Design is a preference thing.

My experience with the modern Mercedes (I have an S63 AMG, S63 AMG Coupe, and some older ones like the SLS and CLK63 Black, and have previously owned a lot of other ones) is that they are nicely built but not as reliable as they used to be. I think a lot of this comes from the complexity of the electronics they use. I've also noticed a lot more rattles. My GT-S had a speaker rattle that was easy to track down and fix, but my S63 had really weird intermittent one that turned out to be the heads up display. The infotainment system I find kind of clunky and over-designed. If you get an AMG be aware that some of them they over stiffen the suspension and it rides like a buckboard for no reason - but I doubt that would be a problem with a GLC. Their service is very good, although that is probably an area specific thing.

Yeah owning them out of warranty is a bit risky. Even the yearly service is expensive, but that's all luxury cars now and you have to do it at the dealership or else when you go to sell it you'll get less for it.

looks pretty cool for an suv, I wouldn't worry about the reliability to much. since you are looking at a 2016 model you probably have enough cash to buy a brandnew pristine car and properly maintain it.
