I was wondering if yall could help me out
I have a 1996 CB750 Nighthawk and the battery keeps draining overnight. It's got a brand new battery, and it charges well when I'm riding it.
I did the parasitic load test where you take the voltmeter from the battery to negative lead and I'm reading absolutely nothing
Any ideas?
what kind of load test is that?
mostly you disconnect a lead and run the meter in series (with the thing off) and check for current.
so one lead goes on the battery the other on the cable thats disconnected

Yeah that's what I'm doing.

allright
with the thing off and lead still disconnected do you read any ohms between the wires?
>>16612688
Absolutely nothing. All 0s

does it always happen? or intermittent? does the battery work? i mean if you charge it does it even hold a charge?
>>16612704
Well I just bought it I don't see why it wouldn't hold a charge

give it a try
leave it disconnected and check it in the morning

Former nighthawk owner here,
Are you actually reading low voltage on the battery when it sits overnight?
There could be a loose or dirty connection at the starter relay or motor. Also a loose ground can cause substantial voltage drop

Reading low voltage

What is the voltage?
Fyi a 12 volt batterry reading 12.0 volts at rest is 100% discharged, reading 12.6 or more volts at rest is fully charged.
Do you have a clamp meter that can read DC amps?
