Can I legally sell, or give away a current valid license plate?

I have a stupid vanity US license plate, and had a few people offer me couple bucks for it.

I have 4 spare ones, had to re-register and they sent me replacement plates which got lost, so they send me another set, and then the first set arrived.

So like bars and shit that have plates on their walls, are all those expired/retired numbers, or are some valid?

anyway, some guy offered me like $80 for my plate. Can I legally sell it?

Legally who knows but you can sell it to him for sure. that plate goes to you though so any fuckery that happens with that plate will get pinned on you
