The only thing american cars have going for them in the USA is that they are cheaper than their german competitors and bigger than their japanese competitors.
Everywhere else, the import costs make them too expensive to be interesting since similarly-priced alternatives will be of much better quality.
For fuck's sake it should tell you something that the only american brand that does well outside of north-America is Buick thanks to locally-built and designed cars tailor-made for the chinese market.

Oh no, Toyota makes good full-sized cars too. The Avalon is a very plush car for the price, but the Impala is the best non-sports-car/SUV that GM makes and they can be had for insanely cheap prices as fleet vehicles, hence why it's more popular here.

If the French are clever, they buy Opel and reform it to become "their" BMW.

Despite what /o/ thinks normies all over the world still get wet by terms like "German car" or "German engineering.

Get them to produce some German performance cars overseen by Peugeot but engineered in Germany that are on one hand something new because Opel wasn't that much of a player as brand in the world market but on the other hand something traditional since Opel has been around for ages and if they release a GT or even MANTA the shit would be lit.

I guess that's why Mercedes and BMW both outsell their american competitors in luxury saloon (both have more than twide the sales of Cadillac, and let's not even talk about Lincoln).
Main reason why they are not better grounded in the american market is that they do not develop models for that market. they managed to take over that one spot but they haven't tried to, for instance, tap into pick-up trucks like the japanese have. And I'd say that's their loss really.
>Did you see the audi commercial
Made by the american branch of Audi, for american TV. Never aired in Europe, was never intended to. You have no one to blame for that but your country and how it allowed that sort of bulshit platform to prosper based on lies and wishful thinking.
>>16667219
>they buy Opel and reform it to become "their" BMW.
Impossible.
BMW have brand recognition more than anything, which allows them to get away with some pretty sub-par stuff every now and then. Opel/Vauxhall has decades of stigma and very negative image behind them. Hell their best bet is to use it to churn out some crapy stuff to little production cost. if they want to have "their BMW" then it would be less risky to revive names like Simca or Panhard, and that should tell you something.
>>
>>16667273

now you've said it. they should be sold to GE. with their r&d quality would improve dramatically, along with efficiency.

one guess of mine.. I think they might use Opel to reach markets peugeot isn't available yet. so maybe the madmen actually go to the us or china with them.

but the real question is how much GM will leave in there before selling opel.
if they keep all the good shit, for what fucking purpose would peugeot want them. the good shit is the only interesting part, like development bureaus, patents etc but I doubt GM will just hand them over, that's unlikely as fuck.

man, what if they actually start selling opel to the chinese by straight up telling them, you know these buicks you love so much? here's the original. enjoy this german engineering, xoxo PSA

but yeah, a fleeced opel may actually face the danger of folding, and their main markets including germany wouldn't accept rebranded peugeots, especially not since they gained so much more traction as a brand over the last few years with some actually good cars

I'm a die hard GM fan but holy shit niggers what have you been doing the past 13+ years. Oldsmobile, Saturn, Pontiac, Hummer (good riddance), Holden at the end of this year, and now Opel.

All of this happening, by the way, while GM unveils "Avenir," a new sub-brand of Buick, the mouth that sucks ChYNA's dick.

Wait, so if they use Opel to sell to the Chinese and establish it as a sort of entry-level German luxury brand, could that mean we're getting fullsize barges à la Omega again?

And by extension, and this is more wishful thinking on my part than anything, if we're getting another Omega, maybe they could make it RWD and sell it in Australia as a proper Commodore successor as an extra slap in GM's face.

General Motors are shooting themselves in the foot. Cutting Saab off is one thing, Saab never offered much to GM's Sarlacc Pit apart from a fancy badge and heritage. But selling Opel away like it's the family silver?

If Opel goes, so does Britain's Vauxhall and half of the range of Australia's Holden and China's Buick. Do you really think that they will be willing to share their toys with the Frenchies? Or even vice versa? Nah. Just nah.

Despite the fat Yanks recent history:
>16 continuous loss-making years
Opel, and by extension Vauxhall, have a near-century of history and heritage so Peugeot would be nuts to do anything rash with them. Reinvention would be the best bet for them.

GM thinks Europe is a deadweight and are hoping that the People's Republic will keep them afloat until the next bailout...

>>16672004
Even a fucking turbo I4 would be enough, you can swap it any day

An even clearer sign they couldn't compete is when their company went completely bankrupt. They never should have been bailed out by the government.

I've spotted a surprising amount of these in yurop, they were sold at Opel dealerships iirc.

Holden gives Vauxhall the Monaro or the GTS or whatever it's called nowadays but they don't give it to Opel?

Damn, that's cold...

An Omega with an LS was in developement but was written off due a bad transmission flex plate, GM was too greedy to invent a stronger one
>>
>>16672031
It was even more of a dick move to give Pontiac the GTO (the Monaro's LHD version) but Opel still got denied.

Opel and Vauxhall did get the VX220/Speedster which the US never got, and Opel got the GT/Saturn Sky which wasn't made in RHD so Vauxhall and Holden never got that.

Unfortunately, that's like getting the ingredients for an amazing steak and kidney pie but you end up giving someone the pastry, someone the steak and someone the kidney.

If all three cars were offered in GM's different market could have made a bomb but nah. Someone likes eating pastry so screw it, why not?

neither of the big 3 have given a fuck about burgers for the past decade.

Ford because they are in full globalist shill mode, trying to force european tastes onto Americans, with their "one ford" meme, GM because they went bankrupt and had to follow what the Obama told them to, (more globalism) and Chrysler is just basically Fiat now anyway, (so european)

Nope.

>The reasons for cancelling production plans were concerns about whether the engine was vollgasfest (German, "Full throttle resistant") - the engine might overheat and be damaged if driven flat out on the Autobahn for long periods of time, although Holden equipped its Commodore (which was a re-engineered Omega for Australian market) with the same engine. A version of this platform was used for the Holden Monaro which was marketed in the US as the fourth generation Pontiac GTO and in the UK as the Vauxhall Monaro.

>implying this is bait
>implying it isnt true

Ford themselves came up with the "one ford" marketing term, which was an effort to reduce regional differences and just sell the same models everywhere.

>the engine might overheat and be damaged if driven flat out on the Autobahn for long periods of time

So they were afraid the engine wasn't good enough but the australians put it in there anyway?
>>
>>16672515
More like they were afraid the cooling system wouldn't be able to handle it and the Australians put the engine in there anyway and upgraded the cooling system in the process.
>>

"Als wir mit dem Motor fertig waren, lief er perfekt", sagt Matthias Schollmaier. "Aber da erwies sich die Automatik als zu schwach: Bei Dauerbelastung von 6000 Touren flog die Verbindung von Wandler und Kurbelwelle, die sogenannte Flexplate, auseinander. Runterschalten bei hohen Drehzahlen ging auch nicht. Das Getriebe war für Amerika gebaut, nicht für deutsche Autobahnen. "

"When we were done with the Engine everything worked perfectly. Only when driven constantly at 6000 RPMs the connection bewtween transmission and driveshaft, called Flexplate. The Engine wasn't made for German teritory"

Now fuck off, the cooling was revised and worked fine.

Well, gotta hand it to the strayans. they didn't just give up and say "cannot be done" like the germans did ironically.

Nope. That's what they're advertising.

There's a reason I refuse to buy french, and it's because they're so far off the pulse they're risking sexual harassment.

Ford builds in europe, rather than imports to.
Ford America cars would not stand up to the european market or road conditions.
