Texas meet on February 25th. Vote on the time: http://www.strawpoll.me/12207612

>Who?
You; /o/.

(Sponsored by Night Wave: >>16557388)

>What?
A gathering of /o/ users to drive spiritedly together and bring all Texas (and beyond) users together to share in the enthusiasm.

>When?
February 25th. This allows at least one month's worth of notice for the board to prepare and schedule for it. It lands on a Saturday. Time of day to be determined.

>Where?
Widely considered to be the best stretch of driving roads in the state, The Three Twisted Sisters starts in Medina, northwest of San Antonio, and ends in Leakey, and is a 131-mile series of twisty roads.

>Where can I sign up?
Just post in this thread with a picture of the vehicle you'll be bringing, and we'll add you to the roster.

Be sure to download the Zello, a walkie talkie app for road communication and coordination: https://zello.com/texwave

>What can I do/how can I help?
Post suggestions for the meet, if you live nearby or know someone who does, feel free to drive it and scout it out to determine interesting landmarks, regroup points, gas stations, and other things that will help keep the experience smooth.

Report in.

So I've got it down for 2 hours, 130 miles.

Google Maps changes the route slightly when I elect to avoid tolls, does anyone know if there are any tolls out there, or is maps being retarded? I don't see why there would be.

This link should work:

>This route is mainly very twisty passing over large hills and between not many gas stations. This roller coaster ride will no doubt blow you away. The road is not heavily traveled, but beware as sharp turns have certainly taken many down. Also, although the surface is mostly in very good condition, always watch for loose gravel, deer and slow moving locals heading back to their ranch ... often a much slower pace than we're zippin by at.

>This route isn't going to be know for its "Roadside Amenities" as much as it is known for its scenery and road quality. There are some very nice pull-outs, stop and enjoy the long vistas. Gas up in Leakey as there are not too many gas stations to choose from and where there is a very good motorcycle shop. For a refreshing summertime swimming hole try the Frio River. Note: Hwy 16 between Kerrville and Bandera is not for beginners! Due to recent accidents, weekend police patrol has increased a great deal. Hwy 173 may be a better route between Kerrville & Bandera.

Only if you really push the engine and do stupid things... though it doesn't explain all my failures.

first one threw a rod for no reason (that i or 3 other mechanics could tell). I still have the block. Its been 3 years since that rod few out and the only thing ive ever found that might be right was water was in the cylinder but that doesnt make since seeing as the car had been sitting in a garage for 3 days before.

Second dropped a valve on the track at 9500rpm cause WHOOPS mechanical over rev. Purely my fault even though i had done the ap2 retainers that "should' protect to 10k over revs.

I know plenty of S2k's who track with 150k+ miles.

Though 3 days out, I'm worried about participation. Only about a dozen or so people have posted interest, I think the problem is the thread isn't getting enough exposure, or word hasn't gotten out. 72 hours to at least get a roll call.

There just aren't that many of us. Ever since I have been going to DFW meets the most one meet ever had was 7, but that was March of 2015. Since then its usually its only 3-4 of us. Also some people might not want to drive 4+ hours to meet with a bunch of autists.
>>
Have fun anons. Wish I could be there. Next time.
>>
>>16712029
I did enjoy that one meet we had in austin that one time with the 300zx that crashed into the wall.
>>
>>16712029
But I mean, if you're doing a "state" meet, I would figure a neutral ground would be the most balanced proposal, it's not really close to anyone, and I would think if anyone knows the meaning of traveling great distances, it's the largest state in the 48.

I can't make this meet, but I will definitely shoot for the next one. When/where do you think the next one will be?
>>
>>16712602
Depends on what we end up agreeing on at the meet. Hopefully one where the date works for everybody.
>>
>>16712488
At least 10 of them were interested, but the date just didn't end up working out for most schedules.
>>

I'm thinking about going, but my car's in such shit condition I don't know if it'd be realistically better for me to ride passenger with someone. No backup car.
>>
>>16712950
Same case for me, just need to make sure it's running properly this weekend before leaving.
The fuel cost will be a bit high but I haven't been outside the city in a while anyways. It's a three hour trip from Houston which is not so bad.

So far it seems like Bandera Park at 2 PM (though some seem to want 5 PM), and a Mexican restaurant either before or after the park, but before the run.

Also, bring cameras, dash cams, and take pics, videos, thread material.

For something like this you really should have a car charger, not battery packs. This is the one I have, charges really fast with the quick charge 3.0. A phone mount would be a good idea too for maps and the zello app. I always carry extra fluids too so we should be covered there. I also have an extra eurobeat CD if anyone wants to borrow it.

It's a blast. Not exactly a speed demon but it makes all the right noises and feels great to drive. Needs some work though, even if I could afford the gas to take it it's not ready for a road trip. It's been in the family since my uncle ordered it new, my dad got it in 91 and now it's mine. Sat in the garage for a long time and my dad said I could have it if I spent the money on all the parts it needed and got it roadworthy again, so I did. Still needs front struts, a new AC hose, a heater core, the center rear brake line (tried to replace the 35 year old hose and it was frozen to the line), some interior parts, and all the speakers are junk. The rear end needs to be rebuilt, the engine and transmission leak, and the clutch is starting to feel slippy, but an LS swap is in its future which would require a different rear end and transmission anyway so that's fine for now only getting driven once or twice a month.

So how do you guys want to roll this? Obviously I/we want to do spirited driving, but on a 2 hour route I suggest we try to keep the speed consistent so everyone's not tripping over each other.

The only concern I have with having the meet at 4pm is that means we are going to be doing at least part of the run around dusk and the deer in that area are horrendous around that time. If you want to have it later in the afternoon I would suggest 3pm that way we should be done or just about done by the time the deer start roaming around.

If we do the meet at 4pm I almost guaranty someone is going to get a bambi hood ornament

The issue is we are going to have is there is rather large mix of vehicles. There's bound to be a couple of very quick sports cars, a few so so cars, possibly a truck and if anyone shows up on a bike that's going to make things even harder to keep a group together. I would almost say the slowest cars/drivers should be up front and the faster cars/drivers should be in the back. That would at least make sure we all stay more or less grouped up.

>>
>>16723787
I suppose if anyone's so inclined, they can show up early, since I'm sure everyone's arrival time will be different, so long as everyone's gathered by 3-4.

The early ones can find a suitable restaurant around Bandera. We'll keep communications up on Zello to check where everyone's at, and/or post in the thread.
>>
>>16723800
I'll probably be leaving Austin early (like around lunchtime) to avoid shitty IH35 traffic. Guess I can scout out the area beforehand for what restaurants look good. Also because Heracross is a regional pokemon in the johto update of pokemon go and the line is around north san antonio and I want to try to find one while I'm in the area.

Alright you triple, quadruple niggeroids. This is the final plan. If you don't make it in time, if you don't know where to go, if you didn't read this, that is ENTIRELY ON YOU.

We are meeting at Bandera City Park. We'll be starting the run at 4:00, 4:30 the latest. You can afford to be early, anyone can come early. You can't afford to be late.

Anyone coming early is encouraged to find good restaurants for pre-run bantz and eatz. Anyone at the park will probably be part of a photo shoot.

IF YOU DON'T THINK YOU'LL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT ON TIME USE ZELLO OR POST IN THE THREAD.
