How often do you guys squid? If I'm only street riding I just wear normal clothes, gloves, and a helmet

But if I know I'll be on the highway I gear up with an armored jacket
>>
>>16678905
pretty much never. Jacket and kevlar jeans lets a lot of air through. Only thing that gets hot is my feet from the engine spewing hot air into them all day,
>>
>>16678905
I'm lame and ATGATT 99% of the time. Sometimes I won't put riding pants on.
But I'm old and stuck in my ways I guess
>>
>>16678905
If I'm going out just for the reason of riding I go ATGAT.

If I'm headed to work, friends house, restaurant, or whatever I wear my leather jacket, helmet, gloves, and leather boots. All I have to carry around is my helmet with gloves in it then I just take off my leather jacket and hang it on the chair or whatever.

Helmet is the most obnoxious thing to bring around, but at least it's a conversation starter.
>>
>>16678868
just get a shop manual and start learning, motorcycles are dead simple to work on. What kind of bike is it?

I always wear my gloves and boots and obviously helmet is mandatory.
I don't own any riding pants, I just wear my jeans or khakis if I'm working.

Riding jacket if I'm going far, if I'm not I just wear my thick sweater underneath it.

I love this fucking jacket but I need something cooler for the summer.

I'm thinking of getting a CB500F.
I don't like the reduced fairings.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a very popular/common motorcycle so I can't find pictures of it unfaired

I was speaking to a dealership guy the other day and he said it would be possible to remove them, but it would look weird because it would expose stuff not necessarily designed to be seen.

how viable is his remark?

Start with the easy stuff, check condition of your battery and check it is charging properly, check condition of air filter and fuel filter and consider trying a MAF cleaner, make sure any sensors are plugged in properly.
If you can check compression it might be worth a look but IMO it's unlikely and would show itself when riding normally, as would a faulty fuel pump.

My bet is on the battery or its charging systems.

Yeah I've been getting all the mechanical and electrical bits sorted out and I think it's about ready to ride now. Did a valve adjustment on it last weekend. I just need to put the fairings back on and figure out how to fit these little spare chink turn signals I have onto the bike and I'll be ready to go by the time it's warm enough to regularly ride it.

What work does the ZX need now?

Carbs need a rebuild. They're Keihin FCRs, so rebuild kits for all 4 are kinda pricey. Needs new chain and sprocket. New battery. New valve cover gasket (and possibly head gasket). New plastics (fairings came blowing off the side at 150mph, cracked, old plastics). New airfilter. Lots of little stuff.
Probably going to just put it up for sale for $800 as is and see if anyone bites. That's 4 months worth of payments on the CBR

some people spend $4000+ a year on music lessons and shit that their kids will never get anything out of, rings that cost as much as used civics, and supposedly amazing 500 calorie plates of expertly baked potatoes.

>>16680823
music lessons teach kids how to learn skills, in particular, about improving and honing your skills through concentrated practice, research and reflection.

Teaching myself music was how I learned how to learn other things, I just took it with the same attitude I did to music.

In motorcycling for example people are atrocious at actually practicing, they don't "do their scales" to use the music analogy, but you can improve your riding so much more through deliberate practice and it's worrying how few riders actually do that.

Saving up to buy a new 1000cc atm senpai. Tbh I couldn't care less about muh depreciation. Personally I think that you should only really care about that if you are the type of person that buys a new bike every year. If you plan on actually keeping your new bike for a long time (why wouldn't you if you like it?) then fuck depreciation. Having a new bike feels fantastic. You know that no-one has ever done any ghetto repairs to it, its been looked after properly, you know how its been ridden etc etc.
>>
>>16680874
Yeah, sometimes

Other times kids just don't give a fuck or they learn how to play their favorite songs and that's it, and once the lessons stop they never bother again. There are so many other ways to help a child grow up that don't cost money. Music lessons should really be reserved for children that already show an interest and are starting to teach themselves music, rather than being something kids just learn because the parents can afford it and they're going to have a proper educaation gosh darnit.

If you are unlucky enough to have kids it's better to save your money for the motorcycle if music lessons would be a waste. Kid asks anyways? Give them a $100 old half-sized church piano and give it a quick tune yourself. If they can't teach themselves twinkle twinkle and some basic theory in that time you can sell it for $150.

I took a 1 lane right hand turn at 40mph today. I don't really know what else I could do to "master" the daily commute when my bike is aerodynamically locked at like 100mph. I don't want to learn to do wheelies or anything blatantly dangerous/illegal, but I can split comfortably at high speeds.

On one hand I want a bigger bike, but on the other hand I really like my SV and it's small enough to keep me out of trouble.

Fz6 fairings are good, I used to own one. no wind hits your body or arms. Get a taller windscreen and it won't hit you at all, except maybe your pinky fingers.

Could not out an fz6 with taller windscreen, heated grips, hand guards, and it would still be cheaper than a strom and have more power.

the style and grace of a fairingless SV650 is like visual sex, every time i hop on my bike it's as if the very soul of aethetics is giving me cummies

look at that headlight, that naught little windscreen. so tiny, so cute, so devilish. the little blinkers, how quickly they flash when engaged, it sends a jolt of pleasure into the rider every time.

the scintillating taper from the tank to the rear of the bike, like an athletic and fertile woman. ESPECIALLY the gas tank, the way one straddles it whilst cornering is how wars were spawned.

even down to the lowly footpegs, and the strong, brawny springs that keep them proudly to the sides, though imbuing them with the grace to gently fold closed when they need to, with reassuring and gentle pressures to return to their fully exposed state

my love for the SV650 borders on the divine. i have felt the gaze of christ, and it was SV650.

No, women do like bikes. It won't take you from a 2/10 to an 8/10, but it will take you from a 6/10 to an 8/10.

Women see a guy who rides as having a bit more confidence, a bit more balls to sort of roll his own way. Motorcycles have been associated with giving zero fucks since fucks were invented.

I was behind a big cross country bus for like a minute in traffic and some Jay Walker told me it was really bad for me to stay behind the bus. was he right

Dunno, some dude yelled at me for filtering...

>>16681326
and all the guys will comment on how good your bike looks.
>>

RIP
>>
>>16681410
yeah you could inhale diesel fumes or something
but really I'd only be worried about being flattened against the bus by an inattentive driver behind you, or not being seen by the bus and having it back up into you. try to stay out of the blind spot and you'd probably be alright, keep your distance and look for escape routes to the sides

on the other hand some people get mad if you filter but fuck it, if you have to do it, for your own safety, go for it. watch royaljordanian how he squeezes past buses, slow and steady

on a similar note whenever I'm stopped in traffic or at a light I'm always tapping my rear brake to flash my lights while watching my mirrors, I've seen too many videos of oblivious drivers just plowing into bikers. it's fucking retarded.
>>
>>16681326
Riding a motorcycle should make you feel like a badass which gives you confidence that makes women become even more attracted to you.

>>16681410
Yes, you cannot see what's ahead and drivers cannot see you.
>>
>>16681690
>Riding a motorcycle should make you feel like a badass
>full leather protective gear with armoured padding and solid helmet
Try riding a bicycle in traffic wearing nothing but lycra and a polystyrene helmet.

>gas power
>man power
pick the manliest one
>>
>>16681701
Unless you are neil armstrong I don't think women give a single fuck about bicycle riders.
>>
>>16681701
To be honest that makes me feel like a prey animal. Unless the weather's shitty, then I feel like a badass.
>>
In all honesty; what's the likelihood of a new rider dropping their bike? Give a percentage.

I plan on getting my motorbike licence soon and want to keep my first bike as a commuter when/if I upgrade later to a sportsbike or whatever. So for that reason I want something new so I can run-in the engine smoothly and look after it from day one. Plus I like the idea of keeping my first bike forever.

But if it's likely that I'll drop it then I should probably get some cheap crap to learn on and buy something new when I upgrade, selling the cheap crap at that time.

Obviously I understand that if I'm careful then I'll never drop it, but I'm a cyclist and before I used clipless pedals everybody said that I'll fall over at least once but I thought "not me because I'll be careful". But, yeah, I fell.

So is dropping your first motorbike simply something that everybody does?

And how much more sex should I expect to get when I ride a motorcycle?

Will report back later..

Is this bizzarro world? In here everyone an their mother have a scooter.
>>16678905
Right now I don't have pants and boots but if I go outside the city I'd never squid. When I just go somewhere close I'd use the jacket and gloves only, can't take the pants or boots off when you arrive at the cinema or something.
>>
>>16681735
It happens hopefully its not any serious damage.
If you have a dualsport/supermoto it's pretty much expected that you'll drop it.

I've been riding for 5 years, the only time I ever dropped it was the 5th month I was riding a car cut me off and I locked the front brake.
>>
>>16678905
Mostly textile jacket, riding gloves and helmet then just jeans and normal shoes. Occasionally no jacket and just a t-shirt cause its hot in Australia
>>
>>16681735
Go too fast in a turn
Hit a pothole
make a sharp turn over gravel/sand
jam the brakes too hard
Do a stoppie and fail at it
Do a wheelie and fail at it
Forget to put the kickstand down

There's a number of ways to drop a bike, and you will, eventually.
>>
>>16681749
Good info, thanx!

I plan on getting a Yamaha MT-03, which has ABS as standard, so locking up the front wheel shouldn't be a concern (theoretically). To be desu I'm more worried about dropping it in a car park or a slow roundabout or in my garage.

>>16681760
>just use common sense and don't be a hoon, you'll be fine
Got it, thanx.

Buying new is retarded unless you buy something like a Tamburini or a Bimota. Not like you're gonna find one used.
Really, how stupid do you have to be to buy a new gixxer, R1, Fireblade etc.? The second you ride out the dealer it's worth 50% less.
>>
>>16681763
all it takes is a small gravel/sand spill patch in a turn & that's it; you might literally die
>>
What's the highest speed you reached outside the highway?

Yesterday I did 150kmh and then stopped pushing because I was almost blown away by the wind.

ok poorfag

You must be retarded. In the way you forget to take off the disk lock.

Like 135kph because the bike only goes to 160 and I don't want to do 1.5x the speed limit for like a minute to get there.
>>
>>16681268
thats a nice exhaust tip you have there

would be a shame if someone scraped it off

Mfw never been on the highway with my bike. Good ol eastern europe. Anyway, 185km/h on a pretty bumpy road.

Why the fuck am I even supposed to not use a track glove on the street? I have skinny little plain leather gloves and I can't do shit with them on anyways, unless it's going to keep me from pressing turn signals properly I can't see what difference it would make.

Don't worry I wasn't going to.
Haven't installed new sprocket yet kek.
Actually decided to just swap the front from a 16 to a 15, that'll be here Monday and won't require a new chain.
>>
>>16681833
I don't understand these phrases.
I wear Dainese Carbon Cover gauntlets every day and they're fine, but my next pair will be a little less hard for slightly more comfort.
>>
>>16681877
do you use gearingcommander?
I'm thinking of a 44 in the back and 15, 13 fronts to swap out. Not looking to split a new-ish motor for ACT
>>
>>16681883
I have used it.
I crossed the country with 15/44 on my DRZ. I wasn't comfortable cruising over 60mph. I'm just as comfortable cruising at 72ish with 15/39. Can you even run a 13? At some point the chain starts contacting the swingarm.
What kind of riding do you want to be able to do?
>>
>>16678905
when i ride my 50cc monkey bike i only wear helmet+gloves because it goes like what max 55kmh and you are allowed to ride it on sidewalks

then again i dont ride my 600cc honda without gear, ever, also i dont take passengers without full gear'

also when i commute to work at mornings and its kinda dark i wear high viz vest
>>
>>16681908
that site may have told you what +6 would do to the chain tension.

I used 15/47 last year and it's a bit low for single track. the trails are 70 miles away, so being able to switch fronts when I get there would be ideal
>>
>>16681933
Switch fronts? You don't use a lock washer then?
If 47 is lower than you need just go 44 everywhere. 15/44 is stock E gearing I think. Power mods should make the highway easier to deal with.

I meant too tall for singletrack, my bad. I have a lock washer...does it have to be replaced every time I remove it?

15/44 is S, 14/47 is E. 1T front = 3T rear, so my thinking was 15 and 13 fronts would allow E and S gearing without removing the wheel or changing chains

>Power mods
maybe a little, gearing is still most of the problem.
>>
>>16681966
then you should have no trouble sourcing it.

yes, it's even more retarded than I'd hoped.

>Marquez is the real danger, Vinales is strong on one lap then falls"

vinales has been doing great race simulations.
>>
>>16681983
>falls
That's not what he's saying.
At the end of the day these two teenagers can barely keep up with a 40 year old.
Such amazing talent lmao!
>>
>>16681992
maverick vinales' 101st and last lap of the day was a 1:28.558, faster than anything rossi did on any day of the test and he did very consistent and very fast race simulations, so I don't know what he could mean that would make sense.
