>>

I remember getting so fucking mad at it over a race where you had to drive against mclaren F1's for 20 fucking laps or some massive number like that.

>>
I find Juiced 2 a very enjoyable, as it has great car selection, probably better then most NFS do and a very nice feel to customization. The biggest flaw of Juiced 2 would be that it really starts dragging out and nothing really changed up in the higher leagues.

I recently replayed both Underground, Underground 2 and Most Wanted.
I have to admit I have no nostalgia for UG2 as my PC I had as a kid made UG2 unplayable, yet ran MW at 15 fps or so.
With this out of the way,
UG2 is probably the most overrated of NFS games. It is tedious and highly repetitive, as well as lacking in an engaging plot structure.
Underground was linear, but had a sense of progression and a very clear goal.
Most Wanted had an even cleared goal and more engaging progression with the Blacklist, giving a sense of achievement.

UG2 lacks this minor detail that makes a major impact. The events lack any character, the progression after the first "chapter" just becomes a grind(Do 30 races, do 3 sponsor events , win 7 tournaments, rice up your ride to whore it out to 3 DVD covers).
The first URL(Tournament) event has the same descriptions as the last
>Hey bro, this is the big leagues, if you don't prove yourself now, its over
Even though I had already dominated 20 previous events. The big bad guy shows up for one event where you do 5 laps and that is it, Game over, good job.
The customization of cars, while "better" than UG, feels less rewarding and more show for the sake of show.

If had to rank second gen NFS games, I would say
Most Wanted > Pro Street >= Underground > UG2 >= Carbon

High Stakes still king baby.

Inb4 >NASCAR
For 2003 this game had a dam good physics engine, and it still holds up quite well today. AI is a bit weird at times and graphics are dated, but the cars drive with almost perfect accuracy, real driver's used this game to practice for upcoming races, a driver won at Pocono his first time there because of this game
Unfortunately EA bought NASCAR license exclusively so this game was only sold for a few months. It's also easy as fuck to mod and you can make this game fun as shit in like 30 seconds by making cars go stupid fast and stuff like that.
If you're looking for a new racing sim I highly recommend this hidden gem

It's actually a pretty good simcade racer with a really cool and unique selection of tracks.

I see people complain about the physics on this game a lot and I don't know why, it replicates the feel of riding a motorcycle on track (which I've done) quite well, you have to trailbrake right to the apex if you want to go fast (but can lowside if you go too hard), you can spin it up (or highside) on the exit and if you enter the corner wrong your exit will be all wrong...just like real motorcycles.

Seriously though, video games actually are for degenerates.

And what's even more pathetic is playing video games that are simulations of real life things. People who play shit like NBA, FIFA, and Forza/GT/NFS are the most pathetic of all gamers. Instead of going out and actually playing basketball, soccer, or driving a car, they're at home playing video games pretending to do those things.

It's embarrassing.

There was the McLaren F1 invitational tournament over 7 races, or what you are most likely thinking of is the GTR LM 10-lap endurance race on the longest course, which takes about 30 minutes to complete with AI that can easily catch up and rape you at the slightest mistake. That race was a shitter.

Hot Pursuit was really successful sequel. It was a real example of how to properly remake an old classic like that Hot Pursuit from late 90s. Without any customization whatsoever, besides color switch, it was "empty" and "full" game at the same time. Its something thats mashed up with NFS and TDU. Im one of those guys "muh old nfs fast n furiouz! Muh riced civic!1", but damn I enjoyed 2010 Hot Pursuit. The trailer EA released at the time was fucking mind blowing. Watching trailer at 1080p with those outstandigly superb natural and at the same time juicy colours made me wonder if I watch CGI based movie or is it a video game in the end of the day. Whats more exciting, they didnt lie about graphics (lookin at you watch dogs). We got what we saw. And on top of that, devs managed to make it run on low spec PCs offering great visuals. The world scenery is as amazing as GTA5. Cop chases were amazing. Racer/cop switch was something really groundbreaking. Sadly its not that challenging and rather short game story. This was the game they tried and they succeeded. I know we didnt get catchy nigga hip hop and rap like we did in MW, UG/2, but that main OST was pretty badass. But hey, cant blame trendy music genres, now its even worse with trap music and whatnot
>>
>>16675969
UG2 is all about atmosphere, anon. They wouldnt even release Underground series if not Fast and Furious franchise. Repetitive? Maybe, but the atmosphere is so unique paired with nice bass blasting tracks, i dont even pay attention to something else. It had progression tho, you start with shitty civic/golf and work your way up. What i disliked about career is the fact that you can jump from tier 1 cars to tier 4 with amount of money. I mean i just finished few races with one car and then i have an ability to switch to like 10 new cars. Also, being able to progress to 100% with shitty civic is bullshit, they needed to cap power of cars.
>>
>>16684680
With UG2 you had to unlock the higher tier cars by completing either the URL races or completing a stage of the game.

You're right. I wasn't speedrunning UG2, but it seemed too fast for me. I mean, let me grind my old-ass Golf for good amount of time. I didn't even made a full tune of it and I have already a choice to buy Supra. Who the hell wouldnt pick a Supra over Golf?

What I really hate in nowadays racing games is the fact that you start your races with premium/exotics/hyper or supercars. I mean, what the hell. I know I won't be able to even test drive one of hunders Ferraris in real life and arcade game won't really give me any feels or emotions of driving. So, I guess, no purpose to include exotics. I love simplicity, just like UG/2 had.

Driv3r had a way better aesthetic and handling model than any comparable game at the time. Play it back-to-back with GTAIV and its pretty obvious that Rockstar was smart enough to be taking notes on what Driver did well even when everyone was calling the game trash.

Just bought physical CD copies of Underground and Underground 2 (both for PC). Haven't ripped protective layer yet. Untouched, unopened. Back of case says something about Need for Speed website with ending ".co.uk". I guess that's UK version, eh. Not perfect, but great enough. Retailer said they don't ship US products here. Wanted US release so bad, shiiiiit.

Thinking about buying Most Wanted 2005 as well. Any thoughts? For now, I plan on keeping just UG, UG2 and MW'05 copies. But I'm not sure if its okay to pay 15 european shekels for single Most Wanted. Considering new 2012 Most Wanted is around 20 euros lmao.

I always hated how you couldn't buy new cars in career mode in U2 - I mean you could replace your car and lose all upgades of the car and you couldn't earn more money after finishing career so it was pointless and could screw your career up

the U1 trade-in system was more retarded but better because it allowed you to retain your car upgrades without screwing up your entire career

Most Wanted system was the best imo and was as de facto Underground 3 the best and most polished game

This

>>16676772

You shut your whore mouth.
>>
>>16690250
The game would be great if the driving wasn't ass. Seriously, it's the worst driving I've ever seen in a racing game. Literally everything is amazing BUT the fucking driving itself.
>>
>>16690025
To all its own, but I prefer UG2's slower sense of speed.

Atmosphere was better in UG2 for me. Felt American and Japanese at the same time. Night city is fucking amazing. Those lights are so fucking funky, damn I enjoyed it.
>>
>>16690341
How tf can you prefer a slower sense of speed, that makes no sense

UG1 actually had a realistic sense of speed, 200 MPH felt like 200 MPH and was unbelievably fast, in other racers you would have to be going like 500 mph to get that sense of speed
>>
>>16689413
pc games arent region locked, so why does it matter

>>16689719
>ug2 has no atmosphere
yeah, cruising in free roam around jackson heights blasting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VAF-4Er7_A totally lacks atmosphere
i doubt you played either when they were fresh releases
>>
>>16690404
I played UG1 on release and UG2 much later, but that's irrelevant because the atmosphere is different for both games

It sure sounds like you're confusing atmosphere for nostalgia, though
>>
>dat detective movie atmosphere
>dat absolutely sublime car selection
>dat ease of shifting between vehicles
>dat immense number of racing and stunt challenges and dares
>dem classic movie car chase special missions
And last but not least
>dat licensed hard rock, electro, soul and funk soundtrack
>>
>>16690404
>arent region locked
They dont, but theyre different. The cars in the beggining vary. UK got a corsa and no civic. While US had civic and lacked corsa. I dont remember quite good right now.
>>
>>16690413
>It sure sounds like you're confusing atmosphere for nostalgia, though
No that would be you,
>I played UG1 on release and UG2 much later

deal with it

>>16685086
Basically glorified Mario Kart though.

Also why do people always get so defensive about Burnout Revenge and Takedown as soon as someone mentions Paradise?
>>
>>16690448
No it's not. The first game in any series (or in this case, new era) always tries its hardest to push the feel and atmosphere of the game. The second game polishes up the first, but always lacks in atmosphere. This is the case for basically any game series.

Bet you're a west coast fag, too.
>>
>>16690448
This.

UG city felt small (because it was) and also because lack of free roaming. On top of that it felt empty. No random doods in their riced boxes to randomly meet.
>>
>>16690448
UG2 completely went overboard on the gaudy rice shitfest and the only benefit it holds over UG is the free roam.
>>
>>16690457
>why do people always get so defensive about Revenge and Takedown as soon as someone mentions Paradise
Because Paradise sucks compared to those two, especially Takedown. It feels empty.
>>
MTA (GTA SA multiplayer) is god tier arcade racing, no real cars, no real tracks (100+ community made tracks on race servers), but still hella fun, until you start to git gud and it gets really frustating when some faggot rams you.
>>
>>16690480
Not really, also dat dynamic damage.
>>
>>16690486
The open-world and the Not Midnight Club style races were no fun; there wasn't that element of learning a circuit and it's shortcuts and where you could get takedowns and shit.
>>
>>16690478
And even free roam is subjective, because it wastes time taking away from actual racing as you tediously drive from race to race or shop to shop.
>>
>>16690499
>he doesn't like roaming around in games just to take in the atmosphere and pretend you actually own the car
>>
>>16690499
Actually, its a very good way for a player get to know a map. It also disconnects you from direct racing and lets you enjoy rolling through city while enjoying the stunning sight. I liked that. Its like youre actually driving to a meetup
>>
>>16690478
>UG2 completely went overboard on the gaudy rice shitfest
has nothing to do with atmosphere, deal with it

>>16690462
>The second game polishes up the first, but always lacks in atmosphere. This is the case for basically any game series
cool facts bro

>>16690499
FREE ROAM IS LITERALLY THE REASON UG2 IS SO MORE ATMOSPHERIC
SEE WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT, FUCKING EXPLORE THE ENTIRE MAP! NOT JUST STARE AT CARDBOARD WALL TEXTURES AND WALLED OFF STREETS WHILE FOLLOWING A LINEAR ROUTE
holy fuck
>>
>>16690525
Of course it does. If I have to race around in a fucking Lincoln Navigator with a two-part hood and 200 lbs worth of subs to progress the game it completely kills all immersion.

>>
>>16690585
>They go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other
You are confusing immersion with realism, which doesnt exist in need for fucking speed.

>not having a show car for photo shoots AND a separate race car
Yeah you really know how to immerse yourself in a street racing game
>>
>>16690601
Your first point makes no sense, first of all. Second of all, they actually need to be the same unless you want to waste an additional hundred grand because many photo shoots/DVD covers are time trials.
>>
>>16690610
>they actually need to be the same
If you are a mega shit driver sure

stay upset that ug2 is more atmospheric than ug
>>
>>16690601

Mandatory rice photoshoots in NFS are on the same level as the mandatory bowling and dating missions in GTA IV.
>>
>>16690621
The game is balanced around having a 600 HP car do the time trial, not a 100 hp one, so don't even give me that shit. Your bait is terrible.

Driv3r was the very first game I got for my PS2 because I used to like Driver 1. It was a fun game and I liked it a lot, but once you got out of a car, it was horrible. Also, compared to GTA, the cities felt dead.
>>
>>16679778
I fucking loved everything about that game. Only hand I ever fully completed, 102% even.

>not beating game while using Logitec Driving Force
Force feedback was pretty good in that game on that wheel. S-chassis you could let go of the wheel and sanpatsu the fuck out of it and the 86 you could chuck like a motherfucker. For a kinda-assisted drift arcade-y game it was actually rather realistic in some aspects.

>sanpatsu
someones paying attention to his noriyaro eh..

i wish i had a wheel for the game honestly. i breezed through the career with Kuroi's coupe (the 750ps one in the pic) and ended up leaving my PS2 on for 2 days to get up to 50 on Survival and unlock all the cars. I gave up at 55 because I was tired of playing at that point.

But yeah, the handling characteristics of the cars are genuinely really impressive for the game. The rotary cars have a fucked powerband even, and you certainly have to chuck the fucking hell out of the 86's to get that 175ps doing anything. Fuck man, I love this game so much. I could ramble for hours about it.
>>
>>16693032
His car was too nose heavy for me. Seems like they were trying a little too hard to make that car act different from the standard silvia.
And you got me, only vlog that's worth watching. When Naoki came stateside I heard some Australian photographer was following him, was disappointed when it wasn't Alexi. The cunt that they shipped over couldn't stop complaining about automotive weeaboos and americans cannot into drift. Then some nigger had to drive his point home by stealing hoodpins off Naoki's car.
>>
>>16692880
there wernt any cops until the third game
>>
>>16693075
I liked the nose heavy feel personally, always was easy to get the back end out at Irwindale for me.
And not like its a bad thing, I've been lurking his blog since I was in high school. I've spoke to Alexi a few times, super super nice guy. Genuinely appreciates his fans.

Also, I never realized how fucked Super D really was. I know a lot of the Final Bout and Super D kids are just stancefags evolved into drift shitters and weeaboos but fucks sake. I'm not sure whats worse anymore, wanna be Formula D shitheads with iron block LS engines and shoddy tube fronts or scene kids with Duraflex bodykits and rebarreled [insert whatever Work wheel here] from VRwheels pretending they're street drifting legends for doing a few donuts in a wet parking lot. Sheesh, the scene has gone to Hell, and drifting was already shitty lmfao.
>>
>>16693075

>his car is only a $5k SR build!

>>
>>16693091
There are still some cool drivers out there. And Final Bout/Super D guys are alright. Well, I dont have anything against Animal Style but there's alot of ego on that side of things. Most pro-am drivers are either making a full FD tryhard effort or are completely stoned. I'd say its getting better slowly
>>
>>16693127
Oh man, Bro-Am guys are real fucking serious, especially up here. I almost feel like the egos amongst those guys is worse. One of my closest buddies is about to drive in Pro2 this year and just listening to him complain about it has steered me away from even wanting to fuck around in Grassroots. Whats your local track man? You definitely know your shit lol

ah for sure! i drive out at Monroe in Washington. and I'm sure that'll come up.. wouldn't be the first to come out of EVD to not qualify.. we've got some alright drivers coming from up here but we'll have to see what happens next season right?
>>
>>16692695
I love NFS PS, I think it hits the sweet spot between being a serious sim and an arcade racer, and the tuning is awesome. The only thing that I dislike about it are the bonus cards you get for winning/dominating a raceday, they introduce some unwanted RNG to the game.
>>
>>16693173
Nice! Never driven evergreen, heard it grips hard because its coarse..? Sonoma is like driving on snot, but t-hill west is god-tier for drifting. More events than just GGD need to be ran out there, they made it more technical than the old track for bikefags I guess, but parts of it feel like touge, then the main turn is like an onramp imo.

yeah, Evergreen is super super grippy unless its wet out. The 3/8 bank is basically an on-ramp and the rest of it is just a bunch of different infield tech course styles. They implemented a cageless tandem layout a year or so ago which is nice, but to really have any fun up here you definitely need a good cage. if you're ever up here for some reason and see an autist in a widebody grey s13 hatch dont be shy hahaha
