So seriously - why do people build kit cars with a Pontiac Fiero?

The entire body will lift off while keeping the mechanicals intact. So swapping the body requires very little mechanical knowledge. Kits are designed specifically for the Fiero frame, so everything fits.
If you want to create a kit car a Fiero is a good base to start with.

The body caries zero load. It literally just bolts off in sections

It's a cheap mid-engine car which means you can make you have a basis for building an original mid-engine car or building replicas of other mid-engine cars.
