I was driving to buf wild wings doing about 80 on the highway, nothing happens. Driving home doing 30, suddenly temp gauge is all the way up. Stop before I get home. Some coolant boiled over and sprayed in the engine bay. Let it cool, drive home at 10mph so I don't damage anything, at least. I replaced the thermostat, aired out and topped off the cooling system and my car no longer overheats. But now I've got a problem. My car reaches mid temp range just fine but my heat takes forever to get warm. I took about 20 mins of driving before the air actually got warm. It was about 35-40 out today, but my cars temp was just fine. Once I got home I noticed some light smoke coming from engine bay, it was coming out near my radiator cap and left radiator fan. My coolant reservoir was just about filled up all the way but no coolant is leaking from anywhere (when car is cold it just sits above max line) also my car still smells of burning coolant. Could it be the coolant that spilled out from the thermostat change? Please tell me my head gasket is fine.
>tl;dr my car is not leaking, not overheating, heat inside takes way too long to warm up, fans don't turn on at mid temperature, my coolant reservoir was completely filled once I got home from driving, and there was light smoke coming from radiator area

Blockage in the heater core?
>>16508261
sounds like a problem with your heater core. ouch. Don't they have to pull the dashboard to replace that?
>>16508302
probably, ill see if i can flush it before taking it to a mechanic
>>16508320
yes i beleive you're right. but what about my coolant issue?

Coolant goes through the heater core. A blockage would cause increased system pressure and it has to go somewhere. Get it fixed before you end up with a floorboard full of coolant.

Check the cooling system for combustion gasses and/or pressurize it and do a leak test. Head gasket could be fucked.
