I want a 3k Civic like everyone memes about. Hopefully no rice, and manual.
Except there are none for sale near me. Manual, unmolested, 3k (pick two).
What are my alternatives for a shitbox with similar qualities?
Aura integra.
More HP and looks better

Exactly. Similar qualities to a civic. What are the civics qualities?
>cheap
>fun
>economical
>easy to work on
>inexpensive and common parts
>reliable

drive further until you find one. post your local craigslist

not the person you replied to but civic can be very fun. esp the lil 90s hatches. cheap fwd and lightweight, make a great daily but also fun to hoon around.
but they get very expensive quickly like any car.
to have "serious" fun in them youll need serious funDS

A clapped out 1988 323 is better than a 2003 civic

Would it be a mistake to get an 05? Ive read about alot of headgasket and suspension problems

I have a 2001 with the automatic and the transmission is fine. It also got to 240 degrees twice and the head gasket didn't blow.

$3k gets you a pretty nice Suzuki like a Esteem, Aerio or SX4. Just as reliable without the rice tax and parts are cheap. The engines are solid and most have 4 wheel independent suspension.
Manual Honda Civic owner here. I have a question: is it harmful to the car to drive in low gear for extended periods of time? I drive my car in 3drd gear in 60 zones because the manual suggests shifting from third to fourth at 63 km/h zones. Likewise, I stay in 2nd gear if I am driving 40 km/h or under. If there's no traffic, I will go faster than the speed limit (45-50) in third gear but I stay in 2nd gear if I'm going less than 40 km/h. Because I have mainly been doing city driving and haven't gone on the highway, I have rarely gone into 4th gear even though my car is a 5-speed. I know that driving in lower gears wastes a lot of fuel, but does it actually fuck up the car? It's not like I over-rev. Usually I cruise at around 2500 RPM, give or take. I don't upshift unless I'm at 3000 RPM, and I won't upshift even if I do get close to 3000 RPM or more if I know that I will have to slow down and accelerate again soon (again, because I am in traffic).
