guys, listen, listen guys, what if, what if the cam shafts are

guys,
listen,
listen guys,
what if,
what if the cam shafts are turned with electric motors.
brb, patenting this shit.
>>
for what benefit? I don't think you understand how engines work anon
>>
>motor stops working
>valve through piston
shit idea
>>
>>16629847
>electric motor fails
>timing gets knocked out of whack
>piston knocks valves out of whack
>goodbye engine

What if we used smaller combustion engines to turn the camshafts?
>>
>>16629867
y-your serpentine belt can snap too.
>>
>>16629873
Add ALL the points of failure!
>>
What if we hire a guy to run the cams with his drill?
>>
>>16629847
Why not remove the cams all together?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZWeNPi2XkE
>>
>>16629883
It better be a Chinese kid. I don't want 100+ pounds over the front wheels
>>
>>16629876
Memery aside, gears and belts are fixed. They won't go out of spec (much). Adding separate electric motors would require very precise control, and more potential points of failure than even an Audi-tier chain setup.
>>
>>16629878
>add starter motors to camshaft motors in case they shut off while driving
>starter motors are even smaller combustion engines
>>
>>16629888
I have a feeling freevalve will actually show up in the market about a year after half the cars are electric.

>>16629876
>cams
>belt
kek nice, get that engine out of a cracker jack box
>>
>>16629888
vaporware.
>>
>>16629897
>>16629905
Yeah, I don't think its going to see any mass production phase. Sadly.
>>
>>16629897
>>16629905
>>16629933
They're doing stuff with the chinks, so hope might not be lost yet.

>>
>remove valve springs
>connect the valve to the cam lobe like a con rod connects to a crank.
>suddenly the shitty resitance from the springs is gone.
>>
>>16629950
enjoy your broken valve rods.
>>
anyone have any idea how to make ICE magically efficient?
>>
>>16629873
Now we're talking
>>
Free valves are a thing already. Koenigsegg have pneumatic spring valves engines that use the pressure of air and oil to push and retreat the valves.
>>
>>16629950
The valves (intake for example) need to be closed for 3 cycles and open for one. A reciprocating crank would open and close them continuously without letting them seal for the compression stroke.
>>
>>16630005
Nope. Gas engines are going to be stuck around 30-40% thermal efficiency (I think Toyota got one to high thirties n/a) and I'm fine with my carbureted small block being way worse than that.
>>
>>16630029
why not use electromagnets?
>>
fuck timing belts

fuck timing chains.

into the trash they go.
>>
>>16630065

Having a bunch of tattoo guns moving the valves kind of makes sense.
>>
>>16629873
WHERE DO I BUY THIS
>>
>>16630080
Fuck yeah, timing gears ftw.
>>
>>16630065
This could work, but it will make the car even heavier.

Make it bigger. This engine can get a little over 50% thermal efficiency.

LET'S MAKE LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELECTRONIC. FUCK IT. WANT TO SEE OUT THE WINDOW? BAM! CURVED 16K SCREEN WITH 0.02ms LAG! UN-MATCHED PERFORMANCE.

nah. how about linear valve actuation tho senpai

>hand cranking crankshaft
>>
>>16630005
Why bother when we can go further on 100 pounds of gas than we can on 1000 pounds of fully charged battery
>>
>>16630535
>make car use less fuel for the same performance
>need smaller tank for the same range
>smaller tank means less fuel
>less fuel means less weight
>less weight means better acceleration, braking and handling

progressively smaller combustion engines until you have starter cranks being turned by teeny microbes which feed off petroleum
>>
>>16630112
It's an rc wankel.

why don't we just use midgets to turn the cam shaft?

back in my day we made our own microbes from spit and what we could find in the footwell. damn kids these days know nothing.
>>
>>16630137
How long does it take one of those things to reach 60rpm?
Throttle response must be a bitch.
>>
>>16629867

perfect idea honestly

this is something that ford would do.
>>
When will we transition to turbine engines???
>>
>>16632013
first memes first, some people still fall for electric cars.
>>
>>16629847
Will be interesting to see what happens when pneumatic valve trains become standard
