I want to build an engine from the block up, it will be my first time (I have family with experience that will help sometimes) . When I'm done I'll drop it in a chassis and having a running project. What should I do? Thinking about either and L28 for a 240Z or a 440 to put in a Duster
350 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY
IMPOSSIBLE TO FUCK UP
Can't go wrong with an engine you can build to 400hp for $1400
As much as I love Mopar they are the most expensive to build of the big three. That being said, go for the Mopar but maybe consider the 383 and 400 big blocks(both rev much faster than the 440) or a 340 small block

This
Even as a Chrysler fanboy I would recommend a SBC. There is so much cheap OEM/NOS and aftermarket stuff for Chevys it isn't funny. Old Chrysler stuff especially big blocks are very expensive to build

Also if you insist on a Chrysler engine I would go with a 360. The LA 360 was used from 1971-1992 in passenger cars and trucks and the Magnum 360 was used from 1993-2003 in trucks. They along with the 318 are probably the most common Chrysler engine out there. I can buy one from my local junkyard for around $150 if I pull it myself

Go 318 or 383, Very simple engines if you have to go mopar. If you come across a 400 go for it as well, they are very similar to the 383.
