Can you guys recommend me a good long lasting tool kit for simple home car repairs like oil changes, headlight replacements, etc etc. ?

The chrome on the cheap stuff with flake off and the metal will rust but if your low on cash they will work just the same. Dont buy a cheap socket wrench though.

Princess Auto if youre Canadian or Harbor Freight if youre from the US for 95% of it
i was a mechanic for years and 95% of my tools were no name Chinese from Princess Auto or Canadian Tire 80% off tools, in the 5 years i was a mechanic i broke 1 socket, 2 ratchets, a few U joints from abuse with an air gun, and a couple random other tools. thats it, the rest still work. tools are 1/5 the price of Snap-on and the guys i worked with that used Snap-on had their stuff break more than mine often
only things i didnt go cheap were air gun, air ratchet, fine tip pliers for clips, and ratcheting wrenches. those 4 are worth going big name for
