Alright /o/. Busrider questions here.
I'm 18, thinking about buying a vehicle. Only driven parents' car for about a year. Parents claim that buying a coupe is going to make my insurance skyrocket. Is this true? Is the insurance on a two-door really that difficult to deal with if you're an "inexperienced driver?"
Insurance pricing is based on two factors: self insurance (personal medical, collision, and comprehensive) all of which you can essentially take the bare minimum for if you don't give a shit about yourself or your car (good idea if you're driving a 30 year old Miata)
The second half is determined by potential for damage to others and the minimum liability required by law. This is why motorcycle insurance is so cheap. If you crash, the only person you're fucking up is yourself and the same is more or less true with the NA Miata in your picture. Characteristics like coupe do matter but they are just accessories to the overall situation. The difference is negligible/not worth fussing over if you're driving a shit box

I never uderstood the insurance issues people have on this board. Just buy the car under your dads name or something to keep the insurance low. Fucktards

Mostly myth. 2seaters = sports cars = crash more.

It's a meme. They count the amount of accidents for given car. A Porsche 944 has lower insurance class than a Golf or some Astra.
Miata NA is pretty much the cheapest car you can write insurance on. Apart from classic Mini I think
