Was looking on craigslist for old shitty civics and came across this 04 with a fucking shifter in the dash. What in the fuck is going on here? I never knew you could even do that. Whats next a shifter in the seat?
The dash is an amazing place for the shifter, is just so natural and easier to reach.

that entire generation had that.
also in a lot of commercial vans you'll see the shifter in the dash nowadays.

That's fucking ugly

Beware, the USDM EP3 Civic hatch (as in OP's pic) did not have real VTEC and had the shitty K20a3 engine. It's not terrible but it sure ain't a K20a2.
I had a K20a3-equipped 5-speed RSX back in '05-'07. It ran low-16s stock, I eventually modded it to 15.4 sec but still - not terribly exciting when on a FWD car.

>not real vtec
Literally says I-VTEC on the valve cover you FUCK
>>16671394
>couldn't even be assed to vaccuum the carpet and wipe down the dash before taking a picture
Literally what did this seller mean by this?

Under 2200 rpm, this engine is a effectively a 12 valve engine, and over 2200 rpm it is a 16 valve. There is no VTEC mechanism on the K20A3 exhaust valves.
Basically, this head does not breath well compared to the K20A2. It seems designed for low end torque, emissions and economy.
The K20A2 head uses three cams per pair of inlet valves on both the exhaust and inlet. The low lift cams on this head are probably very similar to the high lift cams on the K20A3. The high lift cams engage at 5800 rpm and disengage at 5600 rpm.

Why does it say ivtec then? I don't understand.
If it's a 12 valve that means it's getting good gas mileage

RegularBro?

VTEC is just their buzzword for any type of variable valve timing mechanism. Honda has many different types (mostly eco-oriented), but the original 3-lobe high-lift ~5500-rpm one is the "real" VTEC.
It's hard to accept, but Honda has been tricking consumers for years.
Here, have a pic of my former RSX back in 2006.
