Any interest in an old school audio thread? Had a good one going last week. Anyone have a nice vintage system or plans to make one?
>spend retarded amount of money on old alpine
>still running the original amp and speakers
A-at least it looks nice

Lookin good. Seems like good old school amps are cheaper than high end head units of a similar era

Thanks.
I really need to fix the leak in my trunk before I'd feel comfortable upgrading the rest of the system, but at least the factory amp still works.
My current install. Precision Power 2150M, 4200M, 2025AM, PEQ-114, FRX-332, BBE SM-4012, German made MB Quart mids and tweets, original JL Audio 8W6.

I have 2 7949's and my son is running a 7939 in his truck.
My son did his own install in his 94 F150 using all old school, period correct components.Alpine CDA-7939, Boston Acoustics 6.5's in the doors, Alpine 4x6's in the rear quarters, both run by a Kicker Impulse amp, original gold letter Kicker C-10's in 1 cubic foot sealed each, running off of a HIGHLY modified Alphasonik PAS-1100.
His install is pretty damned clean for a 15 year old first timer.
How many people know what this is?
Yup, I got one. It's one of my very moat prized car audio possessions.

What's the seek time for cds on yours like? Mine is complete trash at starting to play cds in certain situations. Sometimes it takes more than a minute for it to start playing and when it's too cold it doesn't even bother trying.
I'm pretty sure there's just a bunch of dust coating the laser but it would be interesting to hear from someone else.

The 7939 is solid as a rock. The 7949's, not so much. I need to send them to Ray Rayfield at Linear Power / TIPS in Pearl Mississippi for a freshening up. He's about the best tech in the country, no shit.
Does anyone know if Blaupunkt used the same connectors across their line in the late 80s early 90s? I'm looking at a head unit with no harness and can't find one specifically for it, but it seems the male pins mostly look the same on the other decks

I'll soon be swapping my PPI amps and processors for Linear Power.
My modded 5002 will run my LP6.5's, each 952IQ will run my Image Dynamics HLCD's, the 1502IQ will run my Blues BL10, and the 652 run my MB Quart rear fill. Don't know what Imma do with that little 302 yet.

thought JD was a friend of mine till I caught him in my car tryin' to steal my alpine
>>16484370
>Ray Rayfield
Interesting, I'll have to check him out. Mine definitely needs some repairs, there's also this atrocious coil whine when the display brightness isn't set to max.

You can get those pins off of eBay. They're not expensive, either.
I'm aiming to get an old Alpine CD player for my 240Z so it looks a little less out of place than a modern deck would.
I'll never be able to afford a 7909 but how are the lesser 7900 units, namely to 7904?
>>16484550
Forgot to add I'm open to other suggestions from the same era that may be cheaper/more available/etc.
>>16484550
Look for 7903, 7904, 7914, 7915, or 7803s for the Chicklets. And yes, they are sexy as hell.
Alpine units that have an 8 as the second number means it is a CD player that has built in power, a 9 as the second number denotes preamp only CD player.
A 5 as the first number means the unit has no tuner, a 7 as the first number means it does.

I didn't know any of that so thank you. That narrows things down a lot.
I also remember seeing in another thread that anything beginning in CDA is the shit. Is this true as a general rule or are there certain models to look out for?
>>16484774
Yes, the A in CDA stands for Ai-Net compatible, therefore you can always hook a changer up to them, or use the changer input as an Aux input with a $5 adapter. Being Ai-Net, you can also use an Alpine DSP with the CDA decks, or iPod interfaces, or HD Radio, or other shit, depends on the model.
CDM is older cd changer technology, you can still use them as an Aux input, but no other shit will hook up.
CDE decks are entry level bullshit.
