I have 3 Saabs. I love them. I would not recommend a person get a Saab unless they live near a Saab specialist or will do all their own work.

Saabs are either rock solid or never ending nightmares.
For 5k you could get a 2005+ 9-5 Aero. The ones before 2005 can have sludge issues.
For the 9-3s you will want an 2003+ I think the 2.0T will be cheaper than the 2.8T.
You might be able to find a 2000-2002 viggen if you are lucky.
You could also look around for a 9000 aero, which is probably the best car Saab ever made.

Pick up an S40 2005-2009 with the 2.4i engine and snag one with the 5 speed manual.

I have a red 2005 2.4i with the 5 speed and the fucker is solid. I admit I have been a little sloppy with maintenance recently but overall the car has not let me down at all. Just a little warning about euro cars: the smallest/cometics will break first before mechanical.

My headliner sags a little, door lock trim went flying off, and the weather strip on the outside is going to crap. The rest of the car is fine however.

2012 R Design checking in. Really fun car, I have the Polestar tune so I am up to 325 at the crank. Parts are cheap, and mods are super easy to get and install. The seats are also super comfy, and the speaker system is banging. Im praising this car coming from a 2009 E63 AMG. The 2014+ S60s have paddles, however the T6 is the turbo/supercharged 4 banger rather than the I6.
