine pass the regulations. It still makes massive torque though.

My 460 only has about 200hp, but it still gets up and goes.
>>
>>16710501
Yeah I know that but I just don't understand how they managed to smother the power so much
>>
>>16710510
They used old technology engines that they already built and threw last minute smog equipment on them and we're forced to massively reduce power to meet the requirements. Engines nowadays are built around reduced smog emissions in the first place.

Sad the smog regulations killed American car innovation
>>
>>16709188

Coupe DeVille Convertible, 67-68.

Nothing else.
>>
>>16710530
>build things the exact same way for decades, only ramping up power through size
>somehow this is innovation
>>
>>16710510

The long stroke and displacement produces torque.
Dished pistons produced low compression ratios.
Retarded cam timing.
2 barrel carburetors.
Smog equipment.

They actually did more harm than good.
It was more about "show us you are trying and put these things on cars" instead of making more efficient engines like we see today.

These things are the greatest all around.

4 door generic sedans (for the most part)
very classic styling, with chrome and sexy lines
large cargo space, and ample passenger room
almost exclusively a RWD V8 Carb'd master race class
comfy interior, designed to be timeless
as long as it's well kept and doesn't look like a beater, it'll demand respect of everyone around you.

I legit can't go pump gas without people approaching me about my ride, and whenever people ride with me, they can't help but comment about how clean it is.

And, I don't even drive anything special.
>>
>>16710704
>large cargo space
Unless you want to transport something more than 16 inches tall. Americans are simply obsessive about sedans.
>>
>>16710709
I can't speak for anyone else, but why wouldn't you at least own a beater truck for hauling shit?

I'm just saying they have great cargo space for generic stuff, not moving a god damn couch, bro.

I'd say I got about a 3 body trunk, maybe 4 if I stack him diagonall ontop the others.
>>
Why are they FWD?

Every additional vehicle accumulates further costs, and often people don't have the space for them.

Why own two cars when there's one that does most of the same things? You can even have them as silly huge barges if you insist. Of course the clamshell wagons aren't a prime example for quality, but in size they're basically unbeatable by anything except extended wheelbase chauffeured Cadillacs.

>>16710739
More interior room.

I have a work truck that gets around 8mpg, and a car that gets 30mpg.If Im driving 25000 miles each year Id be paying ~$14195 in gas to drive the truck or ~$3725 to drive the car the same distance. Since i only NEED the work truck 1-2 days per week i can save 10 grand by having both

I'd call it a shame not really being allowed to tow with cars in the US, but then again you probably think having two vehicles is more practical. Around here it works differently.
>>
>>16710789
I dont tow anything, trailers are actually more expensive to run where I live due to oversize charges on ferries. My truck is a 14 foot 1.5 ton flatdeck.

also i have 5 vehicles, 3 on the road. not sure what accumulating costs you are referring to, if its not a piece of shit and you can turn a wrench they are cheap to maintain.

>need housing situation with that much space to begin with (inb4 hurr durr move into the middle of nowhere)
>purchase price
>registration and insurance unless you want them to be redneck yard ornaments
>exchange parts because everything deteriorates slowly even when it's just standing around, and in some cases BECAUSE it's just standing around
Meanwhile used trailers are like a grand or two, and the only expenses apart from coin change for registration and insurance are probably two/four small tires every X years and keeping an eye on the suspension and brakes.
>>
>>16710829
>need housing situation with that much space to begin with (inb4 hurr durr move into the middle of nowhere)
well I do live in the middle of nowhere, and I wouldnt have it any other way
>purchase price
one time payment, I wait for good deals
>registration and insurance unless you want them to be redneck yard ornaments
~$100/month each, not too bad
>exchange parts because everything deteriorates slowly even when it's just standing around, and in some cases BECAUSE it's just standing around
so it might need a new set of tires, fuel tank, brake lines.. again pretty cheap

$10000/yr saved in gas money could easily pay for all that, probably some upgrades even

Also the difference in ferry fares is nuts
$20 for truck and driver, add $2.50/ft for a trailer comes to $55
>>
>>16710875
Most people don't live on islands. And a trailer is like a hundred bucks a YEAR to register and insurance even here in so-proclaimed cucked Germany for the ten times a year it's needed. And trailers have zero drivetrain and very few electrics in need of maintenance. Overall tenfold simpler than an entire vehicle.
>>
>>16710886
fair enough, good points. if my work didnt require the truck i would probably go for a smaller trailer setup. I still would have mulltiple cars though. my fullsize buick and my lowrider get about the same mileage as the truck and i cant justify driving big blocks full time.
