What is a 'true' sports car? Is there a minimum hp they need?
a car designed for sport at the expense of practicality and utility.
in the age of google threads like this don't need to exist

>performance at high speeds

I've always thought of it as a car that's built with "fun to drive" as it's first priority. Whether that's top speed, handling, or "feel" differs from car to car.

It has to have two things to be a sports car.
>Over 250HP
>Over 250FT-LB
If it has those, it's a sports car. If not, it's a hairdresser's car for women and people afraid of going fast.

So your bus is a sports car now?
>>16630702
Hot hatches can be fun to drive but aren't really sports cars

Nothing, because meaning is subjective, and subjectivity has no objective truth.

So a lotus 7 / caterham 7 isn't a sports car despite unbelievable handling and making it to 60 in less than 4 seconds.?
>>16631060
The likes of a Caterham R400 has less than 250hp, and I guranfuckingtee it's a better sports car than 90% of the alternatives
If the car is build for a competitive spec it's a sports car.

If you want to be technical, it should be a power/weight threshhold, not just power
Also torque doesn't matter
>>16631060
by your retarded definition this is a sport car
>>16631180
>power/weight threshhold
things like the more powerful versions of >>16631314 would still be classified as sport cars by this definition
i think a sports car needs some element of impracticality to be defined as such.

So Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, and Caterpillar make sports cars?
>>16631060
Literally hang yourself. Fast in a straight line isn't automatically fun, and fast in a straight line isn't automatically quick.

If only.. massive torque inline turbodiesel in a two seater
