Would a 1987 Hyundai Excel make a decent car for driving around a small Midwestern town?
I DD a 2016 Honda Fit to work in the city and I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma for show days. I'm just looking for a simple semi-classic regular car to drive on weekends.
There's no reason why it wouldn't be. Just perform basic maintenance and you'll be fine. This goes for just about any car.

I like the look of the car. Very simplistic.
Any specific cars you could recommend?

if you like that look, try to find a 1980's Chevy Nova. Literally a rebadged Toyota Corolla. Bonus points for the Twin cam model.
