Anyone have any luck finding a reasonably priced WRX/STI? Looking for a 2004-2007 WRX, but in New England they're all ricer taxed to hell. KBB puts an '04 WRX in good condition with ~120k miles (avg) at $4-5k. On CL all I can find are poorly modded and beat to fuck WRXs asking $8000+ firm. I understand they're highly sought after and owned by ignorant 16 year olds, but I'm not buying a beat on WRX with 150k+ miles for $9,000.

Forget about STIs, they run about $16,000+ for an '04 with high mileage and numerous problems.
>>
>>16576211
Pretty much no.
>>
>>16576211
the rice tax has forever inflated them, so not really.
>>
>>16576221
The only ones that are even moderately priced are wagons with 200k+ miles, and nobody wants the wagons. Even the 2008 models (which aren't as sought after because of how soft the suspension is) have only lost like 10% of their value somehow in 9 years.

I looked at one last night with 115 thousand miles and a misfire on cylinder two (09 STi hatch)
They wanted to let it go for 13,500 but I ended up knowing the sales manager (I'm a tech at a corvette specialist) and he told me he'd give me 11,500 for it financed. As it sits unless they fix that misfire I'm not paying for it and if they do I'm paying 10.5 because of recalls + accident history
Oh and insurance for me (22 yo) is 650+ a month on it so I can't really afford that.
Basically, if you want a cheap STi it's either going to be full cash private sale or a very beat up example.

>>16576211
you should probably look for something else
>>
>>16576211
I bought a '14 hatch in ISM. Put 20k down and paid the rest off. I'm stage II at 65k miles now. Subaru gave me a new shortblock at 54k because I spun a rod bearing.
>>
Sorry, forget it. Its called the ricer tax, you will not find an unmolested clean sti even a wrx for cheap, you gotta invest or repair the beaten ones.
>>
Just get lucky.

I paid $5400 for mine with 160k and a freshly rebuilt engine, new potenza S-04 pole positions on OZ rally wheels,, plus $1k worth of amps/subs I'll never use. It was the one decent deal out of the many 150k + $8000+ examples.

It's luck. Nothing else.

Paid 13k for my 04 sti with 80k. Was mostly stock other than a conservative tune. They're everywhere, but stop expecting to pay nothing for something.

I live in Ohio. A common mistake people make buying these is not realizing that mods do add value, and stock cars add even more value. You can never win.
>>
>>16577694
Texas, actually.
And the rates are weird, I requoted it with 10k annual mileage and it dropped to 500 even, and then 485 when I requoted it a third time without changing anything.

>>16577717
>was offered to me for 11.5
>can definitely get it for 10.5 easy
As I said, I know the sales manager and I also know they only paid 6k for it on trade in.
And yes, it's one of my dream cars (prefer evos but at this price it's too good to not look into)
If all else fails, pick it up for 10.5 cash and sell it private for 13-15k
>>
>>16577834
I had a C5 for 2 years. It was slow, too low, and extremely uncomfortable. Sold it and bought a wrx and modded the hell out of it. I have about 32k in my car right now.

I like being able to use all of my 400hp. My 0-60 is 3.1sec and I can take mine out in a foot of snow.

Matter of preference is all I guess

the delusional shit that comes out of subaru owners mouths is hilarious

Anon who was looking at the STi here
Vette buyers and STi buyers are generally interested in different things. Tastes may vary.
I like 4 doors and RWD/AWD
Some people like sleek coupes which the corvette is. Nothing wrong with that either

I'm selling my STI to buy a corvette. It is the next natural step. Like you said, nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>16576211
Shitty time for Craigslist right now op at least in New England. Expect around 6k for an alright one. They are fine with high mileage as long as the proper work has been done. Wait for spring and summer
>>
>>16577940
Kek I dunno about that. After I get an STi I'll be hunting for an Evo because dreamcars. I'd like an older corvette a bit later on down the road tho. I work at Corvette World in Dallas so I see them all day. Lovely cars.

You will learn young one. I also work in a corvette shop. After driving multiple it's just the next step, much more capable. I have a daily driver so no need for the practicality.
>>
>>16577984
We'll see about that. But honestly my dude I'm jealous.
Good luck and have fun out there anon

You too man. A tip for searching is to have a compression test done, and stay away from any sti that has over 90k and hasn't had timing done. Obvious sign of an owner that doesn't take good care of it.
>>
>>16577632
did you have any mods on it when that happened even a tune of any sort? Did the dealer give you a hard time?
>>
>>16577984
I honestly hate that corvettes are always the next logical step
>>
>>16578020
Dont hate it! Be happy that they're plentiful and easy to learn on. Plus they are affordable.
>>
>>16578018
I was stage 2 and converted everything back to stock and reflashed/restored the ECU using accessport. The closest dealer wanted me to sign a waiver stating I'd have to pay for labor if they found anything while pulling my engine. The dealership I bought from just told me to drop it off no questions asked so I had to ship my car 350miles
>>
>>16578032
not him, but i don't think a corvette would be as stable or give any confidence at taking a turn at higher speeds(never driven one). Assuming you actually enjoy the car as it should on some nice roads
>>
>>16578052
damn, sounds like everything went better than expected, how's the car running now? Plan on keeping it?
>>
>>16576211
if you want a good deal on a WRX/STI you have to buy them with lower miles
theres a ton with 60k - 80k miles around the $13k-$15k range which isnt as bad as buying a shitty one with 150k miles for $8000 - $10000
>>
>>16578020
I honestly hate that corvettes are literally garbage at everything they do.
>shit handling
>shit interior
>looks like shit, or design is stolen.
>pushrod engine
>shit engineering in every way.
>bodywork is shit
>somehow still around 3200lbs despite plastic body, plastic garbage interior.
>GM "engineering" (I.E. "hey look I found these blueprints in the back room from 1966, should be fine for this.")

They're just shit cars. It's like they said "how can we make something that has too much power, give it 4 wheels and call it a car?" and just went from there.

Subaru's understeer from the factory, without a proper wheel, tire, suspension and alignment they will continue to do so. But from a non factory standpoint the first thing I'm going to do is a coilovers conversion on the front and rear. Knowing the car is all the confidence you should need, if you don't feel confident you are driving above your skill level.
>>
>>16578087
found one of the anons that spam the GTR vs Corvette meme
>>
>>16578057
The close dealer had also seen my car and heard it in town multiple times. 3inch to dual N1 race with no cats. Cobb intake and a 50/50 bpv which I reverted to stock after the spin. I left my D2 coilovers on though.

I'm never going to get rid of it. I'm somewhere between stage 2 and 3. Injectors, intercooler, fuel pump, and pro tune. I'm looking at getting a built stage 3 block for her to start building for when my current block goes. I redline every day because my car is the only thing that makes me happy anymore. I can also handle the engine or tranny shitting out financially so I'm not worried about abusing internals.
>>
>>16576211
Just get a comparable car, chances are pretty good it's better built anyway.

Should be a pretty indicator of your taste in cars if you share it with "ignorant 16 year olds"
>>
>>16578116
You like 5.0s done you?
>>
>>16578111
How's the tranny held up? i hear subaru STI's are bulletproof
>>
>>16578124
I have the 5spd. I haven't had any issues so far. I've recently had some clutch chatter after sitting in traffic so I'm excited to get a new one.
