Why the FUCK are modern trucks so damn big? They're all huge! The even the """"small"""" trucks now are larger than most full sized trucks from years past. Why doesn't anyone make a small car sized truck anymore? Those are the most useful for everyone who isn't driving around a construction site or some other bullshit

CAFE emissions/fuel standard laws in 2012 base everything on wheelbase. The formula skews it so larger trucks can get away with more.

Now you know.

That way it'd have to adhere to very strict emissions regulations, which are pretty much impossible for trucks to meet.
Make it bigger, and you can guzzle gas all you want.

No profit margin, doesn't impress your neighbors, they'd have to give it a more powerful engine to do truck things, lowering mpg.

I don't think bigger equals safer. I think bigger cars have the potential to be safer, but judging by the latest crash tests by the IIHS, more sedans score highest in front crashes than pickups.

This is, of course, relative safety. The IIHS has yet to release a video showing a low scoring pickup crashing into a high scoring sedan, and somehow I think they never will.

I like boxy S10s. My family has/had an '84 as the "family truck" since before I was born. It now sits with a dying transmission because I'm not living close enough to put serious effort into saving it.

IMO the 80's boxy-truck aesthetic is one of the very few design styles of the 80's I like, and is my second favorite overall car/truck look behind 50's trucks.

I just bought a new F-250. It's my daily driver. 90% of the time I don't tow anything and am the only occupant. The other 10% of the time I'm either towing something large, carrying something large in the bed, or carrying passengers and small stuff in the bed. I paid for luxury 90% of the time and actual truck use 10% the time. If I had gotten a non-truck I'd lose 10% of my usage and not be happy. If I'd gotten a smaller truck I'd lose 1% usage and not be happy.

I get the ability to use it as a truck and comfort driving daily for the same price as an F-150. Just worse gas mileage. Smaller "reliable, work" trucks are for poorfags with no credit or reliable income or vices that can't afford both comfort AND work capabilities.

Every in the Rockies has a supercrew F150 with a bed too short for even a manlet to lay down in. You are confusing "work" in the literal job sense with "work" in the truck sense. My truck works if I'm using it to do its intended purpose. A mexican yard workers truck IS NOT WORKING if he's out landscaping outside the vehicle.

>>
>>16677917
Pic is a really good example, actually.

They're not really any bigger than older trucks, but they use these huge grills and body panels to make them look way bigger than they are. Me and my brother have been talking about how ridiculously big grills have been getting every year.

I wanted to make a concept car that was just a frame with four wheels, and a massive grill with a wind sail behind it for propulsion.
>>
>>16682469
What were you watching? The only F150 commercials I see are always full of offroading and hauling capabilities. The Silverado commercials are just those stupid "not real actors" talking about how much they love Chevy vehicles.

Haul HVAC equipment to job sites daily (everything from your furnace and outdoor unit to trailer'd package units weighing in at well >1000lbs, lifted via crane). You're just not gonna cut it with a Jetta, trying to convince them to quit buying gas powered 2500HD's and go TD because we wear these trucks out in <4 years.

Daily an s13, do have a truck as a reliable trailer/parts run/backup vehicle though. They're just convenient.

I noticed this years ago. My dad had a 95 or a 96 F150 with the straight 6 that he bought brand new, then ten years later got an F150 Lariat. Bed and cab sizes aside, we all noticed that the new F150 dwarfed the 96. A month later, my uncle stops by in his 94 F250, and I realized that the 06 was roughly the same size.

Also kind of sad that trucks with smaller engines aren't available anymore. I don't think the Colarados or even the Tacomas come with anything less than a V6.

I had chrome bumpers before. Shit looked good and the stupid fucks who drive with their brights on would blind themselves when they pulled up behind me.

I think the low weight ratings for US vehicles (including tow ratings of almost zero on modern passenger cars) also has to do with the low level of driver education there. I wouldn't trust an American to tow a trailer weighing as much as his car either.

They swapped drivers. The older challenger was still faster.
You can even see on the second pass the older challenger had a hiccup in the gears and it was still faster.

Because as we were battling the Nazis in Africa Henry Ford declared that America would get the shit Ranger for fighting our liberators of the Jewish World Regime.

The ICE could be a small I3 like the 1KR-FE, the battery wouldn´t even have to be big and the electric motors are cheap anyway.
Also you would save a shitload of fuel.

Also hybrids and people who drive them are faggots

In germany we have insane safety standarts, and stuff like pic related is completely legal and safe.
But we have a maximum speed for towing, wich is 100km/h or 62mph.

Pic related carries a plane.
>>
>>16693728
Because almost only small cuckboxes and supercars get hybrid drivetrains.
>>
>>16693729
are you sure it's a plane or just a glider?
>>
>>16693736
It is a glider, but I think it is a two seater with like 18m wingspan.

It's really not that bad. Tow vehicle must have a GVWR under 3.5 tonnes and be equipped with ABS, trailer must have tires rated for 120 kph, and depending on whether or not the trailer is braked and equipped with an anti-sway system, there's a weight ratio between maximum trailer rating and tow vehicle curb weight that must be kept. 0.3 for unbraked trailers, 1.1 for braked trailers, 1.2 for braked trailers with an anti-sway coupling.

That's not even a fucking thing any more. Getting rid of that isn't going make small trucks take over the marketplace. People like big trucks that's why they out-sell small trucks. Just like why double cheeseburgers out-sell single cheeseburgers, You get more bang for the buck.

It's the dumbass rig pigs that finance all their toys then get laid off. A lot of them make $300k + a year yet have nothing to their name.

Smart people have all their toys paid for and enough money in the bank to to live off for a while if shit goes bad. Which isn't that hard when you're pulling in $200k a year.

I don't need to read because I own a 90s ranger and you're full of shit. It's got 155k miles and doesn't burn any oil, has perfectly adequate power for a 90s truck, all the electronics still work and there are hardly any in the first place. This thing gets flogged on camping trips regularly and doesn't skip a beat.

i have a single cab and don't understand why so many of you want one. modern ones are cramped and terrible compared to old trucks. i can understand the big coziness of the older ones but holy shit i hate my life having to drive that thing any sort of long distance which i usually do once or twice a month. i'm trading it for a crew cab for this specific reason.

>>16693729
How do engines not grenade under those circumstances? Or is it understood in europe that when you abuse a motor like that it will only last 4 years?

RAMs are the best example of the truck being all out of proportion. They are massive-looking, and not in the good way.

The current models look fat, bloated, lumpy.

A truck should look muscular, sturdy like mine pic related. Not obese and flabby.
>>
>>16698141
That generation's a pain in the ass to change the oil on though. They're so gigantic that I can barely reach the dipstick since the engine is really low compared to the height of the fenders, and the filter is a massive pain to get to on the ecoboost versions. Can't stand working on them. Chebbies are 9000 times easier.

They kind of look like those buttons you have to push hard and right in the center before they register.

I call them bubble buttons.
