Very. It's also great to learn how to fix cars when shit goes wrong. Lots of how-to vids on YT.

I suggest doing an LS4 swap.

Tranny went out on my '98 SL2 at ~ 160k miles but it was rock solid up until that point.

Didn't GM try that out the factory with the W-body cars and they ate transmissions?
>>
>>16479099

I don't know. Sounds like a old wive's tale.
>>
>>16479048
I relate to this...
>>16479081
I daily a 99 SL1. Maintenance is easy, parts are cheap. My local junk yards are filled with them so I'm never at a loss for parts. Haven't had any major issues. My favorite aspect of owning the car is ramming shopping carts into it in front of my friends and watching them freak out.
The single cam engine isn't anything to write home about but you get good fuel economy. I probably get about 33 MPG combined.
I haven't driven a double cam so I wouldn't know.

>Didn't GM try that out the factory with the W-body cars and they ate transmissions?
yes, but they used a 4T65eHD automatic, the same transmission used in the supercharged 3800 W-bodies, which was known for blowing even then, so the V8 exacerbated the problem.

There is a FWD transmission that will bolt up though that can take the power. The LS4 uses a different transmission bolt pattern than any other LS engine so it can use the V6 transmissions. So ditching the automatic, you can switch to the GM F40 6 speed manual, specifically the variant from the 2006-2009 Pontiac G6 GTP. It's the same transmission Saab and Opel use with their 2.8L V6 turbos making over 320 HP. It can handle the LS4 without problem.

>>16479110
nope. 4T65eHD transmissions blowing up is a well-documented problem among W-body cars.

>want something DDable so better fuel economy is a plus
>zero interest in off roading
>want to be able to seat 5 people comfortably
>want to be able to get plywood and lumber from home depot/lowes
>may want to tow a track car in the distant future at most
>full size trucks are too big and overkill for my needs
I really want/like the Ridgeline, even if it's a CUCC TRUCC it seems like it's perfect for my needs.

Chevy Colorado.
>>
>>16479330
can't into plywood as easily and the interior and ride aren't as nice
i know it tows more but 7k lbs is way overkill, in all likelihood i would never tow, or if I did i'd make my racekarrrrs tow their spare tires and tools instead of towing the whole damn car
i'm seriously considering getting it after i graduate since it's not a "fun" car but it's a "do everything i would want to do" car
>>
>>16479288
Its /o/. if it can't lap the nur ring in at least under 8 minutes or generate at least 1 meme time on any track or is not available in manual for epic drift montages its not going to be well received here.

+boomers+rednecks+nogs associated with them.
