What are your thoughts on spacers? I have a 15x8 +25mm wheel with 205/50's and I want the wheels to come out about 15mm more but kinda iffy on them.

Also seems like 15mm aren't sold as bolts ons and I feel like 20mm or 25mm are far too thick for wheel bearing life lol.

And where to get a decent quality full aluminum radiator for cheapish? Ebay?
>>
>>16610287
I personally think its for corny poor teenagers but seeing as we are in the Miata general and its a fairly cheap car that cheap corny teens tend to buy.

do whatever you want, but i personally will think they are hit regardless

I kind of thought about getting spacers because my new wheels are 15x6.5 +40 and I wanted a slightly more aggressive stance but in the end, I felt like taking care of my wheel bearings was more important.

that's my only real gripe with the RF miats, I don't think the flying buttresses XJS look suits it. Looks great from the front and sides but from pictures at least the back is a bit less bretty. I imagine the slight weight savings and rigidity gains would be neat too

hey faggots,

i am thinking of tracking my NA in the spring. do you guys happen to know if a hard top is an acceptable replacement for roll bars or do I 100% absolutely have to have roll bars no matter what?

Did a bunch of back-roads hooning in the middle of the night. Smoked the tires, drove fast through the twisties until the brakes started to soften, and took her up to 100 for the first time. Feels pretty good considering it's an NA6 and I've had to do a shitload of work just to get her in driving condition.

Only issue is that the frame is definitely flexing, to the point where I'm getting what feels like torque steer. Hopefully installing a roll bar will fix that.
>>
>>16613022

sat in pic related but i haven't driven one. but being able to raise/lower the roof at the touch of a button while the car is moving is the best.

i read that you can only operate the roof at up to 6 mph but no doubt there will be ways to override it as there is in my NC.
>>
>>16613022
don't be a dumb hipster. If you're gonna be tracking your car, you need a roll bar so when your dumb ass spins out and flips your car, your thick skull won't be crushed like en egg shell. The hardtop is NOT rigid in the slightest. It's a fiberglass shell with a glass window. That shit will cave in faster than Trump does to Bannon. Put a roll bar in your car, and leave the rest stock for all I care, I just don't want some dumb snowflake like you getting killed and ruining it for the rest of us.

Test drove both
ND is glorious but just too damn expensive for a miata. A very good buy in a couple years when the used market enters 20k zone and aftermarket matures a bit more. Very excited to see what the revival of mazdaspeed brings to the platform in 2020/21, because it is a VERY good platform.

RF is extremely sexy and you don't really feel the extra weight or notice the marginally slimmer cargo. However I don't know how someone above 6ft would get in it with the roof down, mind almost hits it and I'm under that. Huge blindspots also left me uneasy when merging, if you're someone like me who shoulder checks a lot you need to reprogram yourself to use the blindspot sensors on the mirrors. And thats a lot of trust to put into some finicky sensors in your brand new almost 40k dollar car. Overall too expensive and too gimmicky, a proper fastback would have probably solved all of its issues. I'll still keep my eye out on the aftermaket though, see how much weight savings one can achieve gutting the retractable innards and fabricating a proper fastback. That would be pretty neat.

If it's a 1.6 the only reason it's still pulling is the 4.30:1 diff, I'm currently driving a '91 with 280k on the body, but I swapped an '01 VVT motor and '03 6-speed.

Running those with the 1.6 4.30 diff and the thing feels amazing at lower speeds.

a 2013 Audi TT is more comparable to a Porsche Boxster than a Miata.

The (ND) Miata and TT dont have the same price point and are in two totally different classes.

>I would have thought stock for stock an s2000 would walk an ND?

no it wouldn't
times move on, nd outdones s2000 in pretty much every way, even body rigidity

in terms of speed they are about the same but nd has 160hp which show even more how outdated s2000 is if it needs 240hp to keep up

>Also half the price of the ND because used mind you.

and? s2000 is thrice the price of na or nb and yet it's not 3x times better
>>
>>16623272
I'm kind of saying they're not comparable cars. I also don't think the NA/NB are comparable to the s2000 in that respect, a turbo miata is comparably priced/aged to the s2000 so maybe that's more of a competitor (And the turbo miata will destroy an s2000)
>>
>>16623272
>nd outdones s2000 in pretty much every way
The ND will be par to par with an s2000 (considering both drivers are capable of shifting stick good) or even a tad slower but once you get up to speed the ND will surely die off because of the shorter gear ratio (thats how its able to be "fast" even tho it is 155hp). If you put shorter gears in the s2k the ND is done for. This is only comparing the cars in a straight line, no-one made a clear video yet about both of them battling at a track. Until then... we can only speculate.

Similar question, I want to put pic related on my NB, sized 15x8, with a 205/50R15 tire. I've got a stock suspension setup right now, but I'll probably go lower in the future.

Now, they're offered up to a 5'' backspace, which should be a 1'' positive offset if I get my maths right, or about 25mm. Now, most internet sources say a 38-45mm positive offset is ideal. Is this true? Does that mean I won't be able to fit these wheels?

5" backspacing on a 8" wide wheel is 13mm offset
The 8" wide 6UL is 36mm offset which is 5.92" backspacing

So they should be 6'' backspacing - which they don't offer. Too bad.

I mean, +25 offset will fit, you'll just have to do some stuff. On an NB, you'll have to roll the fenders pretty good, but that's about it. At least according to these guys:

that's exactly why i don't think i'd get an S2000 after my miata, it's too much of a sidestep and doesn't really offer anything more. yes if you have a 90hp NA then it's a step up but compared to a more recent miata (especially a tuned one) it's too similar.

How much faster/better is a nb8b to an na6 and how would the nb8b fare with a 4.3 rear end?
>>
>>16627280
Much faster, and a better base for mods because it doesn't have the NA6's weak drivetrain and lack of chassis bracing. The BP-Z3 is the sturdiest B-series engine Mazda ever made except the BP-4Wt in the MSM.

It's more expensive usually, but you have to balance it against the fact that the money buys you a newer car in better shape.
>>
>>16627277
Location? I'll take the ground control sleeves and possibly some control arms off your hands.
>>
Thoughts on putting a 1.8 into my NA6 with a 6 speed and a torsen 4.3? I'd be hoping to use an 01+ motor because they came with the six speed and they're the highest output. Any ideas if this is possible on the stock ECU/without rewiring the car? I feel like it would be a pretty fast street car.

>>16627444
First problem is that there's no such thing as a "torsen 4.3". Six-speed cars came with a 3.909, five-speeds had 4.100. A 3.636 was available on AUDM six-speeds. The 4.300 was found on the NA6's (much weaker) 6" differential, which was either open or viscous LSD, the latter being unsuited to performance use.

hey guys,

my pt cruiser is falling apart and i saw on car throttle that the miata is a really good car.

i saw this one on kijiji for only 8000$ should i go for it

thanks
>>
>>16633890
It was either burnt, or it's still in there. If you burnt that much oil, your car would run so badly you'd notice.

What's the interval on your oil changes?
Synth or dino?
What weight?
Did you warm the car up before draining the oil?
How long did you wait for it to drain?
Did you change the oil filter?
>>
>>16612104
Such an ugly piece of shit. And to think we could of had an Alfa instead.
>>
>>16633967
bro 8000$ for wheels wtf?
>>
>>16634568
About every 10,000km
Synthetic
5w-30 is the weight right? That gold bottle from castrol
Did a drive and left it sit for 2hrs to warm
Drained for 1hr
Didnt change oil filter in the last time tho

This is the first time seeing this much oil lost, but first time using the thin 5w30 also, might get myself a thicker oil next time. This mistake got me louder ticking noise too, hope it goes away.

After all that, as well as smacking the damn thing with various objects, did we get the cat off, then were able to cut through the last tiny bit and get the shitting thing off
Only took us ~7 hours to get that one damn bolt
Now i'm running straight pipe because i didn't have the hardware for the new cat to bolt on and it was 2 in the morning when we finished
Gonna put it on this afternoon and finally have a normal exhaust on this thing

Finally pulled my wheels off and brought them to the powder coater for a quote. It's going to be more expensive than I thought, so I might have to put it off until I get my bonus at work in a month or so.

>$35-$50 to strip them down to bare metal
>$100-$165 per wheel depending on the condition underneath the existing powder coat(they were powder coated last year, so I'm hoping everything is straight underneath it)
>$35 per center cap
>$165 to buy 5lb of powder because the guy doesn't have the color I want in stock

shift knob is stock with the 5 speed pattern on it so I have no idea what you are talking about.

As for the no stereo and no climate control it was removed for weight savings which I'm ok with. I bought this car purely for spirited driving and track/autox use.

Similar thing happened to me (except they stopped working when I turned on the A/C)

It's the 20a fuse they both run on blowing.

I fixed it by taking off everything on the steering wheel down to the wiper stalks themselves, and then putting it back together... I'm not kidding. Most likely a bad ground.

Yes it will the rule on clutches is - are you using a 1.6 FW? then use a 1.6 clutch.... 1.8 FW? use a 1.8 clutch.

Transmission is not a factor.

I think I have a fuel pump going bad in my 91.

It turns over, cranks well, but clearly not getting fuel. It was running well earlier in the day.

It will run fine then suddenly cut out and not restart unless I wait, I am assuming the waiting is causing the fuel system to re-pressurize, hence the fact it will run, but not for too long.

Just started today, 90,050 miles on the clock.

Any tips diagnosing this?
>>
>>16641231
You don't need a flywheel. A clutch kit should include bearings as well

>>
>>16643861
If you're sure it's that, get a fuel pressure gauge, check it's reading at the fuel rail. I have no idea what the number should be, so look it up.

Aside from that, check the wiring going to it and make sure everything is grounded properly and that the cables aren't frayed.

If you live somewhere with shitty gas, consider checking injectors and running them on a bench to see if there are any obstructions.

Replace fuel filter, which you already should have done at that mileage, and clean out the fuel system. I got mine cleaned with ultrasound at my mechanic for like $80

Aside from that, check out other shit like vacuum leaks that could cause the engine to cut out, especially at idle.

Took it to Bob's, they diagnosed the sound the old engine was making and thus got me with the "we'll waive the diagnostic fee if you do the repair with us". They also had good reviews and their mechanic seemed knowledgeable and said "oh yeah, we can definitely do this for you". Should have taken it to a specialty shop, don't make my mistake. Also would have been cheaper, they charged me about $4,200, when I could have gotten it done for much less and much sooner if I took it to Dynotronics in New Braunfels. Basically, take it somewhere that's done the swap before.
