My father asked for advice. He is interested in the new Miata/MX5 as a fun car to drive around with the open deck. Is it a good choice or are there better alternatives? Standard or RF? He wants to buy a new car and not some old shit. Also not too much power. Thanks for any help

Hey I want to make a large automotive purchase. I'll consult my son so he can go online and get expert advice. I make good decisions.
If he can afford the RF I would get that just to have the option of a hardtop.

More like: Finally money he can spend as me and my siblings finished education and started working

Why not?
Miata RF Club Edition. Sure there are cars out there with better hp ratings, but the driving experience is superb unlike no other car on the market today.

youre asking the wrong place. If you were serious you'd ask on here > https://forum.miata.net/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=145
I'd try and convince him on a BMW roadster that's used. They should be fairly cheap, I'd imagine in the 5-12k range depending on condition.
In a Miata he's going to get weird looks.
i mean, it's hard to go wrong with the ND and the RF is better looking and more practical because hardtop
If I had the money, I'd own a Miata RF right now. It's gorgeous.

He has enough expendable money to buy miata rf why the hell should should he settle for a used bmw. If you had said a used boxster/cayman I would have been ok with that.
Honestly op if I was your dad I would do it. Or get a used boxster. But if your dad would really prefer new then go with the miata rf.

Some reviews actually describe the experience as more "planted" than the soft top
