Why are there no direct competitors to the WRX in its price range?
>4 doors
>awd
>turbo

all rivals are either fwd, NA, or just plain underpowered shit
>>
Because almost everyone who wants that sort of car will probably get a WRX

And the rest are in Europe
>>
Because people who are so poor they have to buy the regular WRX have to give a shit about fuel economy, which FWD better delivers.

Because sport compact cars are dying.

Everyone wants CUVs and electric/hybrids.

In 10 years there won't be any affordable driver's cars other than the Miata and WRX.
>>
>>16657463
reread the steaming pile of refuse you just wrote. It was an incoherent mess of words that actually made zero sense. Consider suicide
>>
>>16657440
Most people who want cars like that are kids in their teens and twenties who don't have $30k+ to spend on the car and $300/mo for insurance. This is also why people are still asking $15k for beat to shit used models. Used ones are in high demand because the people who want them are willing to spend $12k on a car but not $35k for a new one.

That being said, I'm not sure how the 370z isn't discontinued. Probably why they haven't really changed the design in years. They aren't making any profit on the model so they aren't trying to dump more into R&D for a new one.

Going to have to agree with the other anon. You have a point, but your language skills are garbage.
>>
>>16657463
This is pretty much it. Who needs an AWD Turbo sedan down South? Not many people.

Up North people need them but the value of living sucks, jobs don't pay well, people are broke. So... most people buy any FWD car they can afford via payments.
>>
>>16657523
Affordable and WRX shouldn't go in the same sentence.

Also if you aren't a pretentious twat, who cares about electric/hybrids? Most people can't afford them and they aren't really efficient.
>>
>>16657714
>but the value of living sucks, jobs don't pay well, people are broke
Speak for the south when you say that shit.
>>
>>16657744
Lived in both North and South. South is way more rich. Where are some of the most run down cities? Chicago, Detroit, Gary, St. Louis, etc etc all up North.
>>
>>16657633
Well you're dumb. The WRX has the new FA20DIT. You know, the 2.0 liter engine? The STI still has the old EJ25.
>>
>>16657440

Spend the extra 5 grand and get a low end Audi or equivalent.
>>
>>16657770
North Star State representing. Don't lump us in with getto shit. The south has some nog utopia cities as well.
>>
>>16657790
and that "new" WRX engine has 60 less HP and 75 less ft-lbs of torque than the f150
>>
>>16657971
And weighs 180 pounds less, and isn't attached to a 2wd cuckmobile.

You realize there's more to a car than raw engine specs, right? Right??
>>
>>16658002
if you care to actually read the post I was replying to, the poster was promoting the engine
>>
>>16658012
And why wouldn't he? Are you going to continue to insist the F-150 is better because it has a heavier engine with marginally better performance, mounted to a truck that will be slower anyways?
>>
>>16657907
>tfw have driven both (current gen A3 2.0T Quattro)
>tfw like the WRX's driving dynamics more

its even bigger inside
>>
>>16658300
Drove an sti, 335xi, and A4. Bought the A4 even though it was the slowest of the bunch because it did everything else so much better. Wrx feels like a plastic kids toy compared to an A4.

Admittedly the A3 is a bit cheap though and has the fake fwd "quattro" so I can see where you're coming from. I probably would have gone with a wrx over an A3 as well.
>>
>>16658421

Well the problem is that the STi is the wrong car to cross-shop against a 335xi and A4, lol.

That's part of the problem for the STi - it's stuck in the $40-45k purgatory of not being quite extreme/halo enough to really compete against the 55-60k+ performance machines (M2, M3, Corvette, etc.) while not being luxurious or refined enough to compete with similarly priced or cheaper sports sedans/sports coupes on daily driving comfort.

There are like two tiny ass markets that the STi appeals to:

1. People who just like the idea of driving an STi and will deal with the bullshit just to drive one (a lot of young tech dudes and kids who can't really afford one)

2. People who actually go to rally-cross events and snow-cross events in the North - and a bunch of these dues would rather buy an older Subaru to fuck around with on the courses rather than sink 40-45 grand down a riverbank.

In any case, we're talking about the WRX here which firmly in the $25-30k range - right where you find your V6 econo-sedans.

The WRX does everything you need without much frippery that /o/ constantly complains about. Fun as fuck for a daily driver, simple and really useful controls (good ol' 3 knobs), BMW-like fishbowl visibility, compact car that somehow manages to be fairly cavernous inside, 268hp and close to as much torque with a twin-scroll turbo, 6-speed standard, AWD that you doesn't have any competition until you're dropping almost twice as much on a nice Audi with "real" quattro. The alternatives are V6 versions of the industry main-stays (Camry, Accord, Altima), GTI, Focus ST, the V6 Charger... all of which make performance sacrifices in one way or another.
>>
>>16657735
25k is affordable for a new performance car anon.
>>
>>16658421
The funny thing is, the STI will hold its value waaaay better than your Audi. In 10 years your a4 will only be worth 10k.
>>
Because the people that "need" AWD in a commuter are also people that feel they "need" the high seating position of a SUV to feel safe.
>>
>>16657440
because vape
>>
>>16657714
Nonsense. The car is super overvalued in southern california and it sure as hell is not because they need the awd in winter.
>>
>>16658583
you have made the smartest post here.
The only real problem that the STi has right now is the engine it's running itself, the EJ25 is very old and is running older tech. It's still electronically injected, if it was upgraded and was made with modern tech I don't think it would be in the slump that it's in.
>>
I can still walk into my closest mitsubishi dealer and drive off in a brand new 2015 EVO GSR for less than 30k kek
>>
I thought lancers were the competition?
>>
>>16657440
White on white looks like shit
>>
>>16657440
Because Subaru is the only manufacturer that puts AWD on literally every fucking car except that BRZ

Even the sedans, all their sedans have it its nuts.

the only one that rivaled them until recently was Mitsubishi with the Lancer and Lancer Evolution but since they've discontinued them theres no competitor in these fields.

The only other makers I can think of that come close to it as having AWD sedans is BMW and mercedes but some of them can be much much more expensive and they're not always sporty or in manual transmissions
>>
>>16661652
they don't make them anymore
>>
>>16658583
>The alternatives are V6 versions of the industry main-stays (Camry, Accord, Altima), GTI, Focus ST, the V6 Charger... all of which make performance sacrifices in one way or another.
Theres a v6 AWD camry, accord, or altima?

Tell that to all the idiots here who bought the Impreza WRX and the EVO VIII when they were first released here.

I swear to christ why doesn't Honda just give their accord AWD like holy fuck I don't wanna pay Acura prices just to get AWD on a sedan

thats all I want! I want an AWD sedan in manual. Only Subaru and BMW to an extent does this and I don't wanna pay BMW prices as much as I don't wanna pay Acura prices
>>
>>16658583
Lol wat how does the STI compete with the M2/M3/M4/Corvette?
I like subies but you should not be delusional
It maybe competes with the 335i or 240i, not M models
>>
I worked on a 2015 ford fusion 2.0L ecoboost awd the other day at my shop.
>>
>>16662225
I agree, the wrx and sti more compete with the 328i and the 335i respectively

Like I said, driving like a grandma

They really need to make a turbo Crosstrek. This thing would be perfect with a bit more power. I'd be willing to give up a couple mpg, but I'm not willing to give up the ground clearance.
>>
>>16664529
>stay off the boost
So basically as long as you're fine with a car with 40kw weighing 200-300kg more than a fwd econobox, the fuel economy is merely average.

Cool.
>>
>>16664558
I'm pretty happy owning a car that can get decent fuel economy when I need it and can still be fun and quick in the hills.
>>
>>16664594
And i'm happy owning a car that can come onto boost and still not do shit mileage
>>
>>16664616

>Boost

Prison guards, fire fighters, and cops who do early retirement at 48 years old because they got an "owie" on the job, buy the shit out of these things. They go after all of the fine sloares from their youth that finally can afford to stay home while their husband works, then they take them out to Home Depot to help them pick out a new bathroom counter top, and then take gem home and fuck their dad's bed.

Hes saying because of its price range and where it is that it lives in a sort of purgatory, since it DOESN'T compete with those cars, and it isnt a "luxury" sedan. Reread his post
