>What tools?
basic small tool box chest with imperial and metric
then find some cheaper used tools and a large chest later

Buy/borrow a haynes/chilton/manufacturer manual for the car you want to work on.
You'll need a set of sockets/ratchets/wrenches at the very least, may need metric ones depending on the car. Screw drivers/allen keys too. Those are the very basics.
Get other tools as you need them, will probably want a torque wrench, multimeter for electrics, some adhesives/zipties, side cutters/grabby claw things, jack/stands.

I just got an old fox body mustang towed to my house that I bought for dirt cheap. I plan on doing exactly what >>16579802 said and learning through a manual and YouTube. A few anons have been really helpful in pointing me in the right direction so even though they're all faggots they're all also pretty good guys at the same time.
Ask your dad/grandpa/uncle/relative if you can have old tools they arent using.
Make sure you buy FULL SETS. Dont buy a set if its only got like, 2, 5, 7, 9,10, 14, 16s
you will need the sizes it doesnt have, i fuckin bet.
Remember alot of stores will rent tools to you, like preassure washers and things like that. Often for free.
Good luck! Im in the same boat!
We should have a thread specifically for wrenching, advice, tips and tricks, from the most basic to the advanced, and from generic to incredibly specific. Just whatever random shit people have learned and want to share.
