I am considering buying a pre-2003 dual sport bike with 600 or 650 cc displacement and preferrably ABS in stock. The main purpose is to travel to Western Asia or maybe around Europe in summer. As I am limited in my assets (about USD 3500 and living in Russia) I was initially looking for BMW's F650GS but these have front fork axle lug issue (well, those that are suitable for my budget).
My question is: shall I save some more and buy newer model with ABS, or shall I buy older one and pray it does not break, or shall I consider something else? My main requirement is ABS availability as my driving skills are not yet perfect enough.

Hey guys!
gonna get my driving licence this summer. My grandfather (he passed away, sadly) was a real badass motocross racer in the 60s, and he had a Simson S51n for weekend riding. Turns out the old Simson is still sitting in his garage, it wasn't running since 2006. Any tips on getting it running again? I don't even know if it runs, it'll turn out after i graduate in July.
I was thinking about:
-a full-on reflush on the whole oil/fuel system
-I'm gonna replace the old tires immediately, don't wanna pass away on the first test run
-check trough the entire engine, take it apart and rebuild it

I'm studying as a mechanical engineer, so i welcome every help

This will help find them, http://www.bikefinds.com/trials-bikes-for-sale

There is a 4rt in there for 3500, it's a good bike, little heavy compared to new stuff but still a damn good bike.

thinking about getting a new 600cc r sportbike with my gf just mainly as an expensive fun toy for tracking and bombing around town on

we both have other bikes

problem is i'm tall and she's short, what's a good compromise for our frames?

we talked about litre bikes but can't really justify the price difference for a toy like that

as a ginuwine tallie wallie the only 600 I've ridden that's made me say "oh baby" was the 2013+ zx-6r, it's significantly roomier than most 600s and has a very tall seat height, it also got identified in a group test involving a grill as being the least confidence inspiring because of it.

Unless you're REALLY tall and she's really short though this shouldn't be a problem, something like a CBR600RR or a GSX-R600 will fit fine for both stock, can always go for like vortex rearsets if you want to adjust seating position though you probably won't get enough time inbetween track sessions to swap them around etc.

The main thing is, if you guys have significantly different weights the suspension settings are gonna be off without change too.

can do either, it's really up to you, how confident you feel etc. I know somebody who rides track very fast on a 600 who went down to a 300 on the road because he used it for cone and motogymkhana practice etc. I was quite confident and had dirtbike experience so I went straight to the 650 and I've had no problems.

I would suggest just not buying either new and if you buy a 300 or a 250 not spending too much on it.

The important thing is you'll learn the vital skills on either, it's more up to your attitude than the bike you ride, /dbt/ always talks about "getting bored" of bikes but they're also shitters who don't do anything interesting with the bikes in the first place.

Check the carburetor, look for manuals in the internet.
Check all wires, some may be rotten.
Check lights/all othe electrical components.
Of course, check if gears shift easily and correctly. Old bikes have this problem sometimes.

FHP is cool unless you're south of Orlando and Daytona. Up in the Panhandle I've drive past FHP on the side of I-10 doing 82 or so and they gave flatly zero fucks. You have to look suspicious, be a squid, or be at 85+ for them to care. Speeding in those early morning hours is quite likely to net you a fat ass ticket though. Night shift sucks as a cop, plus they don't want to make to call to clean you up when you hit a deer or black bear at 90+.

I like the other more, honestly. Something about the chunky tires (TKC80?) on that thing is awesome. Kind of like putting mud tires and a lift on a Miata; completely wrong yet fucking great.
